Official Pioneer PDP-6070HD/5070-1HD/4270HD Owner's thread/merged thread - Page 4

I have ordered mine and expect to have it by the end of July to the first week of August. I am biting my nails in anticipation!

My local Best Buy just told me last week that it would be early September now for the 6070. Usually these guys are not trustworthy, however he told me that the FHD1 50" would be available last week for delivery this week several weeks ago and called me to see if I wanted on delivered. Apparently they have them in the wharehouse as of Last Friday.

HAs anyone else heard about September for the 6070?

My vender still thinks they will ship first or second week of August, but even he says he is lucky to get informed a day before hand when they hit the regional warehouses for distrubution and delivery.

Isn't that an Elite? Elites cannot be posted or sold on the internet. I would think it more likely that the Magnolia Stores within BB would be getting the first 1080P Pio's as they are the high end part of BB.

I was in the Magnolia/BB in Pasadena today and the Magnolia guy punched the 6070 up on his computer (surprising since its a non-Elite and a 6070 not 6071) - I was standing behind him and got to see all the info - price (sorry can't post ) and other neat stuff.

The important thing for the current thread is - No Availability Date and No Pre-orders allowed - at least not by his computer terminal. They guy wouldn't even guess at a date. At least he wasn't constantly pestering me to buy an Elite, which is the normal response to any question I ask....

As of today, Worst Buy has the 6071 in their system for $5999, so it's looking like that is the MSRP. Of course there are none to be found, showed 0 in all warehouses, and of course they don't know when they are going to get them in, but I expect soon. The sell date said today, 7/18/06. If history follows, we'll see them in Worst Buy soon, followed by the online dealers a few weeks after that, so it is indeed likely looking like a mid-August ship date on the first batch of the 6070's.

I engaged the manager to see if I could do any kind of price negotiation, and before even looking it up, he said "This isn't a car dealership, the price is what it is." I said thank you and walked off.

Hmmm, back in 2003, I negotiated my first plasma purchase with CC, and always negotiate prices with Sound Advice (Tweeter), so I thought that there was some wiggle room with Worst Buy, but I guess NOT.

Expect a 20% discount off this price from online authorized Pioneer dealers.

Please don't buy it from the Worst Buy jackasses.

If I didn't have to worry about having my credit card charged immediately and waiting for weeks on end in the dark about when I'll actual receive my tv...

If I didn't have to worry about waiting for an extra 2-3 weeks if I got stuck with a bad panel/used panel/wrong panel...

I could go on, but I truly wish the decision could be based on price alone. I'll probably end up buying the 6070 in the next couple months but its not an easy decision on *where* to buy.

I hear you. I'm worried about dead pixels.

I want a panel free from dead pixels. I know online vendors have 'pixel perfect guarantees' and the like, but it is still going to cost you some shipping costs for that new replacement panel, and then there is no guarantee that your new replacement panel won't have dead pixels as well.

However, for $1500 extra in my pocket, I think I can probably live with a dead pixel that I can't see from 3 feet away.

Does anyone know what wall mount will be used/preferred with the 6070? Does Pioneer not have a spec tilt wall mount or do I have to take the high road and search one out from Peerless?

im thinkin the peerless st-670 (tilt) will do it but i need to verify

I spoke to my rep and he related that Pioneer has not released that info yet. Hopefully soon as I'm waiting for the same info.

Good grief....it's a wall mount. It sure would be nice to prepare the rough-in prior to arrival. Things like this should not be closely guarded corporate secrets. If the mount is so specialized then do you think this might help "lock in" a customer?

I'm also looking for mounting information for the 6070. While we wait for the specs, I have a question for this august group....

The mount will be over my fireplace into a plaster wall with the brick chimney immediately behind it.

Does this mean I need a ceiling mount? And - is a ceiling mount preferable in any case for such a large TV? I don't hear much about them on the forum.

Any help is appreciated.

Is the 6070 available online? I have seen 4 online retailers that now list it as being instock and an ebay seller has this item up for bid.

Be really really really really careful about buying a plasma on Ebay !!!!!!!!!!

No online seller and no Ebay seller has the 6070 yet, it has not been shipped.

There are some Pio authorized internet dealers, but I suspect not the ebay sellers. Pio Elite is not sold online, but the "regular" Pio stuff is. I believe Pio's website has a list of authorized dealers (then it's usually a matter of researching them and calling fo the best price, as Pio discourages dealers from advertising below MSRP (or MAP, whatever they call it).

Is TVA still a forum sponsor? What happened, and why were they removed? I was thinking of going with them as a pre-order for the Pio 6070, but now I'm not so sure...

I see a non-graphics ad from them at the bottom of the page.

Search the forums for TVA threads....negative feedback keeps bouncing up, so I think they were removed from the top...I have seen really good feedback, and negative for them...just more of the later recently...

I've got a pre-order with them as well, but i'm not so sure I am going to buy from them. While 2 other Authorized Pioneer Online Dealers have quoted me the exact same price shipped, TV Authority's current 'quoted' price is thousands more than even Best Buy's MSRP in their system of $6000. TVA keeps saying that they will have the 'real' price once the release is closer. Well, I think the release is hopefully just a few weeks away and I think it is funny how they are holding out on their price. Seems like that would only hurt their pre-order business by quoting a current price as high as they are. This along with all the negative feedback they are receiving is not sitting well with me at all. For me, I think it is going to come down to who can ship it to me first, but then again, we all know that some online dealers will lie about that....... I will be seriously pissed if I order a TV and don't receive it until a month later. If I order mine online, I will expect a tracking number within 2 business days of ordering. If that doesn't happen, then that vendor can credit my card back the full amount and i'll buy elsewhere. None of this 'wait two more days', and then two more days later, 'wait two more days' crap. No thanks.

