Do not, I repeat DO NOT count on TVs of this resolution being made! I can think of so many reasons this is totally bogus that I can't even decide where to start!
Lessee. The first problem is that even if
they make a TV of that resolution, nothing
will output that resolution to the TV... except maybe a computer. No movies, no cable boxes, no consoles, no nothing else! Everything would have to be up-converted, and that can introduce distortion and actually cause image degredation.
HDTV is just now taking off as a standard. Regular color TV stuck around for about 40-50 years, and is still going strong. The HDTV transition
will take a long time, and after that, we'll be using it for a very, very long time. A 1080p TV is going to be the standard highest HDTV resolution supported for at least 10 years, probably 20-30. There is no reason to even think about another resolution.
Add to this that standards would have to be introduced, argued over, changed, and adopted -- it's an incredibly painstaking process. I mean, HDTV alone has been in the works for like 15 years!
The only reason to wait is that TVs are improving every year. Not improving beyond 1080p, but improving in terms of price, colors, black level, pixel-per-pixel accuracy, size, etc.
As I said, you made a good choice. If you decide to wait for these higher resolution TVs, you will be waiting forever... and for no real benefit.
