it probably wont effect you at all. it most likely will be seen as a trade in and an upgrade.same as if there was nothing wrong with the xbr1 and you just decided you wanted an xbr2 and traded up to the newer model.

let us know what sony says though. i'm sure they'll wiggle out of whatever they can.

I can't get closed-captions to show up on my TV. The input is an SA8300HD cable box. When this box is hooked to another TV via S-Video I can see the captions, however when hooked to the XBR2 via HDMI I see nothing. I tried all the different options in setup and nothing works. BTW, I actually have both TVs hooked up at the same time, and I am able to see captions on S-Video but not HDMI, so I know that the program is carrying the signal.

So what's the magic to get this to work? Preferably I'd like to have the captions show up only when the TV is muted.
I've got my 8300 connected via component . i have no trouble getting CC. however you have to turn on CC in the cable box menu not on the TV. the TV menu CC does nothing unless i connect cable straight to the TV.
in my situation i change channels on the cable box but change volume on the TV. because the cable box isn't controlling volume there is no way to get CC on at mute of the TV. i don't believe this is an issue with the TV. i believe in order to get on with mute you have to control volume with the box and mute the box. do you have SARA, Passport, or Navigator software in your 8300? if anything i said doesn't help perhaps folks in one of the 8300hd threads can help. there is one for each software version.

EDIT
i just reread you post. i don't know why you'd be getting CC over svid but not hdmi. still check out the 8300 threads though. its a little busier than this one maybe you'll get more help. i still don't think its a TV issue though. but i could be wrong.

EDIT2
just did a search of the 8300hd SARA thread for closed caption. i didnt read everything but the first hit taught me that there is different formats for CC. an analog and a digital. perhaps if you have the box set to analog CC it wont transmit over digital hdmi. sounds like you have to send digital CC over the digital cable. this could explain why you see CC on svid but not HDMI.

via HDMI (or component) you have to access the CC through the cable box.
Thanks, strutter. I assumed it was a TV thing because one TV gets CC and the other doesn't. But as you point out maybe it has something to do with digital HDMI. I'll check out the 8300 threads.

BTW, I have the Passport version.

Dang. That's lame. And I did verify that enabling CC via the cable box works, as it should. But unfortunately it won't give me the "CC when muted" feature.

Thanks.

correct. as i said in my reply . you have to control CC through the 8300 menu. the CC menu on the TV does nothing in this setup. if you control the volume with the cable box you will be able to have on with mute via the box menu.

you would think that since the CC info is always there encoded in the program that it would pass through the box and allow you to turn it on via the TV menu. but it don't work that way.

my wife is has really bad hearing. even utilizing her FM transmitter we still need to use CC most of the time. its real simple to turn CC on an off in passport. i went through the CC options menu and found that my making the font smaller and removing the block background i can leave CC on most of the time and it not bother me. set to standard for some reason my eyes are just drawn to the CC. and i cant enjoy the show.

if in your search you find a way to control CC via the TV please post back.

i frequent the SARA and Passport threads...see you there.

I read a few posts on the Passport thread and it looks like CC simply isn't passed via HDMI. That's too bad. Thanks for your help.

Quick question about TV settings for watching sports. Movies on my 60xbr2 look absolutely phenomenal. (Both DVD's and HD DVD's) Live sports look good, but I'm thinking they can look better. Does anybody use different settings on their tv for watching sports?

In my case, Sony was backordered on the OB's for the XBR1's. I waited for 1.5+ months before Sony decided to replace. I did upgrade my 60" to a 70XBR2 by paying the difference, so how will this class-action impact me???

I also got the same e-mail WaldorfSalad has posted above.

HELP!!!!! How can I make sure Sony does not wiggle out for giving me the run-around for 3 months before they agreed to the upgrade??

if they replaced your xbr1 with the xbr2 straight up but you opted to upgrade to to 70" and pay the premium for that then i dont see it affecting you either. however i'm not a lawyer and am only expressing it the way i see it. i could be very wrong.

