Checking it out now..

How would you guys rate your KEF speaker setup on a scale of 1 to 5 with 1 being the brightest and 5 being the warmest.

Here is my rating:
2 - for my iQ1s/iQ2c setup.
I'd rate my IQs at a 3 or 4. They are much brighter than the energy speakers I have in my home.

I have a Yamaha RX-V665 and Polk Audio Monitor 50s.
Would I notice a difference using the same receiver and upgrading to the iQ50s or would I need an external amp to run them?

If anyone interested in buying iQ1s and iQ2c, ping me.

Hi I got went to the store last night to buy some Klipsh rf-52s and let the Salesman talk me into KEF. So long story short walked out with
2 Kef C5s and a C6LCR center channel so far I do not really like them.
Also have 6 other energy speakers 2 high in the front and AMP is set up for Presence and 4 back channel Energy speakers. Also have a polk 12 inch sub with a 300 Watt Bash AMP. Base is Great Movies sound great but a little harsh and voices are Low.
Question 1 Do these speakers just suck and should I return them? I am not impressed yet.
Question 2 I was going in to get Klipsh RF52s what do you guys think? Should I return them and get the Klipsh for an extra $100-200

How much did you pay for the KEF C5s? I can't imagine the C5s costing within $100 of a Klipsch RF52. I love my KEF IQ7s though which should be closer in price to an RF52.

I'm definitely not a fan of klipsch speakers.

2 C5s and 1 C6LCR I spent $700. I can get the Klipsh rf-52s and a C-52 center channel for $800. What do you think.
Thanks I returned the Kefs as I was very unhappy with them. Anyway they gave me the Klipsch rf-52s and a c-52 for the same price so far they sound simply amazing. I will update after I get 20 or so hours break in on them.

I would give the IQ series a shot. You may like them a lot more. The IQs are a step above the C series that you bought. They have a pair of IQ50s for $600 on accessories4less.com.

If you like Klipsch then you may not like the KEFs though, as the KEFs have a warmer tone than klipsch. Also, energy speakers are warmer than KEFs.

I really like the Klipsch as front and center, But I also like the energys as my surrounds and for presence i have 6 hooked up now energy.
They all really blended together very well. As for Blu-Ray DTS-HD Master well I will know in a little while.

Have:
kef iq7 left/right mains
Marantz sr5300
SVS sub - 2531pci

LOOKING FOR SURROUNDS & CENTER

Room

13 x 22 with big 6' openings to right of couch and left of TV.

Couch against wall - 10' from listener to mains. Mains 7' apart & 1' off wall.

Thinking wall mounted iq1 or iq10 6' to either side of center listner and 1' behind

Not sure how high? May have two adjustable positions of 4' and 6' using a sailboat car track.

Also what center? Thinking iq6c to match iq1s.

Wondering whether I should try to match iq7 drivers?
I used IQ1s as surrounds for my IQ7. For my center, I'm using an IQ5 tower.
So I take it you like that set up?

My cabinet can't take a iq5, but the iq2c or iq6c works - what's your thought on that match?

thx

I love my setup. Very good stuff.

I used to have an IQ6c in my apartment. I loved it. I just moved to a new house recently, and the room is significantly larger, and the acoustics are much worse due to hard wood floors, and a ton of reflective surfaces. I couldn't hear dialogue very well till I upgraded to a tower. However, in my apartment, the IQ6c worked well.

amplifier for my onkyo

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

First of all, I would like to apologize for my poor English, since I'm writing from Brazil.

I have the onkyo 5007 in a 7.2 setup. The central speaker is the kef xq50c ant the frontals are the xq40's. They can accept amplification up to 200 w. Since the speaker goes to 145 watts, I would like to buy an external amp to bi amp the speakers.

I really want to bi amp them, but can I do it? What amplifier do you recommend? I do not want to clip the speakers, but I think It would be nice the results.

Second question Do you guys think that I will have better results going to a 9.2 setup? Which speakers can I use it in addition to my current setup? I was thinking on the xq20's as front speakers.

Thanks in advance and once again sorry for the poor English

I'm just about to pick up the same fronts and center and have an Onkyo 5007as well. In your opinion, how do the xq40's sound with the Onkyo. I've heard a lot of people say that the lower end KEF's dont sound very good with the lower end Onkyo's. I'm hoping that the 5007 and the XQ series are a good match.

You can bi-amp directly from the 5007 without need to purchase an additional amp. You would just lose a set of your surround speakers... I believe the rear back's.

Let me know what you decide on.

Wondering whether I should try to match iq7 drivers? How about using iq3 as a center?

I have a 6.1 recv, so I could try other one behind the couch firing up ( I know its not ideal)

Bigger issue is the center channel - ideally it goes in cabinet under TV BUT concerned of reflection etc. I could put an IQ3 above TV.

I don't think it's a true-bi amp though. I believe you actually need two amps for that, and an external crossover.

I have an iQ3 above my TV as my centre. It is a perfect match for the two iQ3 I have as my L/R fronts.

Your perfect centre would be another iQ7 (I know, there's no room for an iQ5 let alone an iQ7).

Both the iQ3 and iQ6 use the same 6 1/2" UniQ driver as your iQ7s.

I'm not sure whether both the curved design and the multiple driver (presumably all dealing with different frequency ranges) makes the iQ6 immune to the standard centre lobing issue.

The iQ6c has 5.25" drivers.

Well, yes, it's not a true active bi-amp but it still assigns two amps per speaker and is "passive" bi-amping; something the AVR is equipped to provide.
I think the IQ6c uses a 5 1/4" drivers. In my personal experience. I much prefer vertical bookshelf or tower centers over the standard horizontal center.

If you can't fit an IQ7 or IQ5. I would definitely go with an IQ3. After switching to vertical centers, I'm not going back.

Yep, you're right. I should of been more clear.

My bad

And I'll also add that when I went from iQ1/iQ2 to three iQ3 across the front - WOW!
hmmm - I could lay an iq7 on its side above the TV. But I'd rather spend less on the iq3.

Also would the iq3 be better than the iq6c? Or do the extra drivers on the 6 make up not being exact same size?
That's a tough one. On paper the IQ6c should be better, but I haven't compared them. The IQ6c has a larger cabinet, has three 5.25" drivers, and it is a true 3 way speakers.
GOOD AMP for iq7s?

Marantz 5300 (has pre outs) - in a fairly reflective room.

I have an svs pci sub.

Thinking that I'll spent $ on amp and maybe forgo the center?

Mains are 7' apart and 9' from listener.

Warm Amp?
