Mine was delivered by Best Buy at 9:30 this morning. All they would do is pull the top box off to check to make sure it wasn't broken. They wouldn't help me put the stand on (liablility issues?). Anyhow, I had to go to work, so that's as far as i've gotten so far. I've got a phone camera pic so far, that's all. More to follow tonight when I get home to play with it.

how you can go to work with such a beautiful display still in its box at home is beyond me...

maybe its because I've yet to own a plasma. When I finally get mine soon I might have to take a few days off

I've got mine scheduled for tomorrow afternoon but may be out on travel for a few days (nooooo). Additional bummer is D* came to the house today to replace old with new HD dish but found out a big tree - not on my property - is blocking the HD bird in sky (anyone know of any fast-chewing tree-eating bugs?). But all that's okay because I'm still smiling knowing that soon I'll have that baby fired up with at least the Toshiba HD-A1. I tell you it's tough to get a good night's sleep with all this anticipation!

No need for bugs, just get a hand saw, some black clothing, cut the tree down at night, and run a random direction screaming "IN THE NAME OF HD-TV!"...noone will ever know....

Well, i've had about 15 minutes with the TV, and all I can say is - WOW. It's a beautiful piece of machinery. I have a Sony HD DVR going to it right now. Getting ready to put the HD DVD player on it. That's where the real fun will begin. No visible picture structure from 1 1/2 feet. Wow. Every bit worth the wait.

I'll tell you a funny thing that happened - I first turned the set on and there they were - a combination of at least SIX dead or lit pixels on the left side of the screen. The TV was in TV Guide setup mode so you could clearly see them against the solid purple background. I couldn't believe it. I turned it off, then turned it back on, and they were all gone save for one which is slightly dead. It seems to work some and then sometimes it's just black depending upon the scene. Weird, huh?

I'm probably not going to swap it out for that, even though I could.

Hmmm. Now where are those break in settings? Do I really need them? I'm probably thinking NO....

No pictures until tomorrow. Wife has the camera with her and she's out of town.

I have to stop reading this forum! My TV died last week and I figured I was just going to buy a Vizio from Costco and be done with it, since it's a second TV to a dedicated home theater.

Well after reading a few threads, I justified a 50" Panasonic or NEC, then I got thinking a 58 Panny. I thought Pioneers were just too much money (based on past experience)

Stumbled across this thread and had to go to Best Buy to check it out. All I can say is WOW. The great black bezel and nice sleek look. They had a Panny 58px600u there as well and even if picture is the same, I did not care for the look of the panel. The silver is very distracting and so is the wide bottom that sticks out in the back. It's a really bad configuration for a wall mount.

So on impulse, I called one of the forum sponsors and placed an order! Since I don't need it until September, I should be fine on delivery.

Walked into AVS looking for a Vizio 50", walked out with a Pioneer 6070! (and a much lighter wallet )

Looking forward to the owners thread and everyone's setings!

Just dragged my 6071 home from BB!

Here are two of my pals unpacking it...

Here it is with my wife and 17 day old son for size comparison

It will eventually mount from the ceiling over the fire-place there.

And here is the TV by itself:

Thanks to Kampher and the guys at BB for what's a great TV so-far! Thanks to the forum community for all their knowledge and help!

Now burning in with burn-in dvd and settings by D-NICE. Then will be my poor attempt at calibration and ceiling mounting.

Notice the detached speaker on the floor!

More pics in a minute!

More Pics!

Side inputs with thumb-drive showing new baby pictures on the TV!

Main input panel on the back

Kung-Fu in HD! The long black thing is the speaker (not attached). I eventually mounted it under the TV but will remove it later.

Sorry about the poor pics, but very tired from the baby and very excited about the TV.

Congratulations to the new owners!

Could you answer a simple question for future owners. Is the stand pre-installed? If it does it saves a step that can force one to lay it on the floor horizontally like I had to do with the Panny 500U and damn was that a heavy TV but I believe the newer ones are lightened up but a 60" I would imagine is quite heavy compared to a LCD FP. Some of us may not have buddies over to help and it would be nice if the stand is preinstalled but may not so as to prevent damage during shipping.

It's obvious the speaker bar is not preinstalled - my Sharp 45 came the same way with side mount but that's not a big deal, the deal is in lifting a 60" PDP. Not a huge deal but would make it easier to get it setup especially considering how much a 60" may weigh. It certainly is great looking TV and appears to be a best value seemingly tracking over pricing margins where the 50" used to be not all that long ago and this is a big step for consumers to finally get a HT size PDP for around $5K which has been unheard of, not even the Zenith.

Look forward to more and more feedback this week and Thank you new owners.

Stefam or other current owners,

I have been unable to find the dimension info for this panel on the pioneer site. Can someone provide the viewing screen width and height along with the measurement of how much the stand comes out in front of the tv?

I have a specific space Im trying to use and could really use these measurements.

Thanks!
stefam, please fix those black levels on your new Pio 6071HD.

They look gray, not black. Use D-Nice settings for optimal image quality.

The stand is NOT pre-installed. It's packed in a separate box, as well as the speaker. There is one big box that is thinner and that contains 3 thick boxes - the panel, the stand, and the speaker. The accesories box with the remotes and manual is in the panel box. When the Best Buy guys dropped off the plasma, all they would do is open up the box and pull off the foam from the panel to see that it wasn't broken. That's it. I had to get the neighbor to help me put it on the stand after some minor assembly. You don't have to lay the panel face down ever to put it on the stand. You just assemble the stand, then set the panel on the stand. Obviously the panel is sitting upright in foam blocks inside it's box. All you do is just lift it out of that.

I'll take some good pictures tonight of my temporary semi-ghetto setup. I'm still waiting on my Peerless ST-670 mount to come from buy.com (backordered). I've got the TV sitting on my coffee table in front of the fireplace....

HD-DVD looks AMAZING. It's a great panel and i'm keeping it!

Also - I am not and will not ever use the speaker that is new in the unopened box. Do you think I can sell this? Does anyone want to buy it?

Personally, I don't like D-Nice's break-in settings. It makes the TV look like crap, very dim and not very colorful. Does he have after-break-in settings? Can you point me to those?

LOL I think there will be a lot these speaker units for sale or sitting in storage. I kept my speakers for my first generation XBR2 for 14 years and am now going to throw them out with the TV.

Why the Peerless ST 670 and not the 660? I know it's bigger, but the 660 carries the weight and size is lower profile and less visible from the side. I'm deciding what mount to buy and the 600 and 670 are on the list.

Congratulations Stefam on your new TV!

I had a question which Best buy did you get your panel from? The BB in Pasadena off Foothill? Did they have one on display? I am planning to head down durning lunch to check it out.

I'm pretty sure the 660 is not wide enough for the 6071. The 660 has a maximum spread of 29 inches, and I believe the spread of the holes on the 6071 is wider than that. I'll double check when I get home. I hope so, because I just sold the 660 I had previously......

They gray is caused by the camera flash hitting the plastic "pire color filter".

There is no such thing as "after break-in" settings.

Yes, but it is not very legible and does not give the screen viewing size or the front part of the stand measurement.

Thanks

Kinda strange......none of the Washington, D.C. area Best Buys have the 6071 in stock yet - and their "system" doesn't say when they're expected.
Can someone who already has a 6071 at home post the dimensions WITHOUT the speaker on the bottom??

Check around some more. Ponman reported earlier that the Sterling and Tyson stores had one.

Stefam,

Was the price that you Pm'd me before or after tax?

Thanks!