Lets see if I have this correct. You swapped out your 60XBR1 for a 70XBR2. The 70XBR2 was obviously more expensive than 60XBR2 but, you wanted more screen and was happy to pay the difference instead of taking an even swap for the 60XBR2 and Sony said sure why not. Now you want more money for your pain and suffering of having to wait 3 months for an OB. Where is Sony wiggling now?

My recomendation is to set back, put in a favorite movie, open a cold one and be happy I don't see where you were not taken care of by sony.

Wait and see what happens like I plan to do. I paid $750 to upgrade from the 50" XBR1 to the 60" XBR2 after two failed OB's. As I read it, I will get a refund of that amount. This will make my wife happy as she was irked about paying the fee.

If you got the same email as me, more than likely they will also refund your money but you'll have to wait at least until February to find out.

Does anyone know if the KDSR60-XBR2 switches the audio coming in on the HDMI ports to the digital out (optical) port? I'm wondering if I can just have 1 cable going to my A/V receiver from the digital out of the TV and have the audio from my PS3 and satellite receiver switched coming in the HDMI ports? Anyone done this? Any input is appreciated.

Thanx,
Bo

Sorry, but the digital out is only connected to the OTA and cable inputs.

I have a Sony KDS-R70XBR2 TV. I just got a Sony BDP-S500 and it mentions that this Bluray player is capable of outputting 1080/24p if the TV monitor is capable of handling that. Is the KDS-R70XBR2 TV 1080/24p capable?

Thanks

Is there a shortcut key to the HDMI 7 and 8? The macro I created for my remote takes longer to cycle through the inputs than I would prefer.
Hi DCIFRTHS,

We brought the KDSR60XBR2 in March and we had the exact problem with the irregular yellow stain yesterday without any prior sympton. I let the TV run for one hour and turned it back on. The yellow stain was gone.

I could not find any posting from you after your intial posting. So I am wondering did you have to do anything or call Sony for service to correct the problem?

I saw that Al also had the same issue with the yellow stain.

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi Mormeg,

I received my XBR2 also around March/April. Mine is not so much of a yellow stain as it is yellowing in skintones and the rest of the colors look washed out. If I try to adjust the color I just can't get it right any more. Seems to start after being on for about 30 minutes.

I have a RMTP1, it is from my secondary receiver, Sony STR-DA7ES. It is also a learning remote. There is not a button on the actual XBR TV remote that will change to those two HDMI inputs directly is there?

i know nothing about that remote RMTP1.

no i dont believe there is a direct button on the remote. only the one that cycles through the inputs. however, if i can tell my harmony to go directly to an input that means the direct code is there and the tv accepts it. possibly someone over at www.remotecentral.com can help find the code for you if someone else here doesnt know.

Hi albotti,

I have tried different ways to recreate the yellow stain without success. It happened one night out of blue. The yellow stain I saw was like the dairy cow patches all over the display, but it is yellow. It seemed that my problem is different from yours.

I was hoping to get some feedback from DCIFRTHS. He described exact my problem. I searched the thread, and could not find any discussion on yellow stain.

I have had this happen a couple of times when I turn my tv on. It goes away a few minutes later. Has anyone ever seen this before?

I traded my 50 xbr1 in after three light engine replacements for a 60 sxrd2. The last few days the skin tone is very yellowish also. Doesn't seem to be patches but just the skin. Does anybody have idea on what settings i might try to clear this up some. Does not seem as bad in hd but sd is terrible.

Hi PC,

Mine gets worse when it's on a few hours so setting changes in my case don't seem to work long. I used the same settings for months and it was perfect till the problem started. Now I have tried minor tweaks but after a few hours it will be either to red or washed out.

i wonder if these issues could be caused by dust inside the set?

has anyone called for service yet?

Hope everyone is satisfied with their XBR2's. I just heard from my Sony Rep that Sony is out of the rear projection business and will only be making LCD and Plazma's.
