PANASONIC 65" 1080p PLASMA (TH-65PX600U) Owners Thread - Page 24

Mines coming in on saturday.
I struggled with the decision a long time too. Its a lot of money, and the price will come down over the year. But if you keep waiting for the next thing, then you will never get anywhere!
This TV to me is a good investment because it is a 'flagship' model so they probably have invested a little extra into it. It is 1080p so it will not be immediately out of date in a year or two when all plasmas and LCD's are 1080p. It is bigger than almost everything out there.
The only real comparable right now is the Pioneer Elites 60", but it is almost the same amount of money, and not 1920x1080.

I will let you know when I get it if I am happy with purchase.

Just so everyone is aware, I found out the hard way that the Vantage Point U70 DOES NOT fit this TV. The bolt pattern on the back of the TH65PX600U is just too wide, and the bars are too short.
This despite a recommendation of this mount from a very reputable company. Obviously they have not mounted many of these 65" Pannys.

Anyway, anyone planning to wall mount should realize that this TV has very wide bolt patterns on the back (43" apart!), and many mounts cannot fit it. The Sanus mount VMPL3 I beleive will fit, but needs an adapter plate.
the VMPL3 should come with the adapter plate. Look at the online instructions for the VMPL3 and you'll see that it's now comes with the plate. Maybe it was an option before?
Well I fabricated some pieces of steel to allow mounting my panny on the U70 mount that doesn't fit. Got it hanging on the wall. Boy it is a heavy beast. You definately need several people to mount it.

Wow! What a picture. My HD channels are just incredible. This TV definately has not disappointed me. Even sitting 6 feet away I cannot see any pixels.
The blacks are very good, and even without any tweaking the picture looks awesome in vivid mode. Definatley recommend. It is nice to have a front HDMI and a card reader on the front of the TV as you wouldn't want to be taking it down very often.

It comes with an adapter plate but does it come with the VMXA1 extension as mentioned in the very first post of this thread?

In the picture menu their are 2 or 3 settings for Noise Reduction (NR), such as Mosquito NR, and Block NR, and I think one other.
Should I leave these on or off?
What is peoples advice about color temp? I have read that other Panny models should be in 'warm' mode, but I have tried this and it makes my picture look yellow. Normal, or even 'cool' looks better.
Should I have color management on or off?
Finally, I have toggled the 3:2 Pulldown option on and off while viewing 1080i material and really do not notice ANY difference. Does this option work or am I missing something.

Regarding the Vantage Point U70 mount and the TH65PX600U

Out of the box this mount WILL NOT fit the 65" Pannys, however Vantage Point has some adapter brackets that WILL allow this mount to fit the 65" wide bolt pattern.

You must however get this from Vantage Point (at no cost). Call the 1-800 number and they will send it to you free of charge (I got it 48 hours after calling).
There is no info about this on their website, and these adapter brackets are NOT included with the mount when you purchase it (nor will they be in the near future).

The U70 is a very nice mount, with a locking feature on it so it is a nice option, now that they have an adapter for the 65".

You will love this set. I have had mine for 5 months & feel it is a great investment since I use this more than a car. Even though it takes almost 700 watts of juice to run it, it is still cheaper than gas. Also you are correct wait too long and we might not even be here to enjoy it LOL!

Well, it's been over a month since anyone has posted. Must be really enjoying the Plasma, I know I am.

Just thought Id post an update on the clicking noise, kind of sound like when you turn the TV on, except it's when I'm watching it. I think it must be a thermostatically controlled fan that a relay is turning on and off making the noise. I don't notice it that much, but it does seem to be happening more frequently.

Having 1080 resolution rather than 720 finally available via plasma - it's always needed to be via CRT before - must be a really intoxicating experience!

I'm pretty sure it has been determined (from users with other models) that the clicking that occurs when the set is off is related to the TV Guide function.

For me, it occurs at almost exactly the same time every day, 5:39 PM, and even switched with daylight savings time.

But I guess your clicking is when the set is on, eh?
Yeh,

It is happening when the TV is on at no specific time. It only noticed it a couple of times a while back when it was off, and it seemed to be at the same time.

This set is able to pass the 24p (frames x second)?? I tried with the ps3 with the 1.90 firmware but the display goes black when tou force the 24p.

No, it can handle 1080P60 but not 24.
I know this thread is pretty much dead, but I thought I would chime in anyways. They recently held what is called the Canada Winter Games here in the Yukon, and the government ordered 8 of these TV's to use for the 2 weeks that the games were going on. After the games were over, the TVs went back to the electronics store. I bought one for about $3500 under MSRP before GST and 5 year warranty for a TV that is 2 weeks old... however, upon unpacking the TV I realised that it was brand new! I can say that as much as this price is close to what etailors are selling it for, for the farthest point north in Canada that this is an unbelieveable price.

