A/V Syncing

Thread Starter
I have the LG LH-E9674 HTIB. My tv is the Sony KDF-46E2000. It is a rear projection lcd. I hooked up my htib to the tv. I turned the tv speakers off and the audio and video isn't synced up. The video is ahead of the audio. I've A/V syncing settings to max on both the tv and htib. It will start off fine, but the more you watch the worse it gets. Is there anything I can do?

Is there anybody with suggestions?

possibly try adjusting one of them at a time, not both at the same time or it will still be off. Usually just the receiver needs to be adjusted.

I just hooked my LH-E9674 today and am having the same issue. I am going to call LG tomorrow to try to figure it out. just as you say, the longer I watch the worse the syncing is. I tried playing with the HD AV sync, but no love there. did you find anything out about this? I'd appreciate any help, I'd hate to box it up and return it.

forgot a few details. the issue is happening with my TIVO series 1 DirecTV reciever. right now just using AV out, not optical (optical out is not working), plugged into AV1 on the LG receiver. I took a set of RCA cables and hooked the left channel to the LG and the right channel to the TV (plain old 27", no HD - yet) and it is OBVIOUS that the LG receiver is causing a lag in the sound.

ARRRRRRGH! the only thing that "resets" the A/V syncing is to power down and power up the receiver every ten minutes or so.

so I just got off the phone with LG about the A/V syncing issue with this receiver. get this, they actually ADMITTED that there is an issue with this particular model (LG LH-E9674). she went on to say that the problem is isolated to this model alone, but why would I buy another LG product if they don't even have the professional courtesy/responsibility to remove the thing from the shelves or to publicize the issue before people buy this P.O.S.?

I am going to scrap the idea of an integrated DVD/Receiver and go with the tried and true Onkyo receiver.

Thanks LG, for NOTHING!

bigd432, if you can still return that receiver I suggest you do so...

You're better off getting a seperate component system anyway. if the DVD player were to break on that, you'd have to get a new combo unit.

The Onkyo would be a better choice.

I definetly learned my lesson - component system all the way. doing more research online, I have found nothing but rave reviews for Onkyo products.

below is an excerpt from my correspondence with LG customer service via email:

ME to LG:

after setting the unit up and plugging my DirecTV Tivo series 1 into the AV1 jack, I noticed that the audio and video are not syncing with each other correctly. the audio is lagging when run through the new reciever. to confirm this, I put the left channel out of the DirecTV reciever through the LG receiver and the right channel out of the DirecTV receiver through the TV's input. the TV speakers were synced perfectly with the video, the LG speakers were not. if the problem persists, I will be forced to return the unit. please help!

LG to ME:

Dear K, Thank you for inquiring of LG Electronics. This has been something that has been noted on this model of Home Theater System. Please provide the following information: Name: Address: C/S/Z: Phone: Model: LH-E9674 Serial: Case #: Description of Connections: (Please be very specific in your notes about connections. What type of connections are being used, if the you have tried more than one set of cables, how the cables are routed (e.g TV audio out to audio in on home theater system).) This information will be forwarded to our engineering staff to determine the cause of this synchronization problem. For further information or troubleshooting, you may contact us at 800-243-0000 for LG Customer Service assistance. An agent will be glad to assist you. Thank you again for contacting LG Electronics.

and the coup de grace from Me to LG:

Don't bother. I called your support line yesterday and asked about it. The customer service rep. acknowledged the issue stating that it was a known issue with this model number even though the problem could not be replicated by your engineering staff in house.

I immediately returned the unit to the place of purchase.

Let me take a minute to say how disappointing it is that your company is aware of an issue with this particular model # and has done absolutely nothing to prevent people from spending 400+ dollars on it and bringing it home only to have it not work. There is no mention of this issue on your website, no recall notice and you are still selling them in retail stores. This shows an obvious lack of consideration for your consumers.

