QSC PLX vs. PLX2 - Need Help Fast!

Based upon glorious reviews from all over, I ordered a PLX-1602 to power my Klipsch RF-7's.

The distributor called back and says they cant get stock on the 1602, but offered me an 1802 for $659 shipped.

Problem is the 1802 is in the PLX2 line (the newer ones).

Usually newer is better, but all the rave reviews I was hearing were for the 1202 and 1602 in the PLX line. . those two particular models . . . in the ORIGINAL PLX line. .

Can i expect the same *GREAT* sound quality from the 1802 in the PLX2 line??

Does anyone have one of these??. . it would be especially helpful if you owned both a PLX and a PLX2 and could give me a comparison.

I need to call this distributor back in the next hour and a half with a decision.

help!!!

thanks,

-rich

Just to keep the thread alive and my own curiosity how is the QSC PLX1104 amp? I have been looking for something clean and powerful. Whats your opinion of this amp and its fan? Is it loud? J.H.

I ordered the QSC PLX1104 and can't wait to get it. The made in the USA label on the back was a giant selling point for me. J.H.

Cool I guess we are both expecting brand new hopefully amazing new amps. I can't wait to see what that headroom will give my system. Plus the PLX1104 is described as Ultra-clean and Ultra accurate so thats something I am really looking forward to. This amp is real light too which was a giant selling point. J.H.

Well JH and Netmagi,

How did those amps work for you?

It is my understanding that the PLX and PLX2s are exactly the same except the PLX2 has a couple added features and the ability to add expansion modules. Bob can correct me if I am wrong. I am using 2 PLX2402s to run my subs and they are fantastic.

My PLX2's are awesome. They have power like I have never had before. They cannot be clipped. They just have so much juice its amazing. They also sound incredible. They make my Definitive Technology speakers really come out. Not only do they have power but they have nice touch with softer sound. I am really glad I went with pro amps. They are light as hell too. I say you can't go wrong with them. Also the fan noise is no big deal at all. J.H.

Thanks for the feedback JH. I just got in my Denon AVR 4806 and I am going to play around with it over the weekend and decide about getting a PLX 1802 to drive my RF-7's.

I think you can't go wrong with big extra clean power. It does wonders for a system. Its not about playing everything loud. Its about having the power in reserve and the nuances you can hear from having all the power.

I can dig it. I am into nuance. I found a local distributor for the product, but he hasn't dropped the price low enough for my patronage. I am looking for one of those deals that Netmagi mentioned at the top of this thread.

I bought my two at Parts Express check em out? They had great prices for me. Also check out the Outlaw MM2200 mono block amps. I would have liked to have tried 5 of them to see what they can do working together. J.H.

The PLX2 are nearly identical to the PLX, with simplified configuration switches and slightly higher power ratings.
