Your observation sounds surprising: there shouldn't be such a big difference btw boxes of the same generation, as chip voltages are the same. Unless real time signal decryption requires a lot more juice. So my concern was: if a demo Receiver runs 12/7 in a store for 6 month, and then goes on EBay due based on the Chain policy, what its expected life span is going to be? I know, some companies like HP and Apple honor warranty based on serial number. It would be nice to clarify, if Samsung does.

I'd contact Samsung on the warranty issue.

I have a Hauppauge 950, about a year old. I get pretty good reception on the PBS station (which is the one I mostly care about). Reception on most other stations leaves something to be desired. I'd upgrade if better models came out. BTW, I read in November that the Pinnacle PCTV operation was being sold to Hauppauge.

Has anyone ever figured out the cause and a solution to the problem of having this unit spontaneously add and/or lose channels?

Are the SA boxes you're talking about DVRs? That could sure explain why they run hot. If not it must be a ventilation issue. I've tried several CECBs and they can very quite a bit in how warm they get. A DS box ran very warm(plastic case and very few holes), my CMs run just warm and my Zenith runs cool. I think ventilation/design has a big thing to do with it. The Sammy has a nice metal case and plenty of ventilation holes so it doesn't run that warm.

If a station adds a subchannel, or takes one away, that would be one reason. I've never heard of or experienced it happening any other way.

Mind happen one time lost all channels and have to rescan. And last night I lost some channels for like a minute or so and came right back. The signal was good when it happen. So I didn't think it was a big deal, As long as it work.

Hi,

I just bought the Samsung HDTV Tuner DTB-H260F from Best Buy. When I set the local time, I have the Daylight Saving Time set to Yes. I live in Houston and I set the time zone to Central, but the local time always show one hour ahead of the actual time.

Is this a bug within this unit?

Anyone else experiencing this problem?

Also can this unit firmware can be update by the end-user using the USB port in the back and where can I get the firmware update ?

Thank you in advance

There is no consumer up-datable FW upgrade available. You could check your units build date which I'd guess is the latest based on your recent purchase.

Turn off the DST until DST starts.
Not a bug.
Samsung has not released any FW Updates.

It happens all the time to me. If I flip thru the channels too fast that seems to cause it. It also happens spontaneously. It drops channels I've set and adds cheannels I've deleted. Does anyone know why or what to do to stop it?

Mine has never actually added or deleted a ch, but every now and then it puts ch's into my "favorites" that I specifically excluded from "favorites".
But never the other way (removing ch's from favorites).

Why? Not a clue!

I have one of these already I been looking for an extra to hook up to my PVR anyone know where the best place to pick one of these up for the cheapest is. Any idea or links are greatly appreciated.
I got one from Amazon a couple of weeks ago. They were the cheapest and had them in stock unlike other places.

I got it for the receiverless HDTV in my bedroom. Since there's a refrigerator on the other side of the wall between it and the stations, I had to put the antenna on the floor. Now it works great.

Ya I checked Amazon all they have is used for the same price I can get a new one for so kind of a bust there. I remember when they first came out I got one from Circuit City for $130. Now I can't get one for under $150.

*IF* you can find one at a CC store it may well be 50% off now.

50% off what? The real MSRP or the liquidators inflated MSRP?

You can take your chances on Ebay, sometimes there's reasonable deals on DTB-H260F's.

Are they still making them? The places that were selling them for $130 were all out. I saw prices up to $180 so I thought I'd live with $150 from someone who actually had them in stock.

I figure HD ATSC receivers are on their way out since all HDTV's made recently have receivers and those who have the ones without wouldn't have waited this long to get one (like I did).

Dunno.

But at full MSRP of $179 you might be able to pick one up for $90. I know many are buying up another popular product at CC closing sales as mentioned in another forum. The MSRP is being used as the base price, but you have to watch the final sale figures at the checkout as the % off can deviate from the listed % off on the sign.

Bring a calculator.

The need for such boxes has always been a niche market with very few mfr's making very few models to choose from. But the reasons for needing or wanting these boxes is far more varied than just not having a DTV OTA tuner in the TV.

If all you want is OTA HD and you have an ATSC tuner in your tv then you do not "need" it. But there are other advantages to having a STB Digital HD tuner, if you need/desire these benefits:

- Some TV's do not have any tuners (like HD Monitors or projectors)
- Selectable Resolution Output to better match TV's native resolution
- Better OTA reception (varies)
- QAM tuner
- SD output to DVR
- Digital Audio (surround DD 5.1 & PLII) to your AVR
- TV lacking digital audio output to AVR (surround)
- STB location convenience: if your tv and AV gear are not right next to each other (even if your TV has digital audio output) it may not be easy to run audio back to your AVR from your TV. This comes in very handy if your AV gear is on one wall and your TV is on another wall. All AV inputs (cable, sat, OTA, DVD player, VCR, DVR, gaming console, etc...) can all be connected to a single AVR then run ONE set of cables to TV (component or HDMI).

Yeah - maybe you can get one of those hollowed out, "fake" display models.

Another use is as a 2nd HD tuner for a TV with a built in ATSC tuner for Picture-In-Picture function with the same or different antenna source.

Agreed what you said above and I have a 32" Polarid LCD with a Picture in Picture display and dual tuner NSTC and ASTC but I use the 260 as a 2nd HD tuner and I use a 2nd antenna hook to the 260, so I don't have to do rescan all the time as I have 2 different station use same DT RF 19 and they cancel out each other.

Yeah, same here. The liquidators concentrate remaining stock into the better performing stores and regions to squeeze out as much $$$ as they can.

Ah, so that would explain why they didn't have anything worth a damn in this store other than well-worn floor models when they were clearing it out.

Yup. With another popular product discussed on another forum some stores have no stock at all while other locations have tons of product.

Our CC stores in this region were picked clean before mid January.
