MSRP? My guess is 6K. We shall see. Serious Pioneer competitor?!
Checking the specs in the manual: the TH-50PHD9UK is 81.6 lbs, the 1080p TH-50PF9UK is 92.6 lbs or 11 lbs heavier. Perhaps the weight of all those extra pixels?
Seriously, I would guess is that the extra weight is due to new control electronics which will be shrunk in weight and size for the Series 10 and 2007 consumer models.
Pioneer FHD1 competitor? For sure.
Interesting find. If the manual is already on Panasonic's website, the release can't be that far off. Panasonic is introducing the 1920x1080 resolution 50" model faster than I would have expected given how long it has taken for the 1080p 65 models to get to the US from their introduction in Japan in fall of 2005. Perhaps Panasonic had to get production volume up and reject rate & costs down bfore they could ship worldwide with the 1080p models. With the 46" and bigger 1080p LCD flat panels finally entering the marketplace in sufficient quantities that one can actually see them at the local B&M store, Panasonic is likely accelerating their roll-out of of 1080p (display resolution) plasmas down to 50".
I have a TH42PHD7UY. It will be hard to resist stepping up to a 1080p 50" plasma before the next gen 1080p Panasonics and Pioneers hit in mid to later 2007 with big price drops from the 1080p models we are getting this year. Pioneer has already dropped the price on their 50" FHD1 from $10K to $8K.
