I'm with Lecter on this, although I must say that I never heard the Ultra. But I feel that if you're going to pour $500 in the upgrade (or more if your upgrade period is over and you're planning on selling your PB12-Plus), better wait and accumulate change until you can get a dual sub setup. That being said, this is assuming there's no other magic in the Ultra than the added output, but some mention a distinctive sound, so I may not know what I'm missing.

Hello smile.gif

Luckily a friend of mine, has a DSP PB13 Ultra. Both the Plus and Ultra, have the same sonic signature, the only patented ultra momentum that little extra to get those couple of decibels over a somewhat lower distortion when the Plus version has reached its limits.

The difference is measurable but I dare say no audible (It's like finding the difference between the box and the cylindrical version is measurable but in practice, not subjectively noticed differences, except for the explanation I gave the driver's disposal in the ground). Having said that, its put a PB13 PC13 and at the same point with the same response curve seat and 3 meters, are not going to notice the differences.
But the question is: What is going to volume levels, so crazy as to push these subs to its extreme limit?
I dare say that 90% or even more than this number, they would not. Besides that if you are pushing the limit these monsters, you do so with your speakers and you can also end up damaging for your own ears. eek.gifbiggrin.gif

In short, I am totally convinced that both the Ultra Plus and have the same sonic signature, only that little extra boost and more that has the Ultra, makes it play an "x"% more on his little brother.

Then if you compare the PB12-Plus DSP with 750W PB13-Ultra Bash, and I'm sure the differences are zero. I tend to be somewhat more precise thanks to its DSP Plus.

Well, I hope you liked my tirade comparative SVS subwoofers, lol. rolleyes.gif

Thanks Lector for that comparison. However *some* people *do* drive Pluses and Ultras to their limits biggrin.gif Not everyone are cramped in 10 sq. meters living room here. For example we had a member two weeks ago (was it mantaray? I think it was, too lazy to check) who had flapping sounds listening to the super lycan's footsteps at reference volume in a huge room. Not sure the added oompf of the Ultra, or even a second Plus would have helped him.

I really don't know how far I am from the limits of my dual PC12-Plus. I like to think I'm quite far considering the power I have at my disposal in a small room, but on another hand, they pound so hard that I really wonder how much more they are capable of.

omg my sub arrive I'm so happy, this think is beautiful i love the black oak, it is really heavy and it look very professional well made, gone to wait for a wile then connect everything and see how it sound

Why are you gone to wait? No time for that! Unpack ASAP! biggrin.gif (and post more pictures of course).

Considering what I see of your room, it doesn't look that big. I guess the Ultra will make a mess of it biggrin.gif

Congrats on the sub. If you are impressed by the look, well...........just wait until you have it hooked to the rest of your gear and then you can't erase that big smile out of your face.......wink.gif

I really hope you have someone else at home giving you a hand to move this bad boy!

Take the time to make sure everything is properly connected, run your calibration software in your receiver and please post back on your initial impressions.

Cheers!

It's indeed absolutely gorgeous. I'm kind of jealous but I just didn't have the floor space for something like this biggrin.gif

Don't hurt yourself moving that thing, and if you want to preserve WAF, maybe you should call a friend and offer him 1) a beer and 2) a demo as a compensation.

It is a beauty indeed. Not sure if you realized already, but you might have to upgrade to the Great Gramma for this bad boy......wink.gif

While you are still at the unpacking process, what do you thing of the front grill? Isn't something?

mata7....that sub is going to destroy that room IF properly set-up. i have 5k cuft and open and although it doesn't pressurize it of course but plays w/ authority very nicely. in fact i had a ed a7s-450 prior to this (18" driver 1300 w amp) for what the pb13u is 13.5" driver it is a remarkable piece of engineering. at 155lbs it weighs the same as my ed sub did. so go figure on the massive size of that magnet and the internal bracing of the enclosure. throw in impecible c.s and warranty i'am a fanboy of svs. my wishlist would be if they would only come out with a 18" driver themselves. oh my....i would love for them to give seaton, jtr, and funk a run.

I have dual PC12-Plus. Now how come I *still* get sub envy? I was supposed to be cured! biggrin.gif

I think I (not so) secretly wanted a PB biggrin.gif

I'd be curious about even a 15-in SVS but given the recent uptake in competition I wonder if they'd be able to be close enough in price to be a serious competitor to JTR, Seaton and even Funk.

I'm just realizing that what I really really want is to try them all rolleyes.gif

I would love to have that monster, just too big for my bedroom setup..

I have dual PC13U cylinders, and I still get sub envy (I am deliriously happy with my babies, but the PB13 is just so darn pretty...)... biggrin.gif When I get the room (i.e. next time I buy a new house), I'm thinking I will have to buy a pair of PB13's to supplement the cylinders... along with a set of Ultra speakers...

Hey Chasl, if you move your bed out of the room, you should be able to accommodate two Ultras!!!!

Is all good Neutro! Relax, let your feelings flow, release the pain that you have inside, and open you heart to us.

With that, we conclude our Monday's night SVS group therapy session......wink.gif

Think about how 4 Ultras could be used to support a bed frame.
EDIT: ROFL @ cr

Do you have to put $.50 into it to make it vibrate?

LOL...

ok guys here are my impression, the sub sound good, but i really don't see to much different between my STF-3 and the SVS, now i pretty sure i don't have it setup right , there is a few thinks that i don't know if i have it setup right, like high pass or lower pass, room compensation, slop, phase, parametric EQ , i set the sub to 0db and run my Pioneer MACC pioneer set the sub level to -8.5 i believe, i have all my speakers set to small and crossover to 80 , today i try lord of the ring and it sound loud but i think this sub can do better, i really don't know if i explain my self right English is no so good whit me , after all that i say i still love my new sub and i'm sure that after i have setup right i will love it even more like i say is me no the sub

today i brought a SPL Meter Galaxy CM-130 " Never use SPL in my life before" but i want get the best out of this sub so i will Google some SPL Guide for tomorrow

please i want to make sure that I am not criticizing my SVS, like i say i still love my new toy i just have to setup good

forgot to mention i I sealed the middle hole so i get 20hz don't know if makes any difference

Sealing the middle tunes the sub to 16HZ. Please make sure you have this mode selected on the amp!

I received my PB13-Ultra last week and also am waiting on my SPL meter to run some REW tests. Iam sure my sub isnt set up in an ideal situation as i am left a little unimpressed. Not Disappointed just not a night and day to justify the $1500 upgrade from my previous Velodyne.

I will stay tuned and look forward to seeing your results as i REALLY want to love this sub!!!

wow I am surprised ou guys are unimpressed thus far...hopefully it is a setup isse. I have been through 3 upgrades in the past year sb12>pb12>XV15 and i have noticed a vast improvement with all three...if I stepped up to an ultra I am not sure what i would get eek.gif

As a suggestion, if wanting the best out of your new purchase, I would encourage you to acquire a room analyzing program. Without one of these, even with benefit of a sound meter, at best one is still hoping for the best and will not knowing why, after getting a sound meter, they're still not getting the best out of their newly acquired subwoofer system.

I currently have on order (it should be here today) a sound meter and calibrator device to replace or upgrade the sound meter I'm currently using. The point, I believe in sound meters and I believe in room analyzing programs as both are necessary tools if one expects to get the best out of their subwoofers.

I hope you find the above encouraging in your efforts to get the best out of your newly arrived subwoofers.
