Heroes on NBC - Page 3

Pilot was a lot better than I'd thought it would be, definitely be checking it out again next week. I just hope it doesn't turn into a Big 4 net ripoff of The 4400, I cringed when the voiceover did the saving the world bit.

I haven't watched the 4400 so I guess I'm missing out...I hear great things about it.

As far as Heroes goes, I had very high expectations given all the preseason hype, and for the most part they didn't disappoint.

Likes:

Hiro...the guy cracks me up...too bad he couldn't take his buddy with him, they made a good comedy team. Doubtful he is going to be fluent enough in English or any of the others in Japanese to have the same kind of back and forth dialogue. Shame...but he's my favorite character so far.

The mystery that still surrounds little Ms Internet Stripper. What's up with the mirrors? Alternate personalities? The image on the mirror had blood on her hands, she didn't. Weird.

The brothers - It should be interesting to see this play out. Man-Nurse finally thought he had some special gift, and it turns out to be his brothers'. So what's *his* gift? Seeing the future in dreams? What's the difference between him and druggie painter boy?

Overall production quality seems very good, you can tell they really want this show to make it.

Dislikes:

Not sure about little ms indestructible...she creeps me out a bit. But that might be a good thing. The hand in the garbage disposal was nasty...she seems to get a strange pleasure from hurting herself. Or does she feel pain? not sure.

Indian scientist/conspiracy - This has been done to death so many times they are really going to have to impress me with this.

I'm signed up for the season, we'll see where this takes us.

Prepare for this series to be canned after a half of a season... why? Because I enjoyed it. Over the last few years any show I've enjoyed gets canned... i.e. Threshold, Surface, etc..

It's almost too painful to start watching these things any more because you can invest a fair amount of time only to have clueless studios yank them from under your feet

Same here. I loved it. And the humor intermixed was awesome. Best line for me was <<Japanese dude to his friend who is being dragged back to his seat by his boss>> "Use the death grip!".

I found it extremely compelling. Can't wait for the season.

Made me think of Jean Grey's transformation into the Phoenix.

I think Nurse-Man and Dope-Dude are only related because they like the same woman.

We've seen Wolverine do this, but that insinkerator-incident was just nasty .

I will toss in my hopes for this as well, not by any means an original but held my interest none the less, which is very hard to do for me with tv....looked great and I really liked the pace.......

I am a huge fan of Unbreakable(the film) and I think this certainly played off someof the elements in that film.....

The 4400 comparsion works but that show lost me after Season 1 so I am hoping this plays out well...

Too bad for you; should have stuck with it.... it's gotten stronger each season and has been renewed for another.

What is this 4400? When and where was it aired? I've never heard of it until this thread.

The older brother, running for Congress, is Natalie Maines' (lead singer of the Dixie Chicks) husband.

I, too, am wondering if the little brother actually has any powers.

Other than the cheerleader's father and the mob, are there any other bad guys in this show? Are there going to be good heroes and bad heroes? The dope head painter wants to be good. Ali Larter's character could be a bad character, but she alter ego tore a couple of members of the mob in halves. Good or bad? I guess we have to tune in to find out more.

I'm glad I didn't have ribs for dinner. Funny that her biggest concern is that her "ability" will hurt her popularity at school.

I wonder if her superhero costume will be a cheerleader outfit.

From some reviews I've read, it implied that some of the "Heroes" will not use they powers for good. Looks like Ali Larter's character could fall into the bad category, (but she was protecting herself) and I think if younger brother does have some powers, the older brothers crosses to the dark side after losing the election, setting up a face-off between the two.
As for the show, I enjoyed it. Hopefully it sticks around.

It's on the USA network, a summertime series. It started as a miniseries, but was picked up for a full season based on strength of ratings. I think it just finished its third season. Pick up the DVD sets! If you think you'll like Heroes, you'll likely enjoy The 4400 as well. Also has one of the "catchiest" theme songs in TV history. Hard to believe you haven't heard of it at all.

I think an even greater twist would be big brother in an effort to not use his powers at all makes little brother turn to the bad side. From the pilot we see how much goodness the little brothers character tries to represent but I think him going bad because he's fed up with always trying to help others is possible. Thats just a guess and I think would be interesting to see.

