Thanks for the advice on the receivers guys. Boy, a lot of education for me.

Now the question I have is with accessories4less... Are they safe to go with? I see a deep discount on the KEF system but it states cosmetic imperfection. If anybody got any experience with them please let me know. I have read a lot of other people's feedbacks and they are almost all positive.

What do you think? Or should I just go buy something new (not opened) to be safe?

ac4less is an authorized dealer for KEF speakers. You're safe purchasing from them. They get a lot of imperfections or open box items as well as new in box items but they all come with full mfrs warranty.

If you have doubts, give them a call about the speakers. They're known for good customer service. 800-657-0195

My rears are a pair of Kef 2001.2 bought from a4l. No problems, mine had no blemishes at all.

You could call to ask the extent of the blemishes and go for new (only $200 more) if you think they'll fail WAF inspection.

But odds are you won't be able to see anything unless you are standing beside the speaker doing a detailed inspection; certainly not when you're on the couch, with lights down watching a movie.

I like brand new stuff.

Thanks for the response on accessories4less. You know what guys?! After discussing the 5005s with you I am having second thoughts about iQs. Let me dig up some room setup pictures for my wife. Maybe they are not that bad.

I must admit buying toys like this is so much fun!!!!!

If you have the room for iQ1/iQ2/iQ3/iQ5 the deals (best at Vanns, next is OneCall then a4l) are irresistable.

I really like the look of KEF's floorstanders. Would you recommend them for my small media room? 12.5'x13.5'

here's what I'm looking at:
(2) iQ7's
1 iQ6c

Here are the pics... from this...

to something like this...

I'd have to move the sub to the back. From wall to media cabinet is 22" on each side so they'd have to be pretty close to the corners of the room. I tried bookshelves sitting on the cabinet, but they just didn't look right. (Sounded great though (3 ascend sierras)

Sub is always best in the front... ALWAYS... it sounds off in the back... i will have you a price in a few mins.... expect a PM... if you can swing it do IQ9's in that room it is big enough...

I know this is like crazy talk but... i have a pair of of Ref 207's i would like to move as well... in excellent shape not a thing wrong with them.... just need to bring in the new Ref series and have got good use out of these so willing to deal on these ones... These are series 1 Reference 207's
post #1811 of 6023
If you don't mind your media cabinet being off centre then you should be able to fit floorstanders, sub and cabinet all in front (since the top of your sub is lower than your screen).

What height is your screen? iQ5s are only 32", they might fit under it too.

I'd say go for the most iQx you can buy for your budget, be it from Vanns or our new friend pal1982.
Just a lil FYI i have alot more Dark Apple than any other color... so if your willing to go that way chances are i will have that model... other colors are well scarce

Hey i am here to help i have been a KEF dealer for over 6 years, they are a great line i got a good deal on the remaining IQ line i figured pass it on... plus if your not in TN there is no tax which saves ya, and i don't charge extra shipping, some companies do that to make their extra overhead... i just charge whatever come up on the UPS shipping meter... so no extra fee.

What kind of sub are you using?
Also when its in the front of the room make sure you have it on 0 degree phase, on the side 90 degree or 180 degree depending on the side and in the back well... that can just be a whole new ball game.... usually some subs like we carry Dynaudio, they have a 270 degree setting and thats where you set it.

I just got my Onkyo 705 from them in perfect condition. It's an amazing sound. and a KEF 2001.2 egg. Both were fine. The KEFs had a couple of scuffs on the back, but not noticeable from a distance. If you are really just looking for aesthetics and a good enough sound I suggest you go with the KEF 5000, 3000, 2000, or 1000 depending on budget. They are more than adequate for most people.

In my room it sounds better in the back actually.

Kinda strange, but the room has a weird configuration. I think the crawl test is the best method to place a sub though.

Bummer.

I just received my iQ1s (Walnut) from Vann's and the inside part of the front port was detached and rattling around inside the speaker.

I just called and got a RMA no problem, but now no iQ1s!

I guess that's the chance you take ordering from clearance. Has anyone else ever ordered from Vann's clearance?

I ordered a set of open box iQ3s from A4L a while back and they were just about perfect. I tiny scratch in the back of one speaker and that was it.

I guess you never know.

If you need walnut i can still get it straight from KEF they have VERY LIMITED quanities!

I'm certainly not going to report you, pal1982, but I think you are pushing the boundaries of the forum rules, here. Just a friendly warning.

