or at least by monday since they don't do saturday delivery....trust me, i tried!

Vanns.com

In Stock....Well, now that it's posted...not for long

Like Vanns, i'm keeping my fingers crossed that they've figured out what went wrong with the Sammy....

I don't buy the whole "noise reduction" solution....

I still have my dvd-rp82....I gotta give Panny a whirl...

Have fun!

I must admit, the thought of having it next week guaranteed was too good too pass up....I've dealt w/ vann's before...They were reliable and the return policy is absolute! Problem is, i'm across the country, so ups ground is 6 days...had to pay to play....

hope the picture is sharp! i can't wait to load up dinosaur, which is the reason i bought the unit in the first place.

C'mon this is one of those times when you gotta say...."yes..i'm going to pay to play!" do it! do it!

if you don't like it....it goes right back! go for it!

For $999 I might try it, but it is more than that. Ill let someone else try and they can report back that the image quality is very similar to the Samsung.

lol

You don't think they will actually admit that, do you?
I think it depends on who purchases the unit. I expect fair comparisons from people on this board. I have not seen the Panny in action, but I cannot imagine significant picture changes since these are still 1st gen units and the Samsung looks great playing Warner titles.
the problem is not the Samsung player but partially the NR stuff

I want the Panny bad, but find it hard to justify almost 2.5x the Samsung price, which is just stupid, I gladly buy gear, and never complain about prices, but BR peeps must be on crack to think they are going to get anywhere with 1300$ players, 800$ 900$ maybe even 1000$ is ok with me but that is pushing it

if Samsung releases a firmware update I will prolly just grab one of them for under 600$ ;)

Gary,

Interesting point.

I am interested in hearing comparisons between the FW-upgraded Samsung and the Panasonic.

I am kind of assuming that anything bought this year will not last too long so I don't want to spend too much.

I have seen 2 Samsung's and I believe the change is so minor that its not worth noting. The Warner titles looked great on both units... I do agree about the price. It is going in the wrong direction.

I AM going to try a refurb Sammy, because I need to check it out for myself, unless I can score a Panny cheaper than retail which is doubtful

I really cant imagine it being that much better myself either. I only have one Warner title for my Sammy BD player which is Corpse Bride and it looks fantastic. I really do believe Blu-Rays launch woes were just poorly compressed shoddy transfers.
TOTS, Stealth, SWAT, & Into the Blue look about as good as any HD title & they're MPEG2 on a BD25 while XXX and Fifth Element exhibit moments of greatness but many many moments of mediocrity. I think they are just catching up on the curve. The PCM soundtracks should have been dropped in favor of pic quality in those first few launch titles. I guess alot will be answered next Tuesday when Click hits on the first BD50. Cant wait.

I got one of the more recent Samsung players and so far, I have to say that I am quite happy with it. My friend got "S.W.A.T." today and put it on for us to look at when we got back to his house. I thought it looked great.

Can't wait for Black Hawk Down.

Yeah, SWAT is a pretty looking BD title for sure. I own almost all the Warner titles on HD-DVD but I thought I would give Corpse Bride a tryout. It's not the player it is definitely the early software. I second that Black Hawk Down!! One of the BD titles actually has a trailer for it in Hi-def. Looks good and will only look better on a BD50 as those trailers get the least amount of attention when being transferred sometimes.

I'm thinking about doing the same Gary. Then I'll pick a better player out in another year or so.

sounds good rider ;) I will be ordering mine in a day or so, I already have "Tears" waiting and anxiously await the Sammy firmware

I can't sit idle while some of my favorite movies are released on BR, I am not a pathetic "camp" fanboy, I am a "I enjoy HD movies in my HT" fanboy, bottom line :)

I HEAR YA!!! ;)

Man, I thought this thread set "Got" instead of "Get".

Let's hear from someone who actually has the unit in hand. It would great if someone with the cash to spare actually had the Samsung and the Panny to compare.

We have a couple on order and of course, have the Samung. Anyone heard any news on Samsung firmware upgrade? Hate to have to buy another Samsung just to get the upgrade...

Call up Samsung, go to level 2 support and ask for the disc. I hear there are actually 2 discs - one for the DTS and one for BD-J.

If Panny is being shipped why no info at BB of CC on this??
^ The Panny is being carried at Magnolia. You won't often find Magnolia product lines at the general BB website.
