Ha well sorry for this hijacking... But still, I think the waterfall graphs tells all there is to say about the topic. With a ported sub you get more output and lower extension but more sub ringing at very low frequencies, which may probably not matter much in music.

That being said, if you're in the market and have trouble deciding between an SB13 and a ported sub, you should ask SVS and report the answer here.

Since we have no waterfalls, group delay charts, or spectrograms for the SB line, we can't say much of anything! If they perform as well as the PB13U in sealed mode, they should be very "tight" with no significant ringing or group delay.

The thing is, you can very literally get both with the higher end PBs (+ and U). If you want a powerful sealed subwoofer one day, you've got it. If you want to shake the foundation of your house with the bassfest-du-jour, you can do that too.

Great service as well. I talked to Ed the other day and i felt like it was hard to get him off the phone! Lol! Even after all these years, they treat you like your their only customer. Just so totally impressive.

Wanted to give a shoutout to Ed as well. I have a PC12-NSD with a Bash Amp. The Amp is blown and I just finished talking to Ed about it. He walked me through troubleshooting everything and like brian says, it was hard to get him off the phone. I really appreciate the support and level of dedication that this company gives.

The PB+ has rounded corners, is a big box, and if the finish is like my Ultra's, a very smooth surface. In other words, its not just the weight, but the size and surface that cause issues.

Buy your friends a six pack of whatever and a pizza, its cheaper than a new sub or a hospital bill.

Ok, got the PB 12 plus, and you guys were absolutely right. No way to do it by myself... it was just way too bulky. So I paid the delivery guy some cash and he helped me on the spot.

As for the sub? WOW, JUST WOW. This thing is freaking amazing. Even my wife is tolerating the small refrigerator look after playing some music and watching a movie on it. Never knew life could be so good with a good sub...

Enjoy!! I feel they same way, it's an amazing piece of engineering!

well. got my sb13-plus in a little bit. i wanted to set it up without Audyssey first so i could take advantage of the 2 PEQ's when im not using Audyssey.

im not the best with REW but i think it looks pretty good without any help. this is at the listening position. obviously not getting ANY room gain. What do you guys think?

wow!! looks great!! Let me know your thoughts on it. Was thinking about getting that over the sb12 but couldnt bring myself to spend more on the woof than my speaker setup
post #7270 of 10624
Brian, I don't know much about subs and REW yet but wow, that SB13 is gorgeous and I'd *love* to have that kind of room frequency response

Maybe you don't have room gain -- not sure about that -- but you definitely have non-negligible output down to 15 Hz. Only 10 dB attenuation on an entire octave (15-30 Hz), it should sound quite good even with really low-freq content.

Well my SB12 shipped! I went ahead and got the piano finish to match my Boston vs260 speakers. I honestly prefer matte but it wasn't much more for the piano finish so I figured why not for aesthetic reasons. I looked at rythmik and epik but I really wanted something that was small and not mini fridge in shape. I also really wanted a sealed sub but didn't want to sink a grand (rythmik F12 is right at that with shipping and tax) in one. Hopefully I won't be disappointed.
how big is your room. I wil almost guarantee you will NOT be disapointed. this thing is sooo awesome! I have yet to find material where I am disapointed

be sure to post a review!!

ps I have the piano blackas well....sooo nice!

I'm glad to hear you are happy so far. When I ordered mine, once I got the delivery guy to help me get the subs inside and to the back room, I was able to unpack them and get them into position myself.

Congrats on the purchase!

Do you actually notice the null at ~100 Hz?

I'm really curious to do my first room measurement. I just downloaded REW, calibrated my soundcard, and my SPL meter got delivered yesterday. I'm missing the necessary 9V battery I'll try to get one tonight.

my cross over is 60. im not sure what that is. as i get more educated on REW ive noticed that i need to calibrate my sound card. i also calibrated my SPL meter at 94 instead of the recommended 80. ill have to mess around with it more later.

You should figure out what's going on at 100Hz, but yeah, the response below 30Hz is solid. You are getting some room gain as you are only 10dB down @15Hz, but overall it looks very good.

i think it might be something in the room rattling. maybe Friday ill run a 100Hz tone and try to find it.

it sounds very natural and detailed. I'm sure it has to break in a little but jazz is sounding great. I'm impressed so far.

Not unless you need the input signal stronger for some reason.

Thanks. Jack sent me a sample so I could compare. You can only get so close with real finishes and I'm totally satisfied even with them rjght next to eachother.

I thought I would be educating my 20 month old about not messing with it but she hasn't touched it .......yet.
