Disappointed in Pioneer

Hey All,

I have the Pioneer VSX-516 receiver. I just went out and purchased the Pioneer DV490V HDMI DVD player. I know this may sound petty. But I was disappointed to see that the readout displays don't match in color or brightness. I mean my receiver glows bright white/blue while the DVD player readout is dark and blue/almost purple.

When you're buying units by the same manufacturer you'd expect them to match since most users will be sitting them one on top of the other.

What gives?

Is it at all possible that your Receiver might be a couple of years old and the DVD Player is a new model? Maybe if you bought both of them as the most current models available they might have a better display match.

If they are the latest models then I would understand your logic behind the displays matching. Does the Receiver...or maybe even the DVD Player, have a selection where you can control the brightness of the Display? If so, maybe if you dim the off-color one, it might be a closer match.

I have the Pioneer DVR-640H-S DVD Recorder, and if I select too I can turn the display off when the unit is powered off.

Aside from your display concern, may I ask you a question about the DV-490 DVD Player? How is it with DVD playback (all the -R/RW, +R/RW, Dual Layered, etc...)? I was thinking it might be time for a new player and I narrowed it down to some where the Pioneer that you have is one of my choices.

They are both 2006 models. I bought them a week apart. That's why I thought it's crazy that they wouldn't match. As for the dimming. The color hue of the display is so far apart it doesn't matter what brightness setting I set it to.

As for the actual DVD player I haven't had any problems playing any of my 'backup' DVDs, of course your mileage may vary.
