Later this week, I'm going to try to get in contact with the managers of the local TRU's and see if they have allotment numbers per store. I'm also going to try to find out whether they will allow somebody to preorder a PS3, Wii and Elmo all at once, or will they have 3 seperate lines, or how exactly are they going to handle the campers. I have no problem camping, I just want to know that if I'm spending X amount of hours in the freezing cold, will I actually have a chance at one. With the GameStop preorder, in my area, we were able to find out the exact number of preorders available for each store, so if a certain store was only going to have 6 units, and there are 6 people waiting, you aren't out there in the cold waiting for nothing. If they seriously are only getting 2 to 5, then camping would be absolutely pointless, cause I'm sure some Nintendo or Elmo lover will be there way before I can get there.

Okay first, just trying to help my fellow users and if you want to believe me you can or you can doubt that is fine.
I preface this by saying I used to work at TRU and I still know 3 store managers and 1 district manager. I talked to them today and the current story is that as of now there will be NO preorders on 10/29/06. This is subject o change based on if Sony gives a confirmation of the units they will be sent for launch. The advice they gave me is to call or stop in Saturday night to see what is the final word. As of now corporate has already sent an email with an attachment to print simply saying the following
"Unfortunately Sony has not confirmed the number of PS3 units for launch to Toys R Us. So we will not be taking pre-orders until the number is confirmed. Sorry for the inconvenience."
This could change by Friday, so as stated earlier call your store manager and find out for sure because as of now they will not be taking orders on the 29th. Also, I have confirmed the big book ad but the PS3 will be bundled with 3 games and a controller.
Just for comparison, last year most TRU had 15-20 360's at launch. TRU is hoping to get that many PS3's but they know the alliance with Nintendo and the Wii could see Sony cut their allotment. This is the main reason why they are not going to have a preorder on Sunday, unless Sony confirms a number with them before Saturday.
I will follow up Friday once I hear more from these store managers.
