i still vote he's ex CIA/other 3 letter acronym that knew about the attack.

he's out in jericho to be in the middle of nowhere. but he's mr. survivalist and hence all of the junk, including the rental space full of SHTF stuff...

From Wednesday ratings
Jericho is holding on strongly with 10.83M viewers, down only slightly from last week against stiff competition...

So it looks like we are safe to watch for at least another week.

Remember one other thing... nuclear weapons are not the only explosives that can cause a mushroom cloud. Given none of the pilots talking on the tape (or the kid on the roof) mentioned seeing a flash, just the mushroom cloud, this is always a possibility.

However, given we may have our first radiation victim next week, perhaps not...
Indeed, but the weapon would have to be extremely large, and it kills the whole radiation poisoning thing from last week/next week.

On a side note, the TEXT in the IMAGE (I asked a friend in HK), he said it IS chineese, and translates as "bio war"

Not sure how accurate that is, (still looking into it), but its something!

As far as I know, the Chinese and the Russians have never transported significant numbers of ground troops anywhere but to countries within a few hundred miles of their own... and definitely not accross thousands of miles of ocean.

Reminds me of the movie Red Dawn...Anyway, I seem to remember one of the guys they sent out to scout reported that he had seen some tanks, but couldn't identify any markings on them?

just a few points:

The radios were all different, the Portable that the Deputy Mayor had was a 800 mhz Trunking radio. The one used by jake was a UHF 453/460 MHZ Conventional Radio. and most of the other radios were all 27mhz CB. Even with them using a repeater on a tower, there is no way any of those handheld portables would RX or TX out of a basement miles outside of town or in Town.

and food for thought on the drum.

Most old syle Nuke Survival kits given out by EMA - Formally CD (Civil Defense) were stored in 55 USG sized Drums.
Why was the kid the only one with sense enough in town to look for the lost/belayed food shipment?

What was the "St. Louis Cop" doing in his basement? It's clear he already has a bomb shelter of sorts (he hasn't let his family out yet), so what the hell is he building?
The show should make it through to the end of the season, at least, based on the ratings. The ratings situation is very similar to heroes, with a minimal week to week dropoff, and networks seem desperate for some glimmer of hope with new shows (see Smith's fate, after only 3 episodes). Jericho is definitely a standout.

Hard to tell whether the black dots were supposed to be rats, or just wind swept debris moving across the road.

I don't read chinese, but it looks like just labels for the names of the cities, and probably USA underneath the map.

Because there's no grocery store in the country that has gotten grocery shipments by less-than-carload (LCL) rail service for over fifty years?

If this show gets cancelled I will be so pissed. Do they have all the episodes already made so that if they do cancel they would be available somewhere?
Come on guys, this show really deserves to be cancelled. It's so juvenile and formulaic that it needs to put out of it's misery. I've watched the first few shows because I thought it looked interesting. But the last episode did it for me. Good Grief, could the writing be any more lame; The one kid that was missing from the small town... just happens to suddenly show up right before a nuclear holocaust... while leaving the town (again) saves the children on the school bus... saves the people from the hospital... saves his ex from the escaped convicts... finds two jets and steals the black box from one... has super hearing and can detect an obscure, barely audible message on the voice recording from the black box, and that after using a ordinary tape recorder is able to filter out all forground noise on the tape and discover that his ex's fianc'ee is still alive! All this kid needs is a blue suit and red cape.

...and what's your point?

Sorry, "Lost" is SO much more believable than "Jericho."
Quality does NOT determine what stays on TV (I will not mention several of my 'favorites', nor a certain recently #1 rated movie), ratings do. And we all know what genuises are in charge of the networks.

And don't worry, even if the show is cancelled, that will be a selling point for the inevitable season 1 box set (a la Threshold and The Night Stalker...episodes never seen on TV!!).

Er... I didn't say anything in my post about "Lost". However; Yes, "Lost" has some aspects that require a large level of disbelief suspension. But, "Lost" makes up for it's short comings with well developed, interesting, 3-dimensional characters, and well written, rich, plot lines and story arcs. None of which is in supply in "Jericho". Plus, at least in "Lost", there isn't a "single" character that moves "faster than a speeding bullet", averting every single crisis that occurs, and remarkably saving the day, while everyone else just churns in his wake. Sorry... it's just a little too much to swallow.

That wasn't my point.

My point was that you'd think one of the first priorities of the town would would be is to look for provisions, yet a single 13yr old does this alone?

Problem is, you cant create a well developed character in three episodes, it takes longer. Yes, there are inconsistencies, over the top things etc, but TV shows (even movies) about a somewhat legitimate post-apolyptic (sp?) country are few and far between!

On a side note ,the text, I asked a friend, He said it is Chineese, and translates roughly to 'Bio War'.

Its only been 2 days Jericho time. Give the people time to think about long term. Right now they probaly all think FEMA will be there so no long term planning needed by the mayor. Theyj ust sent "scouts" out to check neighboring towns so people making plans for food/supplies is not in anyones mind I would think.
Like most shows we have the "this show sucks and I will watch it every week to tell you how bad it sucks" crowd.
JUST an FYI...

"The Day After" 1983 Movie will be shown on Sci-Fi today, sunday Oct. 08, 2006 at 4pm

Excellent, I hope its not butchered (like when it was on TVLAND)... If only they would re-rls the DVD with the REAL extended version, vs the current one, oh well!

it is the shorten version. The commercials are longer then each act they have shown so far.

For anyone that really cares about the film, the DVD can often be found for as little as $5.99 when on sale

So what would be your opinion of a realistic show that also draws more than five viewers?

In many ways, your little plot summary makes Jericho seem no worse than some of the things the writers of 24 put forth. That doesn't mean 24 isn't enjoyable, just that most every show on TV is formulaic with unbelievable characters who come out of nowhere to save the day.

You must also hate the Die Hard films for the same reason

LOL! So you're saying that Jericho is on the same level as 24?

I'd say 24 is a bit higher than Jericho on the "Suspension of Belief" scale.

Although, it is gaining ground.

What is the "real" extended version?

What makes it "real"? Is it what was televised?