I never got into The 4400 of the few episodes I seen. From what I could tell it was more along the lines of people with abilities after being abducted or something and not a comic-bookish superhero feel which is what I think Heros is going with. It think Heroes has great potential and I look at it as spiderman meets unbreakable meets the X-men.

Oh and Ali Larter is hot by the way anyone have some screen shots of her on the bed?

My one complaint was the cheerleader's clothing after she jumped and stood up you could see all the padding under her uniform. I know from an interview she does a lot of her own stunts so props to her as she's pretty hot too.

This show was advertised allot where I live. It did live up to its expectations, I think.

I loved it for the fact that the whole idea was very original. The music was fantastic! (Music in shows this season appears to be more cerebral.)

The only thing I would say is a problem is the fact that the scenes chabged too frequently and too fast. I think maybe they wanted to get all the characters out there in the first episode. It just seems a little ruched to me.

All in all, this show rocks! I just hope there are enough "geeks" out here to keep this show going.
Anyone know if the pilot will be replayed? I missed the first one. I saw it in the guide but it didnt register... duh...

They have not introduced all of the heroes just yet. It did not feel rushed to me. This was pure entertainment with a some thought. It is not a "check your brain at the door" show, but it's not Studio 60 or The Sopranos either. I think NBC hit the nail on the head with that pilot and believe this is the show to watch.
I found it good enough to warrant watching more. They are obviously taking their time to develop the characters and plotlines slowly, to keep some sense of suspense and mystery. This will likely be a mixed blessing - those who are impatient to know everything NOW (like many Lost critics) will quickly lose interest. And those of us who enjoy the suspense (if well done) will most likely get crushed again by an impatient network expecting immediate thru-the-roof ratings. When those ratings are slow to build - out comes the axe (see Invasion, etc) and the loyal among us will be disappointed once again after investing the time and not seeing the payoff.
This show could go either way for me. The X-Men parallel was blunt to say the least... which isn't necessarily a good or bad thing.

I doubt the Japanese guy will offer much comic relief anymore, which would be a shame because he was the brightest part of the episode. (Well, that and some of Ali Larter's scenes. ) The "twists" at the end were pretty obvious, but I think that was the right decision in terms of what to do with those characters.

I'll be keeping this in the DVR queue.

I don't think this show will get the axe as there are enough of us geeks waiting for a good comic book type TV show. I can't see how people could compaire shows like invasion as an example of a decent show getting booted. The thing is ABC, CBS, and NBC all came out last season with basically the same show Invasion, surface, threshold. Hereos on the other hand doesn't have the same problem unless you want to say smallville or The 4400 are the same show. I don't think it is and has enough of a story line to keep people interested. Lets hope the writers don't screw this one up in an attempt to draw in viewers that would otherwise not be interested.

I wanted to add if anyone else didn't catch it that Hiro's friend clicked off Ali Larters porn site when Hiro ran up to him in the office. Kinda cool how there trying to tie in everyone.

It was the number one show of the night.

Me likey, it was good. But I'm a big Ali Larter and Hayden Panettiere fan.

I posted in the other thread, but I guess this one was more popular...I enjoyed it but it really is similar to a lot of popular shows...definitely going to watch it again...

You saying Invasion, Surface and Threshold were basically the same show is like saying Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now and Full Metal Jacket are basically the same movie, just because they were all wartime movies. I have to at such generalization.

Maybe Friends and Everybody Loves Raymond are basically the same show - afterall they both are sitcoms.
Isn't it ironic to criticize these for being "the same show" (and I don't agree that they are) when recent TV seasons have given us multiple CSI and Law & Order series?
Ill be watching this season. I enjoyed the pilot and I agree, the Japanese guy and his friend were the funniest part of the episode. "Use the death grip!"

Oh---you mean how are their powers different (?). They are somewhat similiar....really hard to say. Maybe they'll have that Scott & Logan thing over the female love-interest. *shrugs*

Yeah, sorry, that was my question. They can apparently both see the future...although I guess Man Nurse can see only HIS future and he's conscious of it. Druggie boy seems to see a bit more globally, but he does it unconsciously (he doesn't remember painting them). Does his ability work because of or in spite of his heroin addiction?

So far it's my favorite new series out there. Jericho not so good and Studio 60 could get boring are the other two new series i'm comparing to. This has definitely been one of the better premiers since Lost (the gold standard in premiers.)
