FWIW, I think they make for excellent, affordable surrounds or backs for any Uni-Q front stage speaker system ; )
I would include the Focal Dome or Sib series in best-of-the-rest lifestyle/satellite speakers along with the MilleniaOne's and KEF 3005's. Both the Focal satellites go to 80hz or lower (+/- 3db). Lots of great reviews re the MilleniaOne's but it's always nagged/concerned me that they're spec'd down to only 120hz. Having the sub fully cover the 80 to 120 range seems like it could diminish imaging a bit (and I'm a big fan of nice imaging - part of why I like my KEF speakers so much).
Yup, I currently have older 2005 eggs as surrounds and heights in a 7.1 system with Q100's across the front. (There's pics of the system posted back in this Kef thread somewhere.) This new system will be in a NYC apartment. I'm not looking for high SPL's or thunderous bass, just accurate sound with great imagining and a small form factor to go with our decor.
I'm don't doubt that the Focal Dome and Sib's also sound good, but I wouldn't recommend crossing them over at 80hz, regardless of what the Focal says. For instance, my Q100's have a 5.25" driver in a much bigger ported enclosure and I cross them over to my sub at 100hz. But who knows, I could be wrong.
The current Kef eggs have a 4.5" uni-q driver. I agree, I'd love to see a new version with a 5.25" or even 6.25" driver in them with the curved shape. I'd buy them right away.
