I have my 8300HD hooked up to a remote power switch. Works perfect for rebooting. My hold select- flashing mailbox- hold down still works for the hidden screens.. holding up does nothing.

What other hidden key press combos is there to try?

The Select/Up key sequence for hardware diagnostics has always been available on the Samsung boxes and was recently added (with v5.1, believe) for the ODN SA & Cisco boxes, which is what the recent conversations have been about. For what works or does not work for MDN boxes like your 8300HD, one of the MDN-heads will have to chime in.

Select/Up works on Cisco with 5.0 as well.

Now if it is the box.. I really don't understand how it can be because I'm able to view 3d on channel 1000 but if it is which one of these boxes should I get ?

I currently have the Explorer 8300HD DVR box which has been a work horse with no problems.

Which box should I get ?

It's confusing..if I get the
Time Warner Cable 3D Pass, including ESPN 3D HDDVR box will I still be able to view
Movies on Demand, Free On Demand or Special Events in 3D ?

For those areas affected, channel 484 has never been operational and this includes nyc and hudson valley, and it has been this way from the start of the olympics. When I attempt to tune in, my screen blanks out, and after a few seconds, it times out with the following screen -

or with INFO pressed -

I called a support escalation number on early Sunday morning, and in a follow-up call, later in the day, the tech indicated that the problem was handed off to local engineering, who acknowledged that they too could not access the program material.

I caught my Cisco 8742 skipping its scheduled recording of the Olympics last night. I checked earlier in the day, and it showed up in the Scheduled Recordings, but, for some reason, it did not record come 8 PM. It is the top priority Series, and there were no conflicts. I missed about 5 minutes of the beginning, so not too horrible, but what if I had been out to dinner? Anyway, this is my first experience with missing a recording since I came back to Navigator. Hopefully, this will not become a common occurrence.

Anyone seen this problem:

Watching a previously recorded show (Political Animal) on DVR. Just before 9 pm I get message that a recording is about to start.............Press A, I do. Then I get another message that a different recording is about to start.......Press A, I do that too. Next, at 9 PM the picture switches to Bunheads (one of the two programs being recorded) and drops Political Animal. I go back to DVR List and select Political Animal again, expecting to being able to resume from where it got dropped - but NO, it didn't remember and I have to FF all the way to where it was dropped.

I have whole house, 2 8742s, running ODN 5.2.09. I'm not sure which box (bed room or family room) was recording program (unfortunately ODN doesn't tell you which box has what recording). I have seen this problem once or twice before - didn't have the problem before I went to Multi-Room with the SA8300HD.

Is this one of those "Welcome to the World of ODN" things? confused.gif

No. To view Movies on Demand, Free On Demand or Special Events in 3D, you must have one of the following compatible set-top boxes:

•Motorola: DCH 3200, DCX 3200,DCX 3200-M P1/P2, DCX3400, DCX3400-M

To view Time Warner Cable 3D Pass, including ESPN 3D, you must have one of the following compatible set-top boxes:

•Motorola: 3200 MOCA HD, 3510 MOCA HDDVR
•Samsung: 3260 HD, 3262 MOCA HD, 3362 MOCA HD, 3270 HDDVR, 3272 MOCA HDDVR

Add TWC3DTV [Channel 484] to the second list -

I just swapped out my SA-8300HDC for a 8640HDC and now I am good to go.
The 8300 supports up to MPEG-2
The 8640 supports up to MPEG-4

If the 3D Olympic feed is an MPEG-4 stream, we would expect the 8300 to fail, or not qualify for access to the SDV stream, even though it is 3D capable.

Yeah, any time I'm watching something recorded and 2 more recordings begin, it drops me out of the show I'm watching into one of the new recordings. And, as you describe, you can't just resume the show you were watching. Very annoying.

Any box from the second, more restrictive list will support all of TWC's 3D programming.

I find that happens when you're on a channel not being recorded when the two recordings start.

