i wonder what the actual frequency is that hits you in the chest...is there a way to test that out?
Snowmannick said it's in the 80-160 Hz octave...

To test it I guess one could apply a boost of several dBs on a graphic EQ at various frequencies and see where the effect is enhanced the most...

That is nothing.................wait until you add your second Ultra.............eek.gif

Just kidding.........jokes a side, it is really nice to see that you are totally satisfied with your subwoofer and that the extra cash paid is money well worth it at the end.

Cheers!

Thanks bro!

However, I still need to work on some acoustic treatments due to reflections. Only issue that I'm facing on that is try to do it without impacting (much) the look of the room.

I'm still enjoying my six svs subs. Great brand, great build, great sound.

Beautiful setup cr! What is that under the SVS subs, did you make a custom stand?

Looks like a auralex great gramma isolation pad. Helps isolate the vibration to the hardwood floating floor.

Must say CR I'm in love with your setup, throw some paradigm in there and I'd be in heaven wink.gif

I remember your pics now smile.gif Any reason you went with, say, 6 SVS subs (with, if I remember correctly, 4 Ultras in the front, stacked as pairs, and two more -- or was it Pluses -- in the back), instead of, say, a pair or more of the more powerful/expensive subs out there (e.g. Captivators, Submersives, Funk Audio...)? Was that because you built your setup progressively, slowly aggregating Ultras? biggrin.gif

1 SVS per satellite?

Thanks a lot! I'm using the Auralex Great Gramma to decouple the subs from the floor.

You guessed correctly my man!

The two Pluses I use for my 2 channel setup and the four Ultras are for the HT.

I just want to know what it takes to get it.

I cross at 80hz and it gives me that thump.

Any reason why you don't share the Ultras for both setups? Just because? biggrin.gif

Out of curiosity, what mains are you using in that case (I know you have lots of speakers too).

Also, I just want to point out that I do get chest thump with the dual Pluses. It's hard to describe: it's a both a quantity and quality question, it's just not as intense and with as much impact as I think it could / ought to have. I'm pretty sure using bigger mains and/or crossing higher would provide me that, but I have yet to test it. Right now I can't seem to find the time to EQ the sub up there though. I'll report back when I'll have a chance to test it.

Anyway I also want to try a flat EQ (i.e. no house curve) with the dual Pluses.

Hey thanks for the response! The Ultras are hard wired to the Rotel 1570 preamp and the 2 Pluses are plugged into the Benchmark HDR (along with the ASEQ1) . The mains for the 2 channel are Philharmonic 2s and the mains for HT are JM Lab Focal 920s

lol nice. My wife helped me move all of the Ultras into position as well. I have all piano gloss and they are quite stunning as well.

Yes I think the SB13 and PB13 use the same finishes. Although I'm personally partial for piano black, I admit MATA7's pictures would make me reconsider such a choice biggrin.gif
post #9895 of 10620
Well I finally did it. After a month or so of combing through posts and websites of various subs I pulled the trigger on the SVS SB 12 NSD. My wife got sick of watching me surf the net and got tired of me not talking to her at night and said "just order the damn thing" smile.gif Mission accomplished! Will be running it with a Yamaha RX A 820 , 2 Definitive Technology UIW BPA, 1 Definitive Technology DI 5.5 for center and 2 Definitive Technology UIW 64's in ceiling for surround. All my equipment is New In Box and not hooked up. Been buying it piece by piece over the past couple of months and the only time I have taken any of it out of the box is to test it. Have a 60" Samsung to go with it. I can't wait to get this thing cranking. I feel like a kid at Christmas that found a new bike under the tree!!

Any opinions on what sub cable to buy? If it matters I have a Yamaha rx-v673 amp with SVS PC12-NSD sub.
SVS sell 8ft of sub cable for $35 but how does it compare to the Monoprice cable for less than $5?
I have never found any difference in cables (and I know that statement will stir up a lot of people). This should particularly be true for cables to subs since the problems with speaker cables are supposedly all with the highest frequencies. There are no high frequencies going to the sub if you are using a receiver or pre/pro that cuts off any high frequencies. Any decently made shield speaker cable should be fine. Monoprice's cables are decently made.

By the way, I don't believe in subwoofer cable. How is it different than any other speaker cable? The only difference I can see is that it will carry different frequencies and any piece of copper cable would carry whatever frequencies are sent over it.

As you've already noted, shielding. One added benefit of subwoofer cables, quality termination where as most speaker cables are terminated with a lineman's pliers and some form of wire stripper; bare wire ends unless clips are added.

That wood finish is top notch.

I told myself I would never by any HT equipment with gloss finish ever again. Why? Because they scratch easily. I'm obsessed about scratches and fingerprints and those happen too often with glossy products.

I was actually thinking of buying that sub cable from SVS when I get my SB13.

So what sub cables are people using with their SVS subs and are you happy with them?