Does anyone have an opinion as to whether or not 10-11ft viewing distance is to close for a 6070HD, which is a 768P display? Would it be better to wait and go with a 1080p set, or am I still far enough back that artifacts/etc won't be an issue?

A few days ago I just purchased the Peerless ST-670 and played with it by using it to re-hang my 50" Panny plasma . I got the ST-670 for the Pio 6070 I have on pre-order.
Me thinks the ST-670 is going to work real well with the 6070 with lots of wiggle room for any adjustments if needed.
And I never relized until this typing that the Peerless and Pio model numbers are very similar, must be a sign.

With the size of the screen combined with your viewing distance, I think you would definitely benefit from a 1080P display. I am approximately 10.5' from my 50" Fujitsu, and even at that distance with a 50" display (with a similar number of pixels as the 60 Pioneer), DVDs can look a little "shoddy" to me. What's interesting is that now that I have the 50" screen, I can easily now distinguish between well mastered DVDs and poor ones. Even my HD feeds are noticeably different. HDNet and Discovery HD (which use relatively low compression) looked fabulous, while ESPN HD and some of the others look noticeably worse due to the increased compression on the HD signal (I'm using a cable card and am getting maximum signal strength according to the Fujitsu's built in tuner so the problem is with the source). The resolution/compression of the source is really the key factor holding our displays back.

With the 60" Pioneer, just magnify what I'm seeing by 20% and that should approximate what you'll see. I was debating the 60" Pioneer (or more likely the Elite version) and am VERY glad that I stuck with the 50" Fujitsu at my 10.5' viewing distance.

I'm a pretty firm believer that we need 1080P panels in anything larger than a 55" size screen. However, the native resolution of the panel is not everything. What we really need are higher resolution SOURCEs to take advantage of these displays. The sad fact is, the only 1080P material we are going to be seeing for quite a few years is HD-DVD/Blu-Ray. It will be a long time before we start seeing 1080P Hi-Def broadcasts off of cable/satellite/TV over IP.

So I guess my advice to you is wait a little longer if you can for some 1080P panels (which are going to cost quite a bit of money at first). If not, you should still be pretty happy with the 60" Pioneer. Judging by my first viewing of the new Pioneer 5070 (which I thought was a noticeably improvement over the 5060 and now VERY close to my Fujitsu), the 6070 should be an excellent TV overall, almost certainly better than the 58" Panasonic (again, based off of my viewing of the 50" PX60s and PX600s).

I figure in two to three years, I'll be picking up a 65" 1080P (or higher) SED and relegating my "measely 768P" Fujitsu to my bedroom or den. Oh woe is me.

I was just at Worst Buy. Price on the 6071 there is now $5700, 'on sale' from $6000 through 7/29. You can pre-order. Date available is 8/15 in their computer. If history follows, Best Buy gets them first, then online retailers a week or two after.

That was a very good post. I think your conclusions are spot on. I have been having a heated debate with myself over a new display. I am moving into my newly constructed home on September 10th and have had a hell of a time picking a replacement for my 65" Mitsubishi 1080i RPTV.

I really want the TV as soon as I move in because there really is no room for the massive Mits in my nice new living room, and football season will be upon us. This led me to a couple displays:

Pioneer 6070 - 768p 60" Plasma
Sony KDS-60A2000 - 1080p 60" SXRD RPTV
Panasonic TH-65PX600 - 1080P 65" plasma

The sony is great but I want a wall mount, I dig plasma's 3d image quality and viewing angle is kind of important.

That leaves the two plasma's, and the panasonic is vaporware at the moment. There is no definitive answer to when it will be out and what it will be priced like.

My wife has freaked out that I want to spend more than $5000 on a TV but I reminded her how much the new counter tops and stainless steel appliances she just had to have costed However, I don't know if I could push that to $8000 like the panny is supposed to cost.

So really that leaves me with a 768p 60" plasma TV. Is that ok?

Well yeah, I will not be getting hd-DVD or BluRay until the war is over, and there arent any cox cable channels that will be broadcast in 1080p any time soon. Finally, in 4 years when SED is mainstream I will get a new TV anyway.

I'm assuming the 6071 will include the extra remote and anything additional the 5071 had over the 5070...

Just pre-order a 60" Pioneer (or wait for the Elite-Septemberish). You might want to see if you can increase your viewing distance to 13 or 14 feet, it should help mask some of the source material flaws. Also, when you do get a Blu-Ray/HD-DVD, it WILL look fantastic on the Pioneer. Just take the best HD feed you've seen and kick it up a bit and that should emulate HD on disc.

With your room setup and its ambient light, just be prepared for a little bit of glare off the screen. The Pioneers are about the best plasma for controlling glare, so you should be okay.

If you are 9-11 feet away, you could actually drop to a 50" screen and be pretty happy, while enjoying a slightly better overall PQ. have you considered that?

I will admit that I played Prey for the first time on my Fuji last night, and from my seating distance (about 10.5 feet), I actually could have used a little more screen size, as far away enemies were a little difficult to pick up. I'll probably end up with a gaming chair at around 8 feet from the screen for my serious gaming sessions, but HD TV and DVDs are fine from the 10.5 foot distance.
