They reversed themselves. The facebookpage is back up and they are making offers again.

The guy who first posted in this thread about the facebook page going down now says (on his info page) that the offers that they are making are not as good as they had been making. He didn't post any recent offers.

I know for sure that they are following up on all offers that they made before the temporary closing at the end of the business day on October 27. I accepted an offer that afternoon, then sent in my documentation. My new set was shipped one week later.

Compared to $5999 or about $5300 at a great discount, I would have to say thats a wonderful deal. Don't forget the original warranty and even the settlement extended warranties are long expired. I paid less a few weeks ago, but I would take that deal if it were the only one I could have. The XBR65 is truly awesome and my set has none of the problems the smaller XBR's exhibited. If you get one I'm sure you will be more than pleased.

If you aren't tied to Sony, the Sharp 70" can be found for $2599 easily. I replaced my XBR2 with the Sharp and I'm very happy.

I have now got my 65hx929 as a replacement for my 70" sxrd and I must say its a beautiful display and a worthy upgrade. The drop in size was noticeable at first but after a few hours of viewing it wasn't an issue. Blacks are superior, as are colours, sharpness and finally no overscan for gaming. I am also enjoying 3d on movies and pc gaming.

What did they charge you? They wanted $4200.00 from me.

£2,500 as I am in the UK which is around $4,000. Sony took into account that I paid only £2,200 for the 70" SXRD, UK retail price was £5,000 on release.

Received my 65hx929 replacement. Not 70" but superior picture quality. I used the settings someone posted here and it looks amazing. Overall very pleased with Sony.

As the one on this thread who probably had the most replacements done, I can confirm this. I finally got one that seemed about perfect maybe a year and a half ago, but it's also pretty visibly off at this point. They simply don't last.

Very glad I got a trade for a 65" LCD last year. Sad my TV is effectively out of warranty now, though, since it's still a pretty awesome TV aside from the discoloration. I might do one of the third-party OB rebuilds until I can decide on what set I want next.

Well the inevitable finally happened to me on my 70XBR2. Green and lots of it.

I followed the great information on this thread and I've received the following offers:

KDL55EX500 $675.00 + local sales tax
KDL60EX720 $1375.00 + local sales tax

It seems I'm being punished for having an optical block last an abnormally long time. Any thoughts or ideas about getting a better offer?

Thanks.

I had the 70 XBR2 also. When talking with Sony ask them for the XBR65HX929 they should offer you that when asked!

Post back when they do, because they will!

And don't for an EX at the very least take the NX.

I was also offered the same deal as you and have not decided what to do. I feel the same way you do about being penalized. I am curious as to what they will offer you on your next request, please keep us posted. Thank you

Micro,

I also have a 70XBR2 and requested the XBR65hx929 as you did and was told NO WAY. How long ago did you get your offer? If I might ask, what price? Thanks

I received my offer in the mail back in May opted to wait for the HX and at the time they offers EX720 for $952 and the NX720 for $1248 CDN taxes in. The HX was $4200.00 and I'm not going down that road again given that the set still has some minor issues. I viewed both side by side and I fail to see a $3000.00 difference.

I settled back in May also. This is what I was initially offered:
KDL55HX800 $400.00 + local sales tax
kDL60NX720 for $1050 + local sales tax

I barked a little more (nicely of course) and finally received this offer:
XBR55HX929 for $1162+local sales tax

I found that calling the sony cares number did not do much for me. I ended up using facebook (several people did this in the past) and that worked better for me.

Go for the HX929 if at all possible. It is a very good TV. I am pleased (except it is 55" and not 65") but there were no offers on the 65" at that time.

Good luck

Did they bump you up to the higher level support? If not, ask for that. The first level only offers the lower quality sets.

When I said I was interested in the HX929 (as replacement for my 60XBR2) they told me that only higher level support could offer that and put me right through. I began the process on October 24, just before the temporary halt. I paid $2275.00 plus tax for the 65HX929.

I was courteous with them and they were professional and courteous with me throughout. Once I sent the documentation, the shipped the set quickly.

Offers are said to be worse since the shutdown and restart of the program but I haven't seen spacifics.

Yes, I did ask, I was put on hold for some time and sent up to "level2" and was still told NO WAY to get the XBR65HX929 even though I am an 70XBR2 owner, this happened within the past two weeks. I mentioned people on this board were offered the 65HX929 and they said they could not offer it?? I would gladly pay what you did for that set and be happy to have it. Do you remember the person you were dealing with? Were you dealing only by phone or by Facebook as well? Thanks for your help.

It surprizes me how much more Sony Canada wanted for the 65HX than Sony US. For me the premium for the 65HX over the 60NX was $1240.00. I figure the size difference is worth most of that.

I also wouldn't have paid a $3000.00 premium.

Could have been because I only had a 60 SXRD and you had the 70.

No, I had a 60 also. If my memory is correct (questionable), I think I've seen some quotes from other Canadian SXRD owners that were similar to yours.

One could say that there are other advantages to living in BC that more than compensate.

They say that is all they have in thier "replacement program" warehouse and the above 2 models are all they can offer.

Can anyone help me out? Thanks!!

Good luck. I tried and they repeatedly said no concerning that price.

Greetings. Hoping you guys can give me some advice or opinions. I have a 60inch XBR2 that is currently working perfectly and although I dont know how many hours of view time it has I would imagine its not all that much. It seems the optical block problem with eventually strike this set but so far so good. I actually WANT the optical block problem to strike and here is why....

We want to buy a new (thin) TV ASAP as my wife is not a fan of the rear projection. That being said we would obviosuly get a much better deal if I had the optical block problem to call sony with and negotiate on a new set. So that leaves me with a few questions.

1. Whats the approx going rate for my current XBR2 60" set in perfect working condition with a stand and extra replacement lamp?

2. Reason I ask the above question is I'm trying to determine if selling it might be "almost as good" if I got say $500 cash for it as compared to savings on taking one of their current settlement offers

3. Is there any way to bring on the optical block problem faster? Leave the set on all day / night? does it typically happen at a certain "hours of viewing" point?

4. Will sony negotiate if I am honest and tell them the TV is currently fine but we all know its a matter of time before it goes?

Thoughts? Thanks in advance.
