The sound quality of the IQ 9 cannot be beat by anything in price range.

I wouldn't go that far. While, you and I may think they're the best speakers in the price range. Many would disagree since when it comes to speakers like this, it's mainly about preference, and one's tastes. There are many people that think their brand is the best speakers in their price range, and in that case they're right.

Its all subjective. I have not auditioned any of the IQ series but I am certain I will love the IQ90's The entire series won a ton of awards which is reassuring.

I wasn't even thinking of buying KEF for my ht,till i went to a friends who had a setup with 4 iq30's and the matching iq center with a sub. It's clarity and detail wowed me,i was going to get the iq30's,then saw deals in the iq90,then saw they had a new line out. im a few weeks from completing my 5.1 system, kinda got sidetracked upgrading from the 700's to the 900's,which should take place next week....then a sub and q800's surround. Speakers have always been subjective, look at how many ppl love horn tweeters.. If I had 20k to put into a system I'd probably get ML's with krell or audio research mono amps..I almost got the ml motion but decided to give the kef's a shot first, glad I did.

IMO, they're some of the most detailed speakers I have ever heard.

Hi

This is my first post. I hope this is an appropriate place to post it.

After hearing some KEF speakers at a friends the other day, I've determined they are the right brand for me The clarity is outstanding and this is the most important aspect for me

My question, though, is whether paring some older IQ fronts (probably the IQ 90s) with the new Q200c or Q600c center channel would sound okay. I've only heard the IQ series center, but I can't find one at a reasonable price in the walnut finish to match the IQ90s.

And I guess that's another good question, is the walnut finish on the IQ series the same as on the new Q series?

Thanks!!

That may be something you may want to call kef to ask, because I'm sure no one has tried this to see how well they blend together.

Thanks for the quick reply!

Do you think it's because this is obviously a bad idea?? Or simply because the Q series is relatively new?

Is it common that a successor to a well-reguarded line such as the IQ series would deviate significantly in sound? Or does any change tend to cause significant mismatch? I'm talking among any brand of speakers, I suppose, not just the KEFs.

I realize that the only way to know this for sure would be to listen, but these babies are tough to find in stock anywhere!!

Thanks again!

jaceface- the new Q's are very different than the IQ series, they've changed the drivers in significant ways. I've found some authorized dealers giving 30% off list on the new Q's which makes them almost the same as last models saleouts.

I just got the Kef 3005SE. I bought some Sanus stands for the rears, but cannot figure out a way to mount them. Or are the Kef stands the only ones that work with these speakers.

I have older Reference 4 speakers (late 90s) and a Reference 204/2c center speaker (current model - replacing 200C) and they work really well together. Perhaps technically you should try to timbre match as close as possible but you'll be fine

Thanks for the replies. And sorry for all the smiley faces. I need to work on that.

Is it appropriate to make suggestions in this thread as to who is giving discounts? There are only 4 dealers listed on the KEF site in my state and two of them claim they don't actually carry them but can get them if special ordered. Which sounds to me like they probably wouldn't offer a discount, though I didn't ask, so I could be wrong.

The other two seem to be "home based" high end installers and I've had trouble getting a hold of them. Perhaps due to the holidays.

Anyway, thanks again. I hope to be joining the KEF owner page officially very soon (old habits die hard, i suppose)

They may have a close timbre match, and may blend well together, or they might not. Only kef would know.

I've been buying my kefs from www.accessories4less.com

I think they have free shipping on kefs right now.

Just bought mine from Vann's. Excellent prices right now on the iQ series in black.

I should be sporting iQ90's, iQ60c, and iQ10's here soon.

Would have preferred dark apple, but just couldn't pass up the deal.

Hooked mine up yesterday. Great sounding but need breaking in.

I talked to kef about matching before i bought what i did.I was told the front 3 should be from same series, the surrounds could be iq's,or vice versa..
I think the Magnepans are the best sounding loudspeaker in the price range actually hands down. What the Maggy's lack is the unreal 3D sonic quality that you get from these British speakers.

