Hm, this "surprise" doesn't mean another HD player model, does it (like the D2)? Or just a nice "extra bonus" if someone preorders an A2?

I have two friends that were blown away by my XA1, so not sure whether to recommend the XA1, or have them wait for the A2?

Signed, very happy VE customer...

It's my fault..... I'll admit it! I jinxed it
Five minutes before turning on the computer and reading the delay news, I just said to my wife that if it all works our right... I'll have the A2 for the four day Thanksgiving weekend. And to add insult to injury... I just got a email from deepdiscountDVD that my on order HD-DVD's (Forbidden Planet, Robin Hood, House of Wax- in addition to the five HD-DVD's already sitting on my shelf) shipped out today..... waaaaaaaaaaa

^^ All good thing come to those who wait.

Mark99, thanks for your kind words.

When you mean the list do you mean the preorder list or is it another list. I preordered on Saturday. Does that mean I am on the list. Thanks

Wow Robert, hope your surprise email softens this blow. I find it amazing that this kind of problem shows up 2 weeks after the initial ship projection, especially at such a crucial time for the format! Ok, ONE MORE MONTH TOSHIBA! We are all waiting!

Cliff, your on the VIP list.

eapleitez, I hear you man, I'm going to do my very best to surprise everyone and keep the very strong momentum HD DVD started and earned.

Looking foward to hearing from you tommorow.

This is very disappointing news. I pre-ordered the HD A2 from V.E. in October, purchased a 1080p lcd hdtv, and started buying HD DVDs. I was really hoping to have the new player in by Thanksgiving. Now I have all of these useless HD discs for at least another month. Hopefully, this player is worth the wait.

Remember this is a one month delay for one model only.

I agree with what your saying Robert. Believe me I am a big supporter of HD DVD. Thats why I'm disappointed with the delay at this time. I still have no doubt about the success of the format, it's just going to take a little longer, thats all.

What I really hate is giving the BR supporters anything to gloat about! Like a few that have already posted in this thread.

Looking forward to hearing from you tomorrow on the surprise. I pre ordered a couple weeks ago.

Hi Robert,

Any chance the delay is due to the making of A2 SD part to all-region, like the European E1 ??? If yes, I don't mind to wait another month !!!
The European are all-region SD? I never heard that one before.
Sorry to hear about the A-2 slipping a month. Lotsa disappointed AVS'ers around here. I was also very anxious for it's release - even though I'm waiting for the XA2. Good to know that so far that date hasn't slipped. Like others - I have lots of HD-DVD's (w/ Kong and Forbidden Planet on the way) but currently no HD-DVD player! Well - I'll have plenty to watch when the machine does arrive (after Christmas).

hi robert, what must I do to be "in the list" ? (I preordered in Oct.)

btw I'm not that disturbed by the delay. When it's ready it will be released. In the video processor side delay by weeks is common, by months is the norm, and it can happen by a year. (e.g. dragonfly)

he's talking abt the "possibility" to be made region free, since there is some hint in the Tosh europe interviews.

ac388: I personally think the US players will never be true "region free" even if you crack the code, because it has no PAL hardware. There are a lot of US dvd players that are cracked region free but still cannot do PAL. (e.g. panny rp91). Only the Europe models have the *potential* to be made truly region free because by default it has to support R2 NTSC japan and R2 PAL europe.

my parents and inlaws are in town visiting until 11/30 so if anyone in the near vicinity is really "jonzeing" to open their sealed HD DVDs, I will be happy to lend my A1 out for a couple of days here and there.... PM if interested.

...of course you will have to sign your soul to me...

Oh, Robert you are turning into such a tease. First the hint on something for the XA2 and now this. I am on the disappointed list having 46.5 hours in on my new FHD1, my HD DVD stack, and one of each player on order with you. Be watching the email now. Enjoy and thanks for supporting us and keeping us informed.

Are you referring to all the children that participate in this "war"?

The A2 delay is disappointing, since I just ordered one today. But I also bought the Panasonic BD player which I'll have on Friday. So I guess I'm a BD and HDDVD supporter. And while I'm waiting for the A2, I'll have plenty of BD movies to watch.

Same here except that I just got a projector to mate with pre-ordered HD-A2, already collected many HD-DVDs in great anticipation of taking a hi-def splash; friends are flying for the Thanksgiving......

I'd say the best option for those impatient is to get an A1 or XA1. I've had mine for 6 months now and I could not be happier with it....the 60 sec or so load times are not a big deal for me. So if you can live with the load times you'll be glad. Even after getting the Sammy, 80% of the time I'm watching the XA1.

FWIW, I heard the A2 like the 360 drive is a solid product. Unfortunately, HD DVD looks like will be without a player for the holidays.....
Does it look like the HD-Xa2 will be delayed as well?

Hmmmmmmm......................
Looks like Robert is giving us hints....................
I have the A2 and the XA2 both on order......................and, while I moved to S.C. a year ago, I used to live in N.J., so I'm kind like a neighbor.........

Robert

Just got another e-mail that Forbidden Planet Ultimate Collector's Edition shipped today (in addition to Casablanca and King Kong).
Anyone know if you can see anything by holding an HD DVD up to a strong light?

Patience folks; we'll get our players.
Life's too short to get in a tizzy about this.

We are structuring this deal for all of our HD-A2 advance order customers as a special thank you for your order and in retribution for the delay. If you're on the list your golden.

Robert-

If I preorder the A2 and decide to upgrade to the XA2 before the A2 ships, could I do that without a problem? I'm still picking out a plasma and if I can get 1080p24 jutter free on a 5070 Pioneer, I'll go with the XA2.

Thanks,
Chris
