Star Wars Ep3 - Funnel Sounding???

Does the opening scene of Star Wars 3:ROtS with Obi and his buddy flying in their ships around the big destroyers, and one of thedestroyers fires and destroys a smaller ship and it explodes. Sounds like it's being ( for a lack of a better term).... funneled? Very echo'ish? (maybe compressed?)Not sure if I am describing it right. I am using a Pioneer 516 and JVC Fronts. Is it the movie, my amp or the speakers(which have seen their day)??
Specs of my stuff can be seen here --> http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=713778

Thanks

There is some huge bass in that scene. The first time I played it, my sub was set a little too far up, and it made some terrible noises until I backed it down. I wonder if the bass in the scene is just too much for your speakers or amp?

Its not the bass, at least I don't think so.

It does sound funky, I kinda know what you mean by funneled, I think thats how its supposed to be as I remember being like that in the theater.

Ok so I'm not crazy then. I was thinking maybe it was because I have it recorded from my PVR. Did you listen to it from DVD?

Don't worry, that's just the sound a great original series makes when it's being flushed down the toilet. Alien 3 and 4 are the same way, I'm sure, as well as some of the later Star Trek movies...

At least that one didn't stink as much as the first 2 "prequels".

Since it's the only time I heard it, I wrote it off as intentional. Even if it's a mastering error, you can't do much about it lol.

It's not your system,it's the way the soundtrack was mixed.I saw this movie twice in two different theaters and I own the DVD and I must say that the entire soundtrack is not up to par with the rest of the series. The opening scene starts off with really, really powerful bass and then goes very flat with no punch to any of the explosions or dynamic range.Personally I think Episode II has the best mix of the new trilogy, take a listen to the opening scene and the asteroid chase and then go back to Episode III and you'll notice a big difference.

3 was pretty good and as for star trek wasn'tit mostly an even/odd and not an early/late, i mean the first one was pretty bad, as were 3 and 5....

as for the sound funnel, i haven't listened recently enough, but i think it's supposed to be that way.

i think you forgot to turn your TV speakers off, and your hearing them AND your mains.

Ugh Ep 3 had a horrible soundtrack. Thin, echoy, sibilant. It's like they almost didn't even bother. The movie itself isn't much better either...

I remember when I saw a bit of Ep. 3 on dvd and the sound definitely wasn't up to par with the first 2 sequels, it is a shame considering it's the best of the prequels.
