Official Sony XBR2 (60" & 70") Owner's Thread - Page 378

Have a failing KDS A6020 and Sony offered me the 55NX810 or a 60EX720. The 55 is too small even though its probably nicer picture than the EX. I saw the EX at Brands Mart locally and the picture looked a little washed out compared to the 55NX sitting next to it and most of the other 60" sets as well. So I have to decide quickly (they give you 1 week) whether or not to take this deal or just get a 60 or 65" set that will be superior... I was even considering taking their deal and selling the set when I upgrade to something else.

Any suggestions? Get the EX or what would be a superior choice? Doesn't have to be Sony.

I would push for the new 65". It seems like it might be a very good tv. I may push for that one myself.

My KDS-70XBR2 (I think I got that right), has started making a buzzing sound on the left side (as I look at the set). It can be stopped by a slight jiggle of the set. It usually happens when the set is on, but it has happened at least once with the set off.

Any ideas. As far as I know, this is the original lamp (I bought it open box, it was a display), and the lamp warning came on about a year ago and I have since ignored it since the picture looked fine.

the ex line is just ordinary and will not produce as good of pq as a properly functioning xbr2. i haven't seen any nx models on display, but from the posts on this forum,
it seems to be superior. so push for a 60" nx model.

If and when my offer comes in I think I may push for the HX929. I'm so frustrated that I have to shell out money for another tv.

What frustrates me is that I did a lot of research before I bought my KDS-60RXBR2 and now I won't have much say in the replacement model. I may try to push for an HX929 even if costs me a bit more.

Is that new 65 incher available now in CAN? Looks like it won't be available here 'til this Aug & no pricing info I can find. Would imagine it'll retail around $5k USD in the US.

Big IF whether, when, & for how much Sony would offer that as a replacement.

Though that would be the one they should offer as a replacement for a 60 or 70" XBR.
Yes it's the 65" I would like.

Yes, called Sony and they will give me the 929, but there is no pricing and they said the price would be high. Probably between 2-3 thousand, but that's a guess on their part.

That's good to hear.

So for me it's a decision to take the 60NX720 now or wait 'til Aug or Sep for a XBR-65HX929 for probably twice as much.

That extra 5" & XBR tech might be worth another $1 large.

I'm really torn here. The HX has back lighting which is suppose to be superior.

After emailing Evelyn at Sony, I was offered an 60NX720. After seeing a 55NX 720 next to a 60EX720 I believe the NX had a siginficantly superior picture. Of course the size difference comes into play slightly. Anyhow, I do believe I am going to take them up on the offer. I need a new TV and I can either pay 2 to 3 times the price for a slightly better set ie bleeding edge technology or get a perfectly satisfactory set for a great price.

Thank you Evelyn. Apparently Sony DOES listen!

All I can say is that I'm impressed with Sony's level of customer service so far.

It's been a very good experience.

Thanks Sony!

How much time elapsed before they got back to you. I e-mailed "Evelyn" a few days ago.

Thanks.

By the way, I tried the Facebook route in April and no one from Sony ever got in touch with me.

If I may, how much did they ask for the 60NX720?

No picture on my KDS-R60XBR2.
Green light for a few secs then 4 red light flashes cycling on and on.
Already replaced the optical block under warranty before that wore out (at least 4 years ago). Was and probably still getting a lamp replacement message for last month and I haven't replaced the lamp yet (do have an extra lamp).

So wondering if it might be the lamp (lamp light on front not on) or something else?

Been pondering getting a new set and this might push me in that direction if repair is costly.

Email sent to Evelyn, I hope to finally put this behind me.

Four flashes means:

Fan error:
-Fan power is not supplied.
-Fan connector is not attached securely.

Your tv has several fans, and if the tv senses one of them has failed, it will not turn on. Could also be so clogged with dust that it won't turn, I've seen them this bad. Should not be an expensive fix, as tv work goes.
It's likely the big fan opposite the power button. It's about $25. Gotta take off the back panel, metal weight brace, unclip some wires and that's about it. Should be able to find the fan part number by searching this thread.

Im trying to take a picture of my screen to send to Sony. Not sure what to take a picture of to best show the green tint. I can get to a blank white screen which shows the green tint on the upper half of the screen. I can see the flesh tones yellowish green on the screen with a show on but pictures don't seem to show it as much... Is the pic of the white blank good? Or should I send both?

I used a black & white dvd copy of Citizen Kane with the sled scene. I was able to freeze the picture and got a good copy. I also e-mailed the picture to make sure it was adequate for Sony's purposes. No problem- enjoying my 55nx810. Good luck

Email the photo, don't print it. They will accept it.

I had the same issue. It was a small fan. Mine was the one contained in a black (I think) housing which was easy to disassemble and replace. Do not have a tech do it as it will cast 6X more. I think my fan was $15-$25... It was a year ago so I cannot remember the exact details.

They told me to photograph a regular picture, not a white screen.

If you have a camera with automatic white balance correction, you will need to turn that feature off.

I used the grey scale test pattern on the DVE blu-ray I have when I submitted my picture and had no problem. You will get a different answer from everyone you talk to, but in reality, if the picture you take shows the problem then they will accept it. I had my Canon set to "auto" with flash on and off when I took pictures from several angles. When I looked at them on the computer, the picture that showed the defect the best was one from a slight angle(70 degrees maybe) and with the flash on.
