Yes, of course you may.
First of all: my needs and wishes. I projected movies at a throwing distance of 25 ft, with just stereo sound. My main need was surround sound. My further wishes were integrating my mac and switching between display and projector. Reasonable, isn't it?
Why did I buy the 5200? There are no 7.1 integrated amps available, so a receiver is the only option. The 5200 sounds brilliant both in stereo (bi-amped with Marantz Mono amps) and in surround (4x Mirage Omnisat). The 5200 serves my main need very well.
Looks to me like a logical dicision process.
However, I have tried make more use of it: integrating my Mac and an Apple Display into the system, switching between projector and display, properly connecting my iPod to the front bus, up-and downscaling video, laying the 7.1 matrix over LPCM, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera. All these wishes are completely normal and harmless. I do not steal content, nor do I expect too much. All my wishes could easily be satisfied by the 5200, because it's all in there. On paper the 5200 looks very versatile. On paper.
Like many people here - I have had to undergo numerous time consuming trial and error sessions, all with frustrating results. Do you want to know how many components, connectors, converters and cables I have lent and tried out, how many trips to the shops I have made, how many hours I spent on the phone, on the internet, gazing at the back side of the 5200 and plowing through the little footnotes in the manual? I do not take all the unneccesary No-Can't-Do situations that the 5200 confronts me with with lightly, but what more can I do than blow off some steam (thanks guys!) and warn others
, like through this forum?
After all the hopeful hassle, I now have to bypass the video capabilities on the 5200 and have had to buy an unintegrated 24" iMac instead of the Apple Cinema Display I wanted. That makes me quite furious. The 5200 answers my basic need, but disregards all my wishes. If you treat people around you or business relations that way, these relations soon will end.
I hope you understand me better now. Do you recognize some of this?
