I feel your pain! However, look at it from Nintendo's perspective -- in addition to cutting cost they want the Wii to be as simple as possible to set up.We
care about composite cables, that's why we come to this forum. But at least 90% of the people out there really don't care about composite or even s-video, and adding multiple cables or a universal cable adds a touch of confusion and possible mix-up to the initial setup.
The composite cable will work on just about every TV except very old ones. If component is important to you (as it should be to everyone on this forum), they have a solution available at a price. It's up to you to decide price versus reward.
