The Outback can take a packed Ultra? Wow. On its side I guess?

Yes, it's 2 separate storms, 1 moving up the east coast and the other coming across the mid west and they will join together over
the east coast just like in the famous "blizzard of 78". I live just a few miles from the shore of lake Huron which usually causes
me to get hit a little harder.

If it would have shipped FedEx their terminal is only a few miles away but the PB12-Plus shows a shipping weight of 168lbs. eek.gif so that's probably why it's on R+L Carriers. Closest terminal is Detroit and that's where it is.

Sounds like fun!! Have you tried "War of the Worlds" yet? The first pod coming out of the ground scene is unbelievable. I can't imagine what that would be like with the PB13-Ultra. biggrin.gif

Already went out there. Damn it is quite unreal. Had to get in full snowboard garb including goggles. The snow is blowing sideways. About 10" already and we are directly on the water. This is insane!! 65 mile an hour winds

Yeah, crazy stuff up there. Hopefully no power outages in you area. That's the big concern as per the news.

Stay safe man!
Do any of you guys know of a generator that could power your subs in case of an outage? rolleyes.gif
Seriously, keep safe and if power goes out, better have the camping gear close by... I'm pretty far north of you but we're getting the tip of that storm, mostly wind, so it looks quite big.

The snow storm yesterday was perfect because my daughter and I had a fantastic day of skiing today! Powder city.

DanL, your report was due yesterday. Was there a problem with your Plus? wink.gif
post #9946 of 10584
I just purchased a used about three year old PB13 Ultra with the Bash Amp. I have a large area of about 400 sq ft that opens to a wet bar area of about 200 sq ft. I'm very impressed how this sub fills the space with quality bass and LFE sound. It's set at 15hz with one port plugged and I used YAPO for room adjustments. The bass is tight on music and the LFE is awesome on movies. I was going to buy an HSU but was too tempted when I saw this sub available. She sits on the left hand side of my room in a corner. I am extremely pleased with this purchase. Is there a life expectancy on the Bash amps? I understand the amount of use will impact that but I just wanted to get a feel for life expectancy under normal conditions. By the way I have the gain set at half and the RX3900 set at +4 db.

Thanks!
Glad you enjoy your new acquisition smile.gif I have no idea about the average life expectancy of the BASH amps, but I don't believe they are particularly problematic, although SVS did mention they moved away from BASH to the Sledge ones for reliability issues. I'd guess any issues would have shown themselves earlier though.

LOL, No just a problem with the schedule. The delivery guy was running later than expected and I had to leave to get my taxes done. The next day I can be home is Thursday so
we will try it again.
Thanks Neutro. This thing is a beast. Hauling it upstairs with my son helping was a challenge.
My old man helped me step by step. Lol
If you guys wanted an easy to move sub, SVS also makes subs that actually roll you know. Quit complaining... biggrin.gif
post #9956 of 10584
We aren't complaining we're touting our man stuff to be able to move such a massive thing.
Well considering how hard it was to manipulate the PC Plus in its (rectangular) box, even with its puny sub-100 lbs packing weight, I can only imagine how punishing it would be to haul a PB Ultra up a flight of stairs...
I had to get my PB12/Plus2 up a flight of stairs - I had to wait for the other half's dad to come round and help! lol

MOTHER. OF. GOD.
mine finally got here yesterday after waiting for 3 weeks. i got them from homeboy mason at sonicboom
(aka SVS canada). they arrived on a skid and i almost died bringing them home/moving them around. these
are some serious puppies. finally got them both unboxed and re-arranged the room a little bit to set them
up.

they got plugged in, i adjusted the the main volume on them to -10, but by that time it was kinda late
and i didn't want to blow my neighbours head off (i live in an attached unit). i had a blu-ray playing and even
at -40db on my reciever, it was DIRTYYYYYYY. hahahah

i'm going to run ARC on my anthem tommororw since i have the day off so i'll be killing ithem all day. also the
adjustments on these things are out of control! is there anywhere out there that has a setup tutorial specifically
for the SVS's with sledge amps?
Hi laychooba and welcome to the club... Congrats on the purchase! They're simply superb. Oh and happy to see another Quebecer in the thread.

BTW are those Pluses or Ultras? Apart from scale is there any way to distinguish Plus and Ultras?

As for setup, it's really simpler than it looks since obviously you'll let your AVR perform bass management. The only thing not mentioned in SVS's guides is the following advice, given in this thread by Ed Mullen (from SVS) himself. It seems that the 800- and 1000-W Sledge amps perform better (higher peak power) when their gain is set to the max (0 dB), which is supposed to be their default value. This is of course only useful if you listen close to reference levels. Or also way above, I guess. The only problem with this advice is that on many AVRs, the sub pre out trim level cannot be set low enough to compensate for running the sub's gain at 0 dB (let alone two of them).

Else, you should simply leave the low pass filter to "disable" and let your AVR manage what is sent to the sub. Your speakers should be set to "SMALL", and chose an appropriate crossover frequency (80 Hz is a good starting point, but if you use dual subs symmetrically positioned on the left and right of your screen, you can go higher without having the bass localized in awkward spots). The PEQ settings can be used to perform a rough EQ in case your AVR does not already EQ the sub frequencies, and you don't have another sub EQing solution.

Finally, your subs can be tuned at different frequencies. The default setting (all ports open, 20 Hz tuning) offers the most output. Many people here prefer to sacrifice a bit of output and run the sub in 16 Hz tuning. To do that you need 1) to block one port with a foam plug and 2) select the 16 Hz tuning on the amp. The other tuning mode is completely sealed, but there isn't any compelling reason to use it IMHO.
