Yes, the 9UK is a bit more complicated to get it as a regular TV but in my case, I know I want to build a HTPC down the road. Right now, I would simply use it with a HD TIVO box. For me, the 6U, 60U or even 600U are ugly sets and this alone is a good reason not to buy them. When I buy something that expensive, I like to be "wowed" and excited about it (yeah yeah
) and the "wow" factor is not there with the consumer models. I really like how the "industrial" model looks, sleek, pure and elegant. Until I came here over avs forums, I was not aware about those models. I kept seeing those "Panny 9UK" threads without even being able to find them on Panasonic website so I am glad I came here. One other important feature to me is 1:1 pixel mapping and I know that the professional versions do it, while the consumer don't. I cannot convince myself plunking 2500$CAD in a TV set knowing that it won't be able to do what I would like it to do.
As for the comment on the 2007 models. I personnally don't like how they look. Despite being similar to Pro look, I just don't like the glossy bezel like the PIO (no flame here, only personnal taste). Primary reason I don't want to wait is well, I am simply fed up of waiting, and waiting and waiting for the next big thing. I am still using my old 21" Sony KV-20S20 trinitron since 9 years and despite its age, it is still going strong but time has come for retirement. You know, having a 21" TV in a living room in a house is, well, humm, cheap.. This is the first TV I purchased when I was beginning working after college, when I was 23 yo..
Heck, my computer monitor is bigger than my TV (Dell 2407WFP), what a shame hehe.
Also, as with newer models come the price tag. I think I prefer purchasing something like the 50PH9UK now and then, next year, after a second generation of 1080P monitor, price will come down again and screen will be bigger for the money, then I would upgrade to something newer. As I've said, I would love to get the 50PF9UK but for twice the amount paid for the PH9UK, I cannot convince myself to jump on this despite how kick ass it is. Also, this will be my first HD set so I will consider this purchase as way to fiddle with HD, resolution, HTPC, etc. This is pretty much like when you buy your first house, you don't know what you need until you live in a house. Then after time, your tastes refine along your needs.
Now, I am in shopping mode. I have verified with local vendor and they are able to sell me this plasma. Since I am located in Canada, I have to live with the unjustified inflated price compared to US. [EDIT]. Plus, you in the US have the free 5 years warranty promotion, which we don't have here
Damn you Panasonic for this. Hey, it is the same TV set after all.
BTW, nice pictures Cheez!