I have a chance to purchase this set and was wondering if it was worth buying? Still brand new in box.
martin,

So I take it that you're not going to call the store and tell them that they sent the wrong one?

For some reason I hadn't noticed this question until just now.

But, yes, I would jump on it.

I haven't really been keeping up with the lastest news but I don't think another 65" model is due until this time next year.

Last I checked the Panasonic TH-65PZ750U was due to be released in the next few months. MSRP $8,999.

You can order this TV now from various places. I have not had a chance to see it yet in person.

Just ordered mine (TH65PZ750U) from this place in Chicago, they told me they just got them in and was gonna ship tomorrow. The guy told me i should have it by the end of next week here in New York. Cant wait. I called everywhere and they were the first ones to have it.
Please come back and post here and let us know what you think of the image quality especially compared to the 58" Panasonic 750U or the Pioneer Kuro's. I am thinking about buying the 65" 750U also and would love to have an actual owner's feedback.
I have both. Well, I have had the TH-65PX600U since they came out and I just set up my Pioneer PRO-150FD on Sunday Morning. My out of the box comparisons of the Pio is that it has obviously blacker blacks and better shadow detail. While obvious on many scene comparisons, I don't consider that difference to be as significant as I had thought it would be. Which at this point is a dissapointment to me. and I am a Pioneer display guy. In all fairness I have not yet had time to tweak or make any adjustments to the 150FD. I have been comparing it to the 600U in like modes. (Vivid vs Dynamic, Std vs Std,etc.) I have noticed that the color in the Pio appears more intense, however not always as accurate as on the Panny. One of the things that tended to bug me about the Panny was that certain scenes would look washed out to me. I was expecting that to be different with the Pio, but if the shot looked washed out on the Panny, it also looked similarly washed otut on the Pio. I was watching the Titans/Saints game on ESPN HD last night, and stunning content looked stunning on both sets. The most obvious difference occured with the long pans of the New Orleans skyline at night, they looked richer, deeper and less grey than on the Panny. Obviously at this level of performance, content is still king. I will post again, after I have had time to play with the settings on the Pioneer. However for right now I find myself prefering additional 5" real estate offered by the 65" Panny

(Cross posting this here as well as other forum in case you did not see my post in the other thread)

Ok, I called up my local Magnolia HiFi and they said they had just received the 65PZ750U. I rushed down there yesterday to see it. When I got there, they didn't even have a signal to it yet, it was just out of the box.

So I asked them to set it up next to the 60" Pioneer 150HD (Kuru) which is the other set on my short list.

Right out of the box, uncalibrated the picture was absolutely amazing! Even the employees were saying how good it was and they were all surprised. No one expected it to be that great. It looked as good as the Pioneer, with the advantage of the bigger screen.

After about an hour of extended viewing, my thoughts were that the Pioneer had very slightly better blacks, but it was so close that it didn't really factor into the picture quality. We were watching Monday night football on the DirecTV feed, so you got some compression left overs from DirecTV HD - lite, but both sets showed it the same amount.

After watching this set, I now have made up my mind. I'm going for it, no longer need to worry about whether I'm giving up picture quality for size. This set rocks, very very impressive picture quality.

I would jump at it. My local Best Buy/Magnolia (Orlando, FL) has the 750u at roughly $9k for the TV and $1k for the stand. Another thread dealing with the 750u vs. the equivilent commercial unit has comments from a guy who owns both a 600u and the 750u saying the PQ is the same. I bought my 65" 600u in 11/06 and paid ~ $10k including a commercial stand which was all that was available at the time.

I just found out it was open box, Im not a huge fan of open box, the warranty is good but I've had horror stories with getting stuff repaired or replaced, future shop has horrible customer support up here in canada, the 4300 includes 4 years extended warranty. Also they claim its open box, for all I know it could have been a demo model thats been on for 15 hours a day for 500 hours.
I personally would pass on almost any open box sale.
I would go for it. I paid $US9,000 and about $US800 for the stand. It is a great TV.
Very happy with it. Just bought the new Panasonic BD30 Blu Ray Player and it
works very well with the set. The picture is outstanding. Really get true 1080P picture.
Just watched Prison Break Blu Ray disc in 1080P. Huge difference than watching FOX in
720P. One thing about the TH65PX600U is that it only displays 1080P at 60 MH. You need a Blu Ray Player that displays 1080P at 24/60 MH. Not 24 MH. The Panasonic BD30 player displays at 24/60. No HD DVD players display at 24/60. Only at 24. The LG BH100 multi player only displays at 24. I bought an LG BH100 player and am using it on my NEC 61" plasma that only displays at 1080i.

You have the four year warranty. I have never had any problem with my TH65PX600U. Purchased January 2007. That price is very good. Go for it.

I also have a NEC 61XM2PA/S plasma which I purchased in February 2004. Never had one problem with that.

The plasma sets are much better than the Sony LCDs. I also own a 23" Sony Bravia LCD.
