If this thread already exists, please disregard. I looked, but couldn't find it.

I recently purchased a PB Plus/2, and have been itching to share my experience so far. Here's my 5.1 set-up:

Denon AVR 5803 (Purchased Used)

Panasonic BD-55 Blu-ray Player (Analog 5.1 Outputs)

Samsung 5687 DLP

GR Research A/V3S x 3

GR Research A/V1RS x 2

SVS PB Plus/2

PURE AV Power conditioner

Listening area is 14x17x8 living room with one 8' opening to kitchen/dining area, and one opening to hallway, laminate floor with large area rug, SVS position is RF corner next to ent center (very limited in where I could put it), listening position is center of 14' wall across from TV, Not an ideal HT room, but could be worse.

Settings:

All speakers set to 75 db, with SVS running hot at about 82 db

SVS Gain at 1/4, 20 hz tune (one port plug), used the included 3M rubber feet

LFE pre-out on Denon is -2.0 db

Listening is 90/10 Movies to Music

After more research than I care to get into, I settled on the Velodyne HGS 15x and the SVS PB Plus/2. I actually ordered the Velodyne, but it was discontinued. I had decided on the Velodyne mostly because of the smaller size and the positive experience a relative of mine has had with his. The SVS and the Velodyne seemed to be close in performance based on what I had read, but

the size of the SVS was scaring me off. WAF. She's been very patient with my hobby. After the Velodyne fell through, I decided to order the SVS rather than looking elsewhere for the Velodyne. Got the size past the wife by telling her it was a lot cheaper than the Velo. I'VE NEVER LOOKED BACK!

Support from SVS before, during, and after the sale has been outstanding. It was shipped fast, and arrived on it's own pallet, very well packaged. The manual and set-up were a snap. I have since contacted SVS a couple times with questions and comments, and they always reply quickly and seem very interested in my impression of their product. Not to mention the money I saved by going with the SVS.

It's performance so far has been excellent. I had a Klipsch KSW 15 prior to the SVS, and let me tell you, this thing blows it away, and the Klipsch was no slouch. From the sock explosion in Monsters Inc. to the Tripods in WOTW, I'm lovin my new toy.

Sorry if this was a puff piece, and again, I hope an owners thread doesn't already exist. If so, let me have it, if not, lets hear about your SVS!

it did once, but got removed. all things SVS tend to provoke strong reactions, and a while back threads were getting derailed/deleted left and right. maybe this one will stick around???

glad you're enjoying your new sub...certainly a step up from that klipsch.

Not surprising. Subwoofers seem to inspire rabid devotion, more than any other component that I've seen.

I'm not a basher. I have a feeling that I could have been happy with a number of subs that I researched. We're very fortunate that we have access to such wonderful technology and performance from many different companies. Lets all just enjoy our hobby, and the chance to share with others who have this bug. God knows, I've looked long and hard for people in my life who share my level of interest in HT, and haven't had much luck.

Hell, SVS owners practically own the entire subwoofer section themselves.

Considering changing my PB Plus/2 tune to 16 hz from 20 hz. Please see my initial post for my set-up and let me know what you think. Any thoughts/observations from current PB Plus/2 owners would be great!

Whoever started this thread rocks!

Supposed to have a flatter curve...try it, you won't lose anything in that room. Personally prefer the 20hz tune, more mid-bass pop and dynamics to my ear.

I have mine at 20Hz also. I tried 16Hz for a while, but went back. Can't put my finger on the difference, but I like the 20 better. Perhaps when I get EQ'ed, I will try 16 again. But like Ron said, try it, it only takes a few seconds to put it back.

If you want to talk just SVS and not get the negative comments, try the Home Theater Spot forum. They have one just for SVS.

I've been swapping emails with Tom at SVS. As always, I get fast, helpful replies. Just wanted some additional owner input.

Not really...though the old PB12 was tuned to 22hz and the new one will be 18hz.

Did some playing around with my PB Plus/2 settings this morning. I was running it in the 20 hz tune, and decided to give the 16 hz a try. I found that I needed to bump up my LFE out on my AVR from -3.0 db to -1.0 db after watching some familiar bass scenes, (WOTW, Matrix Revolutions, Monsters Inc., Episode II, Nemo). There was definately an increase in impact down low, but I felt that the middle frequencies were slightly understated by comparison, even though it was very subtle. Not to mention the higher impact low stuff seemed to find some unwanted resonances in my house. I don't have an EQ, and my listening space, (See beginning of thread), is less than ideal. Needless to say, I went back to the 20hz setting. Glad I tried it.

Any specs available on the 3 new SVS subs coming out? The are supposed to be tuned down a little lower. Wondering how flat the PB12-NSD will be in the 18hz to 80hz range.

What would you guys consider the better upgrade? Buying a third PB12-Plus/2 sub or

upgrading the existing four 12.2 drivers with the new Plus 12.3 series? I'm 50/50 on

movies/ music dvd's.

This was discussed once before. IIRC, adding a third won't get you much more than having two. You would have to add two to get significant additional headroom. Since it looks like the .3 drivers are getting about 2dB more headroom, that would seem to be the better way to go.

Wow! Surprised this has lasted this long....I started an SVS owner's thread a few month's back only to watch it vanish within a couple of days because it contained the letters that shouldn't be uttered together on this forum it seems. Anyways....I currently have a PB10-ISD that I have been really happy with, but I just got back from Reno after having hit a jackpot on a slot machine so I decided to upgrade to the PB12-Plus/2...can't wait! Can't beat buying a new SVS for essentially $2 (that's how much I put in the slot machine....haha!)

why would they delete them?

Got me.....but there was a rampage of deletions a few months back and they all revolved around posts with the three dreaded letters...SVS. Anyways....don't want this to stray off topic and get onto the politics I disagree with on this site so I'll just leave it at that.