Lets remember, There are different schools of thought in the audio application world. I respect Subiefast in his development and his opinion is gold IMO. And Magnepans, as nice as they sound aren't all that suited for home theater IMO. I love KEF IQ for theater though. It's hard to find fault.
I had a pair of Mission speakers Till my step brother borrowed them and didn't give them back. Them things were awesome. They don't even sell Missions in America any more. Very few British companies still do.

I'm not a personal fan of KEF's new q series, as I think of it as a Quest for a piece of the Klipsch market???
As per KEF' warenty. I complained about an Iregularity in one of the sub woofers I recently purcased from A4L. The cone apeared to have a crack in it while unboxing it. The folks at A4l shipped a new driver from KEF without issue.

The service is prompt and without issue.
robertoa=have u listened to the new Q series or just like to make negative analogies. They are Nothing like the glaringly harsh Klipsch, they have incredible balance clarity and detail. Opinions are great if they're based on experience.
I have a quick question for anyone with the 3005 setup. I just was able to find two 3001 satellites on ebay, to upgrade my system to 7.1, but they did not include the wall brackets - a fact that escaped my notice until I was unpacking them and rechecked the original auction listing. I actually had one spare bracket (my surrounds are on stands) but I used the other spare to wall mount the center channel. Does anyone know where I can get a wall bracket so I can mount my final rear surround? Google has not been particularly helpful. Does anyone have one laying around they want to sell?
Kef will probably sell you one.

Looking for suggestions for a better center. Currently using an IQ6 Center

IQ90 - R/L
IQ7 - WR/WL
IQ8's - SR/SBR/SL/SBL
Triad Gold 15" subwoofer
Denon AVR-A100
Emotiva XPA -5 powers C/R/L/WR/WL

I would consider any center that matches. Thanks!
LONG shot, but if there's anyone in the PNW area with some Kef iQ's in any finish other than black that might want to trade, let me know. Black just isn't my style. I have iQ90's, iQ60c, and iQ10's.. all less than a week old.

I could return to Vann's, but I'd rather not.. and would have to pay return shipping on 'em.

Just a shot in the dark.

I have recently upgraded my setup from KEF IQ5s and IQ2C (could not pass the good deal on IQ90). My set is now the following:

IQ90 - R/L
IQ/60C - Center
Q800DS -SR/SL (I could not find the previous generation dipole speakers, so bought them)
KEF PSW 2500 (my existing sub)
Denon 3808 - My existing receiver (I do not see any need to upgrade the receiver - atleast for the audio)

I am very happy with the setup (though I am planning to change the sub - KEF sub is a little less tight).

So for your answer, the matching center is IQ60C (I do not think the new Q600 is a good choice for this; plus it is more expensive). You can get the IQ60C from the KEF dealers for around $310 (that is what I have paid)

iknown Thanks - I thought the IQ60 would probably be the best match.

Iknown- accessoriesforless.com has the iq8ds for $350, if u have 30 day return on those q800's.
I'm using a full tower for my center channel. I have an IQ5 center. It was way, way better than my old horizontal center which was an iq6c.

Thank you very much. I paid $600 for the Q800DS (pair). I assume the price you mentioned is for a pair.

Luckily I kept the boxes intact. I am planning to return the 800DS (it is one week old).

The old IQ8DS seems to have better bass based on the specification (65 Hz - 40 kHz) , the new Q800DS is 100Hz - 40kHz (based on the specification). However the new speaker is considerably more heavier (5 lb more). The sensitity seems to be a little bit better in the newer one (85dB v/s 83dB).

Could anyone has more information regarding the new Q series compared to the old IQ series (any side by side comparisons or tests performed)

Anyway, I am returning the one week old 800DS and buying the IQ8DS from A4Less.
