This can be endless - you keep adding new recordings while trying to watch the old ones.

A "migration strategy" that I am currently using is to add a new (2nd) DVR while keeping the old one attached. Put all new recordings on the old one and work off the recordings on the old one.

All boxes on the list, whether they are MDN (no C, SA, no Samsung, old Moterola's) or ODN, (SA-C-boxes/Ciscos, Samsungs, and new Motorolas) will get the new guide upgrade on the dates indicated for the Syracuse, New York, and Charlotte, North Carolina areas. Nation-wide roll-out of the new guide is expected by or before the end of the year.

Why am I not really looking forward to this change tomorrow night?!? Seems with all new tech these days updates seem to add features no one uses and break features that are essential. I can't wait until we can Tweet what show we're watching from the EPG! (j/k)

I agree... the question came up from fhall1 because the 8300HD wasn't specifically listed. However, it is not likely that the most highly evolved MDN model would not get the upgrade when all of the other MDN models listed will.

I do not know anyone at all here in Charlotte with any form of MDN box to be able see the results of the MDN version of the upgrade... but I will see first-hand (and be able to report on) the ODN update on several different box models/vintages.

I second that... especially since 5.1.0_4 that we have here has not been as troublesome as 5.1.0_6 has been for other locations. As I said the other day... I'm hoping for more steps forward than backwards.

My cousin's got an SA-8300HD MDN box with E-SATA here in Wisconsin. An SA-8300HD for the past 6 years. I hope the new guide does not break MDN's external drive capabilities! I have always preferred MDN over ODN for speed. If the MDN boxes had bigger hard drives, (and could do multi-room) they would be better than ODN. For now on ODN just about everyone is on 5.1.04-5.1.07. It is reported that ODN 5.1.4 is stable, (which we rolled back to from 5.1.6. ODN 5.1.06 has problems. ODN 5.1.07 is a push-fix for 5.1.06.

The guide upgrade for ODN will be 5.2.xx I don't have an MDN version number for the new guide.

Some areas in Ohio are still on ODN 4.1.07

I really want to hear how the new guide works on the legacy boxes! We will probably get the new guide this fall.

It showed 37% and after reboot it showed 6%??? Today it was about 35% and I taped the NASCAR race. It then went to 73%, and DELETED about 15 of my shows since it thought it was full! AND, it still shows 73% even after deleting all those shows.

Tomorrow it's back to TW to try and get another 8300HD, so I can at least use my 1TB external drive, and have an accurate % of use. I have a feeling satellite TV is not far away for me.

UPDATE - Got an 8300HD and my external drive is working again! Does anyone know how long it takes for the Caller ID prompt to start working for the phone? It shows up in Settings and the prompt is set to On. Called TW, and they said everything is set up correctly. It's been about 3 hours so far.

Caller ID on TV will take up to 24 hours to activate, but might show up in about 6. It just depends on where your box was activated in the new install query. You will need up to 72 hours and a My Services Account for Remote DVR Manager to start working. Is your MDN box faster?

Well, today is the day (EST) for Syracuse to get ODN v5.2 (aka the black guide). Might be a complaint or two from those who do not like "change", but I think it will be a positive transition, considering that TWC hired a new dev team to overhaul Navigator.
Syracuse's Navigator section only shows the black guide. I am sure Charlotte has those pages as well.

Yup,

Syracuse today and Charlotte tomorrow. What a time for the forum to be down tomorrow morning! Of course, it's not like they planned it this way or anything. The download will probably come sometime after 2am in those regions.

I think you will like the new forum, and the guys at both AVS and Huddler did a great job in creating this new site.

This was in the making for at least a year or so, due to the size of the site and there was custom code that needed to be done. The founder said this week was when AVS was going to make this transition.

It finally showed up after about 8 hours. The MDN box is somewhat faster.

I was expecting this tonight overnight, but got it last night!

Permanent Guide Filter!

http://splicd.com/pYzOQFpGPYE/2/18

First impressions:

Guide and box response is much snappier! There is still noticeable Guide Lag when scrolling, but not as bad as before. It is quicker to catch up. Overall performance is snappier such as Navigating the menus and utilizing options.

Noticed the diagnostic menu is gone for checking versions so I have no idea what the release version is. I can still get to the service menu pressing up after icon flashes, but pressing down does nothing.

Color scheme is OK, but I think the blue popped a little more. Disappointed it is not a 16x9 format GUI, still 4:3 pillar box. The black is fine, maybe I have to give it an adjustment period. Hopefully we will see it in 16x9 sooner than later.

DVR List still mashed and cut off. This really needs to be changed. They need to put the list along the bottom. If I get some time (I have 16 hour shifts this week) I want to do a mock up of how the list can utilize the space without cutting off names.

All in all from first look, not much has changed other than appearance and Guide Filter (the average sub is only going to notice the color I'm betting). I'm sure much was addressed "under the hood" and that's a good thing. I do like the A button for finding VOD which was buried within our crap line up here. Overall, this update was worth it simply to have the Guide Filter - big plus on that.

The version I have is reporting as 5.2.0.0.7. I did the hold select and then press up. then i went to the second menu down (something like mgr diag) and this gave me 39 pages of diag and it was on one of those pages. I was really hoping the guide would be 16:9 but at least i can filter hd only for the family.

Ok, it's there buried on Page 12 of 43 under Mfg. Diagnostics. It was easier to just use the down arrow and see it, but now that I know where to look at least I can keep tabs on it.

Another note while scrolling the Guide and the Diag Menu. The black guide is not looking well at all. The logos are washed out and "bleeding" red, almost like bad convergence on an old CRT projection set. The blue looked much tighter and clean. That said, the Guide Filter makes up for the cosmetic issue, but the double vision lettering is tweaking my eyes. I may try a reboot to ensure that its not a fluke from the update.

i also noticed that to get to the device settings you have to go to the menu and then go to the help topics. I picked remote control and it went to the normal page that has the device settings menu. Seems strange that it is set up that way.

Does the discrete [Settings] button still work on the remote?

I guess ODN v5.2.0_7 has made it to Syracuse, but not much has changed since v5.1, other than that it is made with new developers. Future versions should get better, since TWC has a new dev team that is committed to fixing these bugs.

Update did not happen in Charlotte.

That is because TWC delayed the update in Charlotte. It will happen soon.

OK....I have the "new" guide....I notice no visual improvement, no more data displayed, just different colors. SA 8300HD

Also noticed the following....we watched three recorded shows last night. Two one hour shows, one a half-hour. All three of them at some point into the viewing had the screen go black....then the TV went blue (almost like it lost a signal?) then the program returned with the status bar at the bottom indicating it was in "pause" mode. I hit play and the program continued normally.

This happened once on the first show (hour), twice on the second show (hour) and once on the third show (1/2 hour). I guess it's more of an annoyance than a killer problem since you can continue watching the show - but this never happened before the new giude update.

Guide Filter and speed enhancements are very noticable changes on the 8742's! I do agree they really need to get it to a 16x9 format on boxes that support it as well as revamp the DVR list section to make it functional. Hopefully we see ongoing updates and patches.

Is the Raleigh/Fayetteville area on the list?

Not having a filter is sooooooo 2010.

Also, why do I have to go to HELP to see the DVR content? Did that get changed?

I know I used fewer words, but I knew that and was just very quickly reporting amidst the combined frustrations of figuring out the new forum and trying to get to get four dogs walked and getting to work. smile.gif

Everybody is on the list... "when?" is another question entirely.

Similar to the "Settings" question earlier... does the "List" button not work for you?
