Thanks a lot strutter. I read that, but I am not understanding it fully.

HDMI handshake is basically 2 components working correctly together with HDCP. a problem occurs when one of those components is not compliant or is not working properly.the two pieces of hardware must exchange a key, a sort of certificate of authenticity unique to each individual device, to verify a secure connection. the article discusses this and how to avoid a problem.

I perused the Owner's manual and Sony's website and found no mention of it, however I haven't had a chance to look through the Service Manual yet.

any ideas? I thought I read somewhere that some of the older Sony's had connectivity for upgrading/changing some things via computer connection through USB. (man is my brain drawing a blank) So as i stumbled across this, I wondered if anyone here knew.

On the back of the set there is a USB port labeled "service only" or something like that. I assume it is for firmware updates...Will

So this TV can update the firmware when and if SONY releases new firmware?

Thank you very much for your answer!

The lamp assembly is what is inside the "spare lamp" box. There's more to it than just a lamp, that's why it's an assembly.

It's unlikely you'll fix this by removing and reinstalling the lamp assembly, but there's nothing else I can think to tell you to try. If this doesn't work, time for a technician to have a look.

PM wont go through.

JasonRabb has exceeded their stored private messages quota and can not accept further messages until they clear some space.

According to one of the techs that serviced my old XBR1, Sony has another manual that includes a lot more info on the service settings. It is not available to anyone other than factory-authorized servicers and I have no idea how to obtain it.

After reading for hours about pixel-pixel perfect image from a HTPC, I am still confused. Does anyone actually have a 1 to 1 pixel alignment from a HTPC in ether 1080p or 1080i? I know there is a physical overscan where the edges of the screen hides a few pixels all around but I can't seem to get 1 to 1 pixels in the center. I have created a 1920 * 1080 gif image and used it is as a desktop background. Its an all black image with a small grid in the middle. The top row has 2 pixel wide white lines with a 2 pixel black space. The middle row has 1 pixel wide white lines with 2 pixel wide black space. The bottom row has 1 pixel wide white lines with a 1 pixel wide black space. Unless there is something wrong with my gif, I don't get good alignment. I am using an ATI X1300 video card with and without powerstrip. I have included the gif for anyone to test.

Thanks. But is there any other ways to test this without using a computer. On XBR1, we could have test it using Memory Stick.

Video generator (Accupel HDG-3000, Sencore VP-403).

HD-DVD player with HD test disc.

Possibly a Sony Blu-Ray player with a Sony disc using the hidden test pattern. I have not used this enough to remember if it includes a pattern suited for this.

This is a fairly moot point for video because video is not limited to frequencies only corresponding to the pixel locations.

This test is to verify that my Home Theater Computer is sending a pixel-pixel perfect output to my TV. What does that have to do with a memory stick or a Video generator?

i read in an earlier post that a member had the sharpness all the way up and all the other adjustments off (detail and edge enhancer).i like these settings, i was using sharpness at 65 with detail at medium and edge at low i now have these off and like the picture!i had and xbr1 before being replaced with an xbr2 and i have struggled with the picture quality of the new one until now.

thanks!

Ok. i see. i found that by doing a google search. i paid no attention to the name of the place it came from.

I always like looking at Reviews & Tweeks. I always keep an open mind on both...G.B.
i checked that site again. i couldnt find any product reviews.
OK Thanks... do much tweaking Yourself ?
not really. but i probably need to. i think my set looks great right now. someone else with a better eye may think it looks like crap. and i'm sure it could be lots better than it is. i always find other things i need to be doing besides tweeking and when i'm not doing those other things i'm watching tv and dont want to mess with it. today is the first day in about a week i've even had a chance to come here. i do enjoy reading reviews and tweeks though. and as you said you gotta keep an open mind. what may look right to one person may look like crap to another. eyes get acustomed to seeing bad images and you dont realize its bad unless someone else points it out. on the flip side you may make a change and love it because its different but after living with it for a while realize it looks like crap. i'm hoping for a calibration this year.

What's the best way to set white balance for non-dvd sources? I can use the avia disk for that, but what about the rest?

There is no good answer. If you're talking about broadcast, satellite or cable programming, they are all over the map and what's worse, every channel is different. You're only choice is a compromise setting that may not look great for every channel but is at least acceptible. Start with the DVD settings you got with Avia and adjust as necessary for other sources.

You could calibrate each input separately if you had ISF training and test equipment... otherwise you could hire an ISF calibrator. That will help a lot and it will do far more than you can do with the Avia DVD. But even ISF calibration can't make every broadcast, cable, or satellite channel adhere to standards for std def or high-def.

What sources? If you have an HD DVR, you can try and record HDNet's HD test patterns and use those.

For HD-DVD or Blu-Ray, the HD versions of the test disks should be out soon (if not already.)

For VHS, you're out of luck...
As far as sources I'm talking about for setting white-balance, I meant ones like Sat, Cable, etc. We do have HD DVR, but our service provider is Comcast, so no luck with HDnet content.
Could you post your settings please. I'd like to try this out. If possible please post all the settings.

Thanx,
Boddu
