I have a question for all those with this reciever (the 604). I have been looking at an Onkyo for a long time.. specifically the 674, but i'd rather just get the 604 if it will work for me. The difference in a few watts is not a big one for me since my room is small, but my main concern is this:
I have a:
a) PS3 - hooked up via HDMI
b) HTPC - hombuilt with DVI outs- Hooked up via DVI to HDMI (via HDMI to TV)
c) Sony DVD player not up-converting- hooked up via component
d) Sony DVD player not up-converting- hooked up via component
f) Xbox 360 Hooked up via Component
f) Sony CD 50+1 Hooked up by analog
Now, my questions are:
1) Can i hook up all these with the SR604 and conveniently switch between sorces (audio and video) with the 604 remote alone?
2) Will the 604 up convert my sony DVD player from 480i to 480p (i'm guessing) as my xbox 360 does?
3) and finally, can i expect audio issues with the PS3/Comcast cable box when using the HDMI setting because of HDCP? I've heard of the DVR going black during fast forward/rewind and also audio sync issues.
Basically what i'm looking for is a way to hook up all my components to my TV via ONE CABLE (its going on the wall at the end of the month) and use only the remote (the Onkyo one). As it stands now, my Phillips 42 LCD (nor crappy sony reciever) have enough inputs for my DVD player and i have to switch it back and forth when i want to use my Xbox 360 (because they are both hooked up via Component). What i don't want to have to do is continually switch between sources on my TV, Reciever, and physically connect/reconnect things. My wife is going crazy trying to figure it all out. I want it all hooked to my TV via one line (composite or HDMI, either is fine with me as long as its jsut one cable)
I'd like to purchase an Onkyo 604 and a Logitech Harmony Remote to get this job done, but i'm thinking i might have to go with the 674 to get the job done.
Sorry for the confusion if it is confusing.. its been hard for me to get my head around.
Any help would be appreciated.
