  • I definitely do not have any of the advanced search features enabled (actually found an "Advanced Search = False" listing in the ODN diagnostics).  However, a limited form of it is present in the new OnDemand portal... limited to searching OnDemand content, of course.  Seems to work OK... don't really care because I pretty much have no use for search features anyway.
  • One negative on the new DVR listings is that it takes a couple of more button presses than it previously took to initiate playback of a recorded show...  Not just opening the folder for the series... there's an extra step after that, too.
  • Twice now I've entered into a guide or menu and have had the screen doubled vertically (two copies of the menu/guide stacked on top of each other).  I had previously had a similar occurrence right after the initial ODN6 upgrade, except the first time the graphics were doubled horizontally and this time they are doubled vertically.  Cycling the power button fixes it.

Can you tell me if when you pause a show, then hit (exit) to get rid of banner, then frame advance (right arrow), does the banner come back? It might be different when watching live TV, compared to a recording too.

Now if it does.. can you hit EXIT again, and then continue to to go frame by frame, without the banner coming back again?

I remember on old SARA boxes that the banner would stay gone so you could frame by frame the program after pausing so that you could see the entire screen.

It's especially annoying when watching, for instance, a boxing match and trying to determine if one boxer had his foot onto of the other boxers foot which causes a trip and knock down.. Something like that, or watching a car crash in racing frame-by-frame. So annoying that the banner keeps coming back.

I had an update last night, and I tested that out, and the banner stayed gone, then later yesterday it was like before.. it came back. Then I tried it again later at night last night (a few hours ago) and the banner stayed gone again.

Not sure what's going on. I did not have any of those updates you mentioned, but last night around 2:30am I lost phone, internet and cable at the same time, cable box rebooted, modem rebooted, and everything was fine.. But it seems like a big update of some sort.

Banner returns on any/every key press after it is cleared.  I agree that it is an annoying behavior.

Oh ok, that sucks. Maybe it's just a fluke here.

BTW my sig is outdated, I use a Sammy H3272 now.

How long does it normally take these updates to get pushed out to North Texas? I just moved to TWC from Dish and the Hopper (no choice at new apartments) and have the Motorola DCX3510.

Here in CNY we are getting an update right now at 3:20am. It isn't finished yet but it is taking longer than the usual program guide refresh.

With the new ODN, does anyone know how to escape back up a menu level in the DVR menu once you have reached the screen for an individual show? Or the show folder if you want to call it that. I feel like it ought to be staring me in the face, but I can see it.
I bet it is "C".. Just a hunch.

Yes, it's [C].  [Exit] dumps you completely out of the DVR menu.  There is so little use for the "real"  [Exit] button that the [C] doesn't also do that I have programmed the [Exit] buttons on my Harmony remotes to send "C" instead of "Exit/Return".  The only place I have found that you truly need the "Exit/Return" functionality is to exit diagnostics menus.  A single or double press of [C] seems to be able to replace [Exit] anywhere inside the Navigator GUI.

The other useless (since ODN 6) OE button is [Menu].  Nothing really there of use. Ever since ODN 6 rearranged the whole search/menu structure, I have remapped the Harmony [Menu] button to the much more useful "Settings" function.

UPDATE: I have learned that if you press [Play] while the top level folder is selected (rather than just selecting it), it will go straight into playing the show, bypassing all of the navigating required if you open the folder instead.  It will also start playing the top show on the list when multiple episodes are in the folder.  Unfortunately, I think (I will verify tonight) that the episode list is sorted newest first so you will not get the oldest episode if you just press play on the folder.

Another way to move back one level in the menu structure is to press the left directional arrow. That was the first thing I tried when I ended up in your situation and it worked. For me, this is more convenient than the C button.

Thanks guys.

You would think they would put that instruction on there somewhere. They have the whole screen taken over with that folder menu.

Speaking of the diag. menu, our section here around Raleigh, NC seems to be pushing the Motorola boxes lately. That is about all the guys have on their trucks. I seem to recall in the past there were actually two diag menus, the full version that ran some 20 pages and a shorter one. I can't seem to get that short diag menu to come up now. Actually, I have had trouble getting to the regular diag menu and even getting the box to reboot at times.

Any word on if you received the update or was it just an abnormally long guide refresh?

Here in CNY we did receive the update with the widescreen program guide and redesigned recorded programs list.

The new guide is quite nice and was long overdue. The recorded programs list however is a bit strange in places and one of the issues was mentioned above. Once you are in a folder there are zero on-screen hints as to how one is suppose to exit it! The simplest solution I found was to press the left arrow twice(next to Select button). This way you don't have to go searching for the C button as your thumb is already using the arrows to navigate.

Confirmed... when you press play on a folder holding multiple episodes, it starts playing the newest one, not the oldest.

Maybe later updates as migration gets hit to more boxes the folder screens will become easier to manage. What are the options for deleting a DVR show now? Some people were very confused by some added steps there.

You mean you can press EXIT to just leave the folder screen? On what screens does EXIT still work?

Best bet is to delete the show from the popup when it completes playing, same as before.

From within the folders, there is a Delete Shows (plural) in the first level down where it normally lists multiple episodes (even if there is only one episode in the folder).   Selecting "Delete Shows" dumps you over to the rather messy multiple delete screen.