I can state with confidence that you will never have me as a customer for any of your products. This is unfortunate since the Home Theater system was the first step towards an entire HD setup in my house and I was considering getting a LG HDTV to match the system. I have made it public knowledge to both the retail store I purchased the system at (Best Buy) and to all of my workmates and friends how dissatified I am with your company's handling of this issue. I also suggested to the Home Theater section manager at Best Buy that they remove this piece of garbage from their shelves to avoid future problems with other consumers. I hope they do so.

I have decided to go with a product from Onkyo that is of much higher quality for a similar price and only lacks the DVD player. Talking with my peers and reading reviews online, I have found nothing but good things about Onkyo - I have yet to find rave reviews for anything from LG besides phones. Even Chocolate owners I have talked with are not very pleased with the fact that the phone is constantly opening and draining battery life while in pockets and purses.

Thanks,
Me

kcp91,

Thanks for the info on this. My wife just bought this model for Xmas. I'm not even going to open the box--it is going straight back to Best Buy. I've also been looking at the Onkyos. Which Onkyo model did you go with?

just my 2 cents, but the Onkyo 780/790 is excellent and well worth the price they are selling for.

sorry, haven't looked back here since my last post.

I haven't "gone" with one yet, but am choosing between the 590 and 790 that dopple suggested. I don't have much of a room to fill, and the 590 seems to have all I really need with plenty of inputs for the right price. they offer a 6.1 surround with the 680, but it only has one opt/one coax in.

the 790 looks really nice, has better front spks and sub plus two more surrounds, ipod support (through an optional dock), XM radio compatible, 3 opt/1 coax, multiple video inputs, etc. for 200 bucks more. the kid in me wants it, my sensible side says I'm not really going to use the extras. I'm going to sit on it for a while before deciding, but from what I've read you can't really go wrong with either.

Crutchfield has a great knowledge base about home theater, everthing from digital encoding standards to types of speaker wire. I just found it last weekend, very good info.

one question for Doppleganger:

do you actually run your video signals through your receiver? I can't think of any benefit to this, but am seeing that many recievers, the 790 included, seem to be built for this.

oh yeah, one more - if I got the 790, could I just hook up 5.1 surround and sit on the other two speakers until I have a bigger room to fill?

I know this thread is a few weeks old, but i just purchased this LH-E9674 and come to find this has that Audio/Video synch problem. I purchased this yesterday thru BB and i called LG today. The first call they told me to unplug and leave off for 20 mins to reset, did it and didn't work. I called back and the service rep was totally unhelpful, started to ask for my address and when i asked why, she said that i have to send this unit in to get updated. So i said the hell with that i'll return it and get the Sony HTIB that i should of gotten in the first place. I'll never buy a LG product again.

Sorry for the delayed response - been out of it for a while...personal issues...

yes I run my video from the component parts to the receiver to the TV. using component cables for video and optical cable for audio from dvd/sat to recviever.

Yes you can hook up just 5.1 for now if you choose - thats what I have right now - even minus a sub currently. Save up for a BIC!

I also bought the LH-E9674.

A quick tip for you all. I also had the sync problem. I have a 50" samy dlp.

With the av sync on 300 ms it was pretty close to sync'ed. It was annoying having to switch it everytime i went from dvd to cable.

I picked up a digital coax cable today.

right now i run the digital coax from the hd dvr cable box to the LH-E9674 and i also run rca's from the hd dvr cable box to the tv.

They are perfectly inline, if one its off it is <5 ms. I am now able to turn the speakers on the tv on aswell as the LH-E9674 speakers.

i cant hear any delay.

i dont know if my 50" samy was delaying the signal or if it was the rca's going into aux 1. BUt usuing the digital coax has completly resolved the issue.

I do have one question, Is there anyway to turn the base on the sub up? Only for music, i run my PC or ipod (through a xbox 360) The base sounds really really weak on music. But sounds good on Movies.

Also, i cant seem to tell the difference between upscaling and watching a dvd on the 360. Im using the hmdi out to my hdmi in. the 360 has components.

I am aware of the resolution button and set it to 720p. I guess i was expecting to be blown away, but i really cant tell the difference between that and watching on the 360. SHould I? Should it be a obvious difference?
