What a thread! My head hurts just trying to digest all the permutations.
So I've decided to take the plunge and get a PS3, mainly for BD (and a little gaming
), but I have a twist. The disply I'm going to put this on is Mitsubishi RPTV (WS-55809) that maxes out at 1080i and has no HDMI. So I'm thinking that I'll replace my HK AVR-520 with something new to be able to get...
1. HD Componenet video switching (AVR-520 has no HD component switching). My venerable Mits RPTV only has one HD component input. I plan to use the PS3 to "downsample" BD movies to 1080i and feed the receiver. I also use the component output from my HD cable box and would route that through the receiver as well.
2. Receive the LPCM stream via HDMI (AVR-520 has no HDMI) from the PS3 for the HD audio soundtracks on the BD disks.
The receivers I'm looking at are the Yamaha RX-V661 or 663, or a Denon 1908. I'm leaning towards the Denon right now, but I'm intrigued by the Yamaha's for some reason.
1. Will all the above receivers support what I want to do? (I think they will since they handle audio via HDMI).
2. Are there any others in the same price range ($350-$450) that I should consider?