If you drill down one more level to the single episode screen, you get your options to Play that episode or Delete just that episode (without having to go the multi-delete page.

You can also access the multi-delete screen directly from the top level DVR menu by scrolling right to the Options tab, which contains Delete Shows, Series Manager and the Recording Log.

All of them, same as always.

CNY got the update....my Cisco boxes have the new HD guide....trusty old SA-8300HD kept the old SD guide.

I noticed with the latest update here in CNY, you can now rewind from the screen at the end of a recording, the one that says 'save' or 'delete'. I dont think you could do this before because i remember fast forwarding too much and not being able to go back, but I am not sure what version that was in.

Thanks for the updates. Really hoping they come out with something awesome at CES in January or I may have to invest in a Tivo Roamio.

Also - as someone pointed out above it looks like DVR compensation is back - I missed that feature while it was gone.

That feature was added in one of the ODN 6 updates... don't remember exactly when.  The problem with it was and still is that since they added the ability to rewind out of that screen, for some reason the screen pops up prematurely (before you actually reach the end of the show) if you try to FF close to end.  The show will actually still be playing underneath the popup.  Not the end of the world but still mildly annoying.

Another minor bug I've noticed is that in the new recording log, the date column is not wide enough to fit two digit dates.

Running 6.0.0_19 here still and I can rewind out of the end screen. To semi-avoid the end screen coming up early, don't FF more than 2x speed at the end of videos. 3x-4x always seems to trigger it early. There's another bug with 6.0 that I hope they've fixed. If you start a video that's still recording and happen to be FF'd when you reach the time it was at when you started playing, the end screen can also prematurely come up. For example, 8:00-9:00 show, you start watching at 8:38 and if you FF at 3x-4x when you reach 8:38 the end screen will come up 22 minutes early. You then need to rewind out of the screen and then play or FF slower past that timeframe.

Well our DVRs have had the new ODN software for a couple of weeks now and I really like it. Over the past few years I have had 3 main issues with TWC tv service.

1. Compression of HD channels
2. No widescreen guide
3. No folders in DVR list.

This new version of ODN software addressed both #2 and #3. The wide screen guide is a big benefit and so are the folders.

Recently I added a 4th issue to the list which are audio and video dropouts that happen quite frequently now. The screen goes black for 5-10 seconds many times per hour. It is probably a box issue, but for now it isn't worth the hassle of a box swap.

Well as much as everyone likes to complain about Navigator, if Charter cable buys all or most of TWC I would expect the level of service and program guide to get worse not better.

Charter has no multi-room DVR offering and no access to scheduling over the internet.

They are in the process of going all digital in all markets and don't appear to use switched digital video(SDV) which is frequently the culprit behind the dreaded "Channel Not Available" message.

Charter does use SDV in some areas.

Charter is all digital in my area and still uses SDV. In the few years I had SDV, I've never seen a "Channel Not Available" message. I agree that their DVR's suck (that's why I use WMC instead), but they have a brand new interface in testing (LINK). Back when I had a Charter DVR, I did schedule recordings on-line all the time (LINK).

After years of consistently being one of the worst companies in the country, they've made a dramatic turn around recently. Service, lineup and picture quality are top notch, as is their internet service. My only complaints are their lack of inexpensive internet plan and terrible DVRs.

I have a feeling that TWC is going to go tell Charter to "Pound Sand." Insiders have said that TWC may be more interested in merging or working with Comcast than Charter. I wish TWC was more forthcoming about guide updates. What is being worked on for the future? What is the road-map to either replace these SA boxes from the system or begin cloud migration for them? Why are some divisions so insistent on holding on to the legacy boxes? Why can't customers just get the makes and models of boxes they want across divisions?

TWC's way too secretive about any kind of updates. I think they have too much on their plate as is to be thinking about a potential buyout or merger? Who's to say how long any type of acquisition would take to complete?

I heard Charter had great leadership under the President before Tom Rutledge. Don't know his name. A lot of people weren't happy with Mr. Rutledge and Customer Service for the first year or so was not good. Now I heard it has gotten better. The DVR boxes though are TWC type legacy boxes I think across the board.

What would happen to the more modern Signature Home and Whole House DVR boxes and networks if Charter or Comcast took over?

I did hear that Comcast subs with Triple Play get the newest boxes as a thanks for being Triple Play subs. So that's cool! I don't know about Comcast Customer Service. Some critics used to call Comcast "Comcrap."

Well they removed "recently watched" list. WTF, something I actually used, and they scrap it.

Also DVR compensation completely sucks now. Whatever they did to it, it sucks and doesn't work at all now. It's inaccurate and seems to be dividing the show up into segments, not going from spot where you hit play, but going from some predetermined section or something. It's just crap basically, and doesn't work like it should.
It won't even let you pause, and then play without it barging in and going back 10 seconds. it is not supposed to work like that. If I hit pause first, DVR compensation should go away, but it doesn't. I had to turn it off it's so bad. Stupid people cannot code to save their lives.

Menus are slow as hell now too. Nothing like waiting one full second every time you scroll down one line in list, or in guide, when the screen is scrolling too.
