HDTV marketshare really doesn't matter, the only thing that matters for BR and HD-DVD is total number of HDTVs, which basically defines the size of the BR/HD-DVD market.
That 35% is an estimate. The "known" values I saw were as of the start of 2006. It said 15% of US homes had a least 1 HDTV, 11% of those had more than 1, and about 50% of the HDTVs in the world were in the US.
One important peice of information that most people in this forum aren't considering: What % of people even know that DVDs are SD only? Never mind those people that bought an HDTV but don't really get a hi-def picture and have no clue that they aren't. There's still a BIG HDTV learning curve to go through for the general public.