Easy solution: tune to one of the live TV channels about to be recorded first, then start your playback. You'll find you don't get interrupted from your playback when the recordings start.

Thanks, I'll try that the next time I get the two warnings.

HOWEVER, IT APPEARS TO BE A BUG, IF OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING IT TOO! What is your DVR/Software?

That's not always possible if you have a busy night of recording.

It wouldn't be quite so bad if you could just resume the interrupted show. So really, there's two bugs: 1) it shouldn't interrupt the recorded show you're watching, and 2) when it does, it should remember where the show was interrupted.

DCX3400-M from Motorola is MPEG-4 compatible. One user in TWC San Diego proper got a DCX3400-M and they are handing these out with SA cablecards for those in the SA part of San Diego. DCX-M boxes have a 500 GB HDD and have a stretched UI like the Samsung boxes. ODN v5.2 is coming to the western half of TWC after the Olympics. TWC also plans on deploying TV made easy to the rest of the TWC footprint. This is the channel realignment where HD channels are in the 1000's. This is similar to Buffalo, Carolina's and Milwaukee.

I wish I could get an answer as to why it's taking our division so long to get a logical channel alignment.

You may want to check out the Signature Home thread for more info about Whole Home. Navigator has some impact on how the boxes interact, but if you have any installation or usage questions you will find people there who have the service as part of their package.

We've got NASA-TV here in the Milwaukee area, but it is on a premium tier. Surprised they can do that, NASA-TV is taxpayer funded. That's like putting Public TV on a premium tier.

TWC Charlotte does not officially carry NASA TV, but the county gov't channel uses it as filler when they are not running local programming, so we see it part-time, in SD. I have found that NASA TVs streaming options are much more convenient and higher quality.

For HD streaming, you might want to check out http://www.ustream.tv/nasahdtv.

There are also more streaming options at http://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/index.html.

If you have an old splitter or a surge suppressor for coax, the DVRs may not be able to talk to one another. So let the installer know if you have any of these.

Nope. Brand new house with TWC-installed splitter inside, and Eaton coax surge suppressor on the street side of the POE filter. Normal whole house functionality has been working fine so far. I was just wondering if there were any operational differences between having 1 WHDVR and 2 WHDVRs.

Thanks,

Ever since the 5.2 update, I've noticed that my 8640's clock runs slow and is not getting corrected/updated from the headend except when rebooted. It lost about 3.5 minutes in the past week.

Prior to the 5.2 update, the clock had always been quite accurate, never more than a few seconds off from the correct time. I doubt that the update changed the accuracy of the on-board clock... more likely that it may have blocked regular time corrections from the headend.

Anybody else notice this? I am not seeing this on the 3260s (haven't really checked the 4250), so I don't think that it's a headend issue.

Maybe this has been mentioned before, but I found something in Navigator recently and I'm curious if it has been discussed before and if anyone has anymore info on it.

The other day, I accidentally tuned the channel on my cable box to Channel 6. In my area, this is the basic channel that NBC is carried on. I normally never leave the HD's (1000's), but for some reason I selected channel 6 instead of channel 1120 (NBC HD). My cable box tuned to channel 6, but displayed the HD feed of NBC and not the SD feed. I started to try this on other channels, and found that when tuning to the standard cable channel of the major networks (NBC, ABC, CBS, FOX), the HD feed was displayed by the cable box when tuned to these standard definition channels. I tried with other channels, like TBS, Comedy Central, etc. and the only other channels that successfully displayed the HD feed were ESPN and ESPN 2.

Has anyone else noticed this? Has it been mentioned here before? Is Navigator beginning to add redirects into the channel mapping so that if an SD channel is selected and an HD feed is available, that the cable box will the display the HD feed by default? Just curious if anyone has anymore information on this, or if I'm just really late to the party with noticing this.

AutoHD has been discussed here on and off in the past... I reported it being activated in Charlotte a few weeks ago:

At the moment, it's availability is limited to the OTA networks + ESPN. Works for both viewing and recording.