I'm comparing these sets, and am puzzled by a few things. Please forgive me if these questions have been discussed somewhere in the 60-odd pages of this terrific thread:

1) Seems 3005 satellites have slightly bigger driver (4.25" vs 4"), same tweeter and (unlike the 2005s) a three-way centre. The FR for the 3005 is listed at 70Hz to 55 kHz, versus 80 - 27 kHz for the 2005 -- seems to be a big difference.

2) The higher-priced ($2,000) 5005 set has smaller Uni-Q drivers than the 2005 and 3005 (3 inch), although all the speakers are three-way. Can anyone advise on how all this factors out? Is the 3005 worth the extra $ over the 2005, and is the 5005 worth the extra $ over the others?

3) I just bought the Pioneer 1018. Is it powerful enough for all of these sets? It's rated at 130 watts per channel, but with a continuous power output of 110 watts per channel at 8 ohms. The KEF 2005 satellites are rated at 100 watts.

Thanks for any advice. I've heard only the 2005s at this point, in a lousy big store showroom, and they were absolutely stunning to my ear.

Not a huge difference but, yes, different. The 3005 is the most popular setup.

The 5005's are more expensive because decent performance and smaller costs more. And the 5005s are designed for a smaller niche market of people who want small and sleek looking.

The 3005s should outperform the 5005s. Are the 3005s worth the extra $ over the 2005s? Depends upon what prices you are able to get them for. As I said, the 3005s seem to be, by far, the more popular set. Check the online prices for the 2 sets.

It's perfectly fine.

I can't wait to hook these babies up to my 805! (Retiring a very old set of Infinity RS-5 towers and a CC-2 from my front soundstage.) I was torn between the iQ5s and the iQ7s for the matching with the 6c, but I've heard that it's really the tweeter that matters more than the midrange for timbre matching, and the tweeters are identical across all of the iQ Uni-q drivers. And I couldn't pass up the full-size towers for $40 more. I'm sure Audyssey will smooth out any rough edges between the center and the front channels. It did a good job with the mismatched Infinity set (5.25" midrange in the fronts, 4.5" in the center.)

I had a set of Ebayed 3005 eggs that were damaged in shipping that finally went back to the post office for the insurance payout, which covered these new speakers. I liked the eggs, a dramatic improvement in the highs over the Infinities, but felt that they were lacking a bit in the bass department, even with my velo subwoofer working in tandem with the 3005's sub. Plus, my wife thought they were a bit strange looking, sitting on their spindly stands.

For now, I'm moving the Infinity set to the rear soundstage, where they'll live until I get a couple sets of iQ3s to take over.

Can't wait!

-P

iQ3s not available in walnut at Vanns. Black and maple.
They do have the side firing iQ8s (8?) in walnut. better jump now.
I got a iQ2 in walnut for $99 shipped !!!!!

Question for all;
I have a pair of old 901s that I plan on using as front speakers being the tight wad . Are the modern centers ( eg; iQ2) a match with these or am I trying to fit a square peg ? Are the iQ5 and 7s that much better?

PS; going to use a Motherthumper of a sub. Down to 17hz.

Well, are you going to then go to 7.1? Hwo much are the used RDM3s going to cost you? There aren't many people here who have had any experience with the RDMs.

Do the 901s have fabric tweeters? The newer KEFs with metal dome tweeters sound a lot different from the old KEFs.

Thanks for the consideration of your reply sivadselim.
Yes fabric. 9 per speaker ! This speaker is where Bose established itself.
I thought about this all night, literally. Going to retire them and go with iQs all around for the "oneness" feeling stated a few pages back. Now the next step. iQ1's or 3's. Prolly the 3's but they are 5 lbs more wall mounts all around and don't know if brackets are available for 3's. See them all the time for 1's.

Hey all. I just unpacked and hooked up my iQ7s!

Its freezing out, so I haven't listened to them yet. I'm going to let them warm up a little bit, while I head back to work. A couple quick observations. They are a little smaller that I expected (probably a plus for WAF). And I never picked up from the pics that is mid driver in the uniQ is different material than the woofer. I have no opinion on either of these, just some observations.

I have a couple quick questions.

1. Will they be OK sitting directly on a hardwood floor?

2. I do not want to open a can of worms, but what's the the word about leaving the grills on? I like them off for my bookshelves, but for the floorstanders, the kids will be able to get to them!!! They will be "on" for most of the time(for protection), but I'll probably take them off when I have the house to myself.

I will be cranking them up later!!!!!

I suggest putting them on 4 little glue-on rubber disks that come with at least some of these speakers.
