What is the advantage of putting the 1080p signal from the XA2 into a scaler? I thought scalers were suppose to make a better 1080p picture out of a 1080i signal?

Well, I have never heard an A/B comparison.
But I have read posts from members who have and they say there is a big difference.
Besides, if you shop around a bit, the difference in price between the A2 and XA2 is far from $500.

I'm just asking. I do agree with the other comment that whatever the difference in price is it might be better spent towards a new receiver.

I am currently running my A2 (thanks Robert!) audio over optical into my Onkyo 602. However, there seems to be a noticeable "echo" over the center channel and my receiver does not seem to be registering DD.

Should i have the A2 set to bitstream or PCM? Also, what should I have my receiver setting on to get DD?

I believe it is correct to say the majority feel there is a discernible difference with a high-end audio system and good acoustics. For the many who have middling to low end systems and/or lousy room acoustics, the difference is probably minimal.

Anyone have any details about the 4 year warranty offered by VE? What would an A2 owner have to do if something went wrong with the unit? Things like that, etc.....

Some of us are waiting for receiver upgrades. Going analog until then(with good speakers, receiver, separates etc.),especially if one has a display (FDH1) capable of utilizing the 1080/24 possiblity of the XA-2 makes it a viable option while waiting(and it may be a wait). There is a a pronounced difference in optical vs. the analog/hdmi capabilities in my configuration and for some of us sound is as important a variable as video.

just to be sure, isthere is no difference in sound quality between 5.1/7.1 analog out and HDMI out for PCM, DD+ DTS-HD TRUE HD etc....

Well, I have some pretty nice speakers. 3805 receiver with an Outlaw 770 amp. I have spent a lot of time and money on accoustics for my dedicated room so for me it is worth the upgrade for the sound options the XA2 will give me.
If I just had a basic set-up in my living room then yes, the A2 thru optical would be enough.

I don't know that anyone can give a concrete answer to that question.

It is So So So Dependent on the Sound Processor - that answers are
all over the MAP.

Try both in your environment and make your own decision.

I dont know this for a fact but the DACs in these players are probably not all that great compared to ones in a nice reciever/processor.

Well today is the day that Robert is suppose to get in the BIG shipment that will fulfill the rest of his orders. I know they must be busy so I'll ask here instead of calling them. Does anyone know if it came in and if they are going out today? I never got any kind of e-mail from them. Also is he using FedEx home delivery? I hope so because that will mean that I'll have it for this weekend

Which is more ideal?

XA2 HDMI straight to TV and analog 5.1 into receiver, video and audio seperated with video being digital and audio analog.

or

XA2 HDMI into a Receiver and then HDMI from Receiver to TV, video and audio together pure digital.

In other words, is it better to have the HDMI go straight into the TV therefore avoiding any potential video problems inside the Receiver but having to live with analog 5.1 or go all digital with HDMI into a capable Receiver but having to deal with the video passing thru the Receiver.

How does the warranty work? Was there supposed to be a separate form packed with the box? Would we just call VE since thats who I bought mine from to get it taken care of under the 4yr warranty plan?

Since I didn't see any extra paper for an extended warranty, I wasn't sure how it worked.

AFAIK no worries going through the receiver - it's not processing anything on the video side, just passing through the digital signal, should be a lossless transmission. The main question I'd think is which DACs are better, the built-in HD units or the ones in your receiver, listen to both and see...

I was just wondering, if there has been shipments of these things then why does it still say it has not be realeased on amazon? I mean i am not planning on buying an A2, I am perfectly happy with my A1 for the time being, however I am just wondering because amazon does a lot of volume and if we want to see more titles in 2007, the I think we need as many players out on the street as possible.
