I think all you need to do is unscrew the posts all the way, and then you can remove the plastic insert.

I hv marantz sr6006 rec, and mirage musical sub. I want to build a music system .... my room is large 26 x 22.

My options are:
IQ90
Q300
XQ20

which one would be a good choice of speakers? I cannot audition them anywhere, so any input would be appreciated.
thanks Swingline. It turns out you just need to pull them out.. you have to pry from the edge with a fingernail or something.. I have no nails so it seemed like you couldn't.

Man I'm amazed at how good these speakers are. They actually exceed my sennheiser hd595 headphones which I wasn't sure was possible. Human voices actually sound real and not artificial.. also when someone strums a guitar chord I can actually hear it resonate like it's in the room with me. Bass is great too I didn't feel the need to enable my subwoofer for 2 channel music

Unscrew the lugs and push the red and black plugs out with a small screwdriver or anthing that will fit through the hole.

edit: nevermind I figured it out, I have no fingernails so I couldn't pry them out at first but a flathead took care of it

another option is to unscrew the binding post top half entirely, insert a punch or jeweler's screwdriver from the back side, and just pop the cap-cover out by tapping the punch or tool on a table top. I had to do this second method with my 200C center channel speaker, as the caps were so tight, that I couldn't even pry them out with the blade of the small screwdriver. Those puppies were in there good!

I am looking to upgrade my 5.1 setup. Currently, I am interested in the Klipsch Reference ii line as I have a pair of RF-52iis in another room and like the improvement over my old JBL E90s.

Others have recommended KEF. I am looking to spend $3k-$4k on the five speakers. I already have a sub (SVS pb-12+).

Any suggestions?

Are there any online retailers for KEF?

Hello I was originally deciding on some Klipsch speakers to go in my new surround sound system but someone turned me onto KEF. I am looking at IQ70s up front IQ60c in the center and deciding on rear speakers to go with it. What do you guys think of this set up and how do you like KEF? I am trying to decide on final purchases but I have a couple weeks before I'm home to set it all up so I have some time. Thanks for any advice!

Is this mostly for home theater? Or music as well? What size room do you have? AVR using?

Same questions with you as the post I made above.

Odd, 2 people from the Klipsch camp coming to Kef.......reason for it? Im a big Kef fan, but Klipsch makes some really great products(speakers) for dedicated home theater systems which Im not against recommending.

It is not a "normal HT" by any stretch of the imagination.

Basically, a finished basement that is one room and the same shape, size as the footprint of the house.

So we are talking a "HT room" the size of something like 60'x32'x8'? And the room is a fully dedicated HT?

Honestly, even at half that size if I were you Id be looking at something like Klipsch's KL-650's or 525's all across the board for something like that. Would be a fantastic pairing with your 4311. I honestly don't think Kef has what your looking for or need for something of that size. I've never dealt with the bigger brother 650's but have installed a full set of 525's 6-7 years ago and those are fantastic HT speakers. If they are in your budget you can't go wrong with them. All you need is the monster sized screen and pj to go with them.

Agreed.

I would say 75% movies/video games and 25% music (if that). I am a big fan of quality sound but have never had that nice of a surround sound setup just a yamaha all-in-one receiver and 5 speakers + sub in a box set.

Room is roughly 18' x 20'-25' (living room) I'm out of the country right now so can't take distinct measurements. Looking at the Onkyo TX-NR809 but that debate is going on in another forum as well lol. Looking at either Klipsch or KEF speakers but can't decide yet and sub is still up for grabs as well. Also other forums I am asking about HDMI and speaker cables / banana plugs. I want to set this system up right and budget is around $2k-$3k including receiver and speakers hopefully but I don't mind paying for quality if it is noticeable difference for the cash.

I use aurum ultra 1.4a HDMI cables from Amazon (about $3-10 per cable depending on length) and they work great. The signal is digital. 1s and 0s. It either gets to the other end of the cable or it doesn't. I don't find digital cables to be as vital to signal quality as I do analog in the case of A/V stuff. If you want ARC or 3D ability, just make sure the cables are 1.4/ethernet capable.

As for speaker and interconnect cables, I make my own.
here are a few links on guides to doing so:

AVR I still recommend the 818 over the 809, and sub, I'd still go velodyne, sunfire, or SVS.

You could also look at used KEFs. You can typically get better speakers for the same money doing so.

Please somebody help him on sub forum if you have heard Kef HTB2s

wow, the weird thing the WAF just ruled those out as "too cheesy because of high gloss", apparently it has to be white mate to look classy. Go figure...

Whats so awesome about those? To me they look just like 99% of all other square boxed speakers with glossy paint.

If you want an awesome looking speaker I'd pick up a pair of Antony Gallo Reference. Or one from the Reference or XQ series if you want Kef.

I have to admit my favorite KEF finishes are the ones they did in the 2000s with the Four~Two and Three~Two Reference series in the rounded edge rosewood and maple/tiger maple veneers. Those are truly gorgeous, and I still want a pair of Three-Two Refs in one of those two finishes.

I've even been giving some thought to re-veneering one of my pair of 104/2s in a waterfall bubinga veneer.

Hey guys:
I've been lurking a bit, and am considering the plunge into the world of KEF speakers. Presently I am considering either a pair of Q900 or Q700 speakers for my entertainment room, and wondered if the price difference is worth the step up?

I have been talking with the KEF Direct group, and they offer a trial program where they pay shipping, so I can choose a pair to audition. I just need to select which ones.

Currently using a Marantz 6005
Room size is 14 x 30
Primary use will be Home Theater, with occasional music (Jazz, Orchestral, etc.)

Any opinions?

Thanks in advance,
T

from my direct comparisons (in a same sized room) the q900 was a noticably fuller sounding (and louder) speaker than the 700.. i much prefered the sound of the 900 so went with them.. 700 is a great sounding speaker and would probably fill your need as well but I did personally prefer the 900

Looking for 2 floor standing speakers for a future family room with a two story ceiling (about 25'x18') with a side open wall. Im replacing a HTIB onkyo set. It will not be a real home theater, but I will probably watch movies and tv in there on a fairly regular basis. Not looking for anything stellar but a decent option for the room size. Some others recommended the IQ70's for about $800, but I noticed Vanns has the IQ90's for $100 less through tomorrow and they do a 30 money back deal. Would the IQ90's be a decent front speaker set for what I am looking for?

I was comparing several bookshelf speaker options and went with the Energy RC 10's and RCLCR. Right after I bought them, somebody brought up the fact that I might have problems with the rear port on the Energy's and related that the IQ 30's and IQ 60 center would be a better sounding set up.

I looked them up and loved the look, so I bought those too. Once delivered, I will compare and keep the ones I want. I didn't find a lot of feedback on here and was wondering if any owners could weigh in on this set up and how it compares to its competition for ht.

Thanks
Pat
