I dunno....I love Dexter as much as anybody, but stringing things along doesn't sit well with me.

Agree as well. The concept is really pretty well played out by now. 'Dexter' has done its bit for Showtime's fortunes, now it's time to call it a day and wrap it up before they overstay their welcome like another show filmed in Miami, 'Burn Notice'. Apparently, USA Network is going to wring the last possible dime out of that one even though it should logically have ended several seasons ago.

When "Dexter" started up again last fall at the end of September I signed up for Showtime again at $10 a month for 12 months. Does anyone really pay full price for the premiums anymore? biggrin.gif

The move to June is great. I am thinking this is going to be it, Maybe extending the Season from 12 episodes or a 90 minute/ 2 hour finale. I don't think they will go for Season 9. I read the head Producer said she always thought 7 seasons was what they needed so 8 was doable. Can it happen, sure. But go out on top.
I read yesterday the idea behind the June startup date is to have Dexter help launch a new and unrelated series for Showtime.

We can only hope. I love 'Dexter', but it's about time to send the show to sleep with the fishes, tastefully tied up in hefty bags.

Exactly.
The show, and the fate of its characters, needs to be put away.

OTOH, I wouldn't mind a spin off with Angel and Vince in some capacity....
Maybe Angel could become a private dick and Vince could go private too?

I wouldn't mind seeing the Dexter series wind up too, but will be p*ssed if the series finale has a guy in a Members Only jacket.smile.gif

The only way Dexter can go on is out of Florida LE. He can go on the run, join another unit maybe even a cross country killing spree. And I'm not even thinking out of the box. It either ends this year or there are some fundamental changes imo.
Dexter is the only new show that I follow on regular basis so I'm going miss it. Well Homeland but that's getting old fast.

Yeah, I think so too.

One other thing I read there would be some twist regarding the way Dexter's mother died in that Box. Maybe Harry having more involvement. I always thought Harry could be Dexter's real Father but I think they closed that up somehow. Either way the writers haven't let us down as far as surprises go, so I have faith Justice will be done, no pun intended.

They already went down that road. Dexter, in season 1, took a sample from his dead father and compared it to his own and was told it was a match.

The Harry part was my 2cents. The twist regarding Dexter and how he got to the box is supposed to be part of season 8. I'll go over and get the link where I read this.

I hate when something gets stuck in my head and I don't remember where I heard/read it from. Part or all of what I had read came from a Scott Buck interview. Regarding going over how Dexter was found or his origins. I can't find the exact article but this is some of it.

Sean P Flannery was great in The Boondock Saints.

TV Notes
Les Moonves: 'Last' Season for 'Dexter'
By Lesley Goldberg, The Hollywood Reporter's 'Live Feed' Blog - Mar. 4, 2013

Season eight of Showtime's Dexter may officially be its last.

Speaking to analysts at a Wall Street conference Monday in Palm Beach, Fla., CBS Corp. CEO Les Moonves indicated that the serial killer drama will wrap its run following the upcoming eighth season.

Asked by an analyst -- who implied that the Michael C. Hall-Jennifer Carpenter drama was in its last season -- what was in the pipeline for the CBS Corp.'s sibling cable network Showtime, Moonves may have let the cat out of the bag.

"We have Ray Donovan coming on with Liev Schreiber, which comes on with Dexter's last season starting in June and then we have Masters of Sex," Moonves replied with a laugh as if to acknowledge something that Showtime has yet to do.

Showtime executives have been mum on what the future holds for Dexter. A spokesperson for the network told The Hollywood Reporter late Monday that there was "nothing confirmed" about if the series could and would continue beyond season eight.

Showtime will use Dexter -- which was renewed a year ago for seasons seven and eight -- as a launching pad for Ray Donovan, moving up its premiere from fall to summer for the first time come June.

Paul Bond contributed to this report.

See the bold parts. I thought all we knew was "rumors", "speculation", and "talk" about it.

Then again, what's with all this "may" talk?

I would think if it was definitive there wouldn't be an issue for the may part. You would simply just state "Officially be its last."
