Flans Theater/Pub

Well after a year or so of construction, Flan's Theater is about done! I wish I had some before pics to show but I didnt have a camera back then. I hope you enjoy it.

The rooms are in my basement and take up about 3/4 of my 1500sf basement. The walls in the theater are a dark Eggplant Purple with Black carpet, trim and ceiling. In the bar the paint is called Griffin with oatmeal trim and Autumn Cherry Laminate floor.

My rack consists of:

  • Onkyo 606 Receiver
  • Sony VHS Player
  • Oppo DVD Player
  • Component switcher
  • Xbox 360
  • Ps2

Other equipment:

  • HTPC with BluRay/HD-DVD Combo Drive
  • 12" Velodyne Subwoofer
  • 15" Velodyne Subwoofer
  • Atlantic Technology 350THX Speakers all around (include 7.1 surround for the back)
  • Epson 3010 3D 1080p Projector
  • 130" Do-it-yourself Behr Silverscreen
  • Gyration Media Center Remote
  • Converted arcade cabinet into a MAME arcade machine with MP3 playback

I need to draw up a floorplan so you can make sense of the pics. I have some more decorating I need to do and the bathroom to finish. Let me know what you guys think. The movie props (Fett and Stormtrooper) were made From Gelcoat and Fiberglass on PVC mannequins. These took over a year and a half to finish.

Thanks! It's funny because that Pepsi machine cost me $25.00 and it work perfectly. The problem is that its a behemoth and stuck out like a sore thumb. So my wife suggested building it into the wall and there she be. It is from the early eighties I think and will accept cans and Bottles. Frosty bottles of beer in less than an hour!

Plus it was cheaper than a mini fridge.

Has anyone used that faux tin ceiling material? I would like to use it on the ceiling in the bar because it looks pretty inexpensive. Has anyone had any experience with it?

I was thinking about the same. There is some Armstong ceiling tiles that apparently can be glued to the ceiling. I need to research it a little more. There is also textured wallpaper that you can put on the ceiling and then paint to look like tin.

One look at my username should resovle what I think

Well done.....

Love it!

mflanagan , have you seen the ceiling in the Timeless Impressions Theater . Nuczn used a paintable wallpaper that looks very much like an old tin ceiling . Personally I think it's a great look
post #13 of 51
Actually, that does look great with the wallpaper. I just ordered a tin ceiling sample pack and waiting for it to be shipped. Ten panels for like 25.00 (including shipping). Thinking about using it as a back splash for the bar, not necessarily the ceiling.

Hey Bud,
Is that the panels that are about 2' x 4'? Are they tin or the platic type? If so do you have a vendor for those? I'd like to get a sample and paint them. I saw in another thread a guy had some and painted them black, look very nice!

Thanks
Flan

My jaw literally fell open when I looked at these images and then read that you made the mannequins! Awesome. That screen is huge! I cannot believe how bright it is with the HS10. One of these days I will have to upgrade the HS51 to something brighter.

Flan,

These are tin. You can get them in 2x4 just for backsplahes. The company I got these from don't carry that size, I don't think, but I'll double check before ordering anything. You can get them in black pr you can paint them black.

I got my sample pack from the first link below.

Garen,
Do you have a good source for bottled soda? I'd like to get the big ol' 18 or 20oz bottles we used to drink when I was a kid. I cant get it locally

Bud, Thanks for the links, I'm definately going to look into the tin!! When are you adding this to your bar? I'll keep checking your thread.......

Flan,

The only place of I know of is local but they ship anywhere. They mostly have only 12oz. though, but they have everything, from Moxie to Crush to Green River to Dr. Pepper to Dads Root beer to Nehi to Stewarts flavors and of course Coke and Diet Coke.

how long is your bar..where the three stools are?

I might have missed it but did you use the vaccum form process? I played around with this once while in school, I have a degree in polymer science. Sheet forming is pretty easy making the masters to form with is a challenge. I made my masters out of clay then cast them with a two part thermal plastic from Alumilite here in Kalamazoo.. Cool stuff.
