As far as I know, yes. CD quality @ 16 bit/ 44.1 kHz.

I have an Apple TV and stream from my Windows 7 HP laptop but I always felt the sound quality was not quite at CD. I would do quick AB tests and could not pick up a difference after level matching so it remained an unknown for quite a while. However, one Saturday I hit it hard and went through a number of CDs and finally found a Rusted Root song where the difference was notable, more depth on the CD if I remember right. So at least in my case, streaming Apple Lossless is not as good. However, when hooked up direct, I can't tell from Redbook CD.

Jim, it's been years since I used iTunes (I presume this is the only media player you can use), so it might be best to do further research, but Quicktime audio settings should be configured to Windows Audio. This kicks in exclusive mode session via WASAPI and bypasses any internal windows mixer.

I do the same, only with foobar.

Do you stream it or is it wired?

Wired will provide better quality and no drop out

All of my computers are hard wired, and I am directly connected to my receiver. It doesn't really matter though, we're not talking about a great deal of bandwidth for audio streaming across a wireless network, and locally you should have no latency problems that would contribute to drop out.

Sorry wse, years ago that may have been the case, but there are no issues with wireless streaming quality if your equipment is remotely up to date. Both bandwidth and wireless router buffers have improved significantly, as have the filters that control WLAN frequencies.

Very true. For something like blu-ray or HD Video contents, wire Ethernet makes a HUGE difference, but not for some MB-size lossless music files. biggrin.gif

I've never experienced a single dropout when streaming from my iPad to my AVR. Crystal clear as if hardwired.

Truth be told, I never had consistent problems with video either since 802.11g, and not a glitch with 802.11n, either 2.4 or 5GHz (with mixed-mode routers). It's been only about 15 months since my home theater rebuild and physical ethernet extension, before then I used all wireless from office to both HT and bedroom for my library of HD movies and Netflix, Hulu, etc. Following a few basic guidelines for network setup, QoS and file formats a clean, trouble free wireless network is possible. The end devices are more problematic than the WLAN, some suck, some don't. The hard part is avoiding the dogs.

That said, I would still recommend 100 Mbps or better LAN for anyone who can run the cables.

Disclaimer: I'm a network nerd.

Hello, i played a few years surround with a HTS 2001.3 set. (eggs)
Now i am going back to stereo on a Technics SU-A700 amp. Will a set of IQ30, make a lot improvement? Room is 12x25 ft

I can buy them 2nd hand for 250€ incl. stands - Is that a correct price?
Don't know much about KEF. Hopefully you guys can help me out. What is everyones overall impression of the KEF IQ90's? and is about $500 for a pair a reasonable price?

Im thinking about replacing my KEF 3005 front eggs for a pair of R500s. I would like to get a better stereo result for music and ofc a better overall experience for movies. Im using an Onkyo 606 receiver. Would like a second opinion on the replacement because im in for a fairly good deal on the R500s.
R500s should be a great move. Assume you already have a sub.

I have the sub from the KEF KHT 3005 speaker set, the htb2. I'll probably demo them first though, just incase.

They are both excellent sounding and looking speakers. I am running them as my main left an right speakers. I'd say $500 pair is reasonable, depending on condition.

Where are you seeing IQ90's? I need a pair and will move the IQ30's to the rear.

There was a pair for sale on ebay not far from me in jersey but they sold higher than what I'm able to spend right now.

Got my pair of Q900's in yesterday! They'll be used mainly for stereo music, the occasional movie too, in my den's hi-fi. Any other owners have advice for break-in? I've searched around and read about them not really opening up until after 100+ hours or so of use, for now that will be my baseline. So far they are excelling just at low-volumes:D (they replaced vintage Electro-Voices). Excellent mid-range!! The bottom end seemed a bit muddy for the first few hours of listening, but now is already rounding out with nice details. Can't wait to get more hours on them!!
The bulk of the Break-in should be in about 4 hours.
Wow! Thanks for the quick reply, I have about 10 hours on them now.
Some say speakers can continue to break in over 100 hours but my experience is most of it is done by 4 hrs.

We just get used to it differently, it took three years to get rid of the new car smell, it makes me nauseated!!

Hello
I would like to create a new system.
My perception is 5.1 system
Kef R 500 - R200c Kef - Kef R100 - Kef want it to be in the form of sub R400b.
I think to use with the Onkyo avr 5010.
How do you think such a system will result?
I would appreciate your thoughts declare.
thanks
Mustafa

Speakers look fine. I would get dual Rythmik FV15HP and Denon 4520, instead.

2m SPL @ 32/40/50/60 Hz:

RBH SX-12: 108/111.1/113.7/112.7
Epik Empire: 109.7/113.2/116.4/119.2
Paradigm Sig Sub2: 109.9/113.2/116.9/120.2
Hsu VTF-15H: 113.0/115.7/115.7/115.6
Velodyne DD18+: 113.0/115.8/116.8/115.3
SVS PB13 Ultra: 115.5/117.5/117.8/116.6
Chase HT VS18.1: 116.0/118.1/117.8/117.2
Rythmik FV15HP: 117.0/119.5/119.1/118.8

Question about the R200c/R600c - is there anything cosmetic (besides the orientation of the logos and binding posts - that would preclude using them as vertical MTMs? That is to say, is the "bottom" finished just like the sides?

I've been thinking they might make good surrounds. The R300's seem to be voiced more midrange-heavy than the R200c/R600c, so I expect I'd prefer two of the centers to the R300..
All the Q series are uniform on all sides, as are the R100's and LS-50's. I haven't seen the other R series.

Probably can call/ask Kef Direct ...
