Panasonic admits BUG in DMR-EH75V

Having posted a question re this model on this site, due to really POOR Pany support, and finally getting no good followup by pan; I finally demanded a high-level engineer type. Surprise, they actually tested my problem and admitted I uncovered a bug in the product. For all members HERE I'll summarize. This model has a SD card slot and (see pg 8 of ths manual (also viewviable online as a pdf) it is supposed to be possible to place JPG file on the SD card and create a slide show...just in the way it can be done on a CD for the DMR. Page 8 of the DMR maniual clearly shows creating a placing your JPEGS in "folders (like XP). But, no matter how I format the SD card (using the DMR, or via a Snadisk adaptor and XP commands (using FAT 12/16/or 32) format)...the result is the same...that isJPG's placed in the ROOT of the SD card ARE viewable on the DMR as a slide show...but ANY folders on the SD card AND the JPGs in them are INVISIABLE to the DMR-75!!! By the way, the same instructions, methods etc used with a CD DO function perfectly on the DMR-75...finally Panasonic tested and confirmed this (for me big) bug. I'm hoping the will correct this via a Firmware upddate...I'll bet it's a rather simple fix..if that's their mindset...else, being that my CMR75 is very new, I'll seek a refund or compensation etc. DO ANY OF YOU HAVE A DMR-&% or similar MODEL ...CAN YOU TEST THIS ON YOURS????? *** Thanks for your response....It seems according to your post that the JPGs on your SD card DID appear....in fact there was a "tree structure"...May I ask a few questions of you to help me clarify what's going on??

I have the "feeling" that you have taken the SD out of your camera directly and tried it? I asume this due to the NAMES of the folder structure you mentioned....I have a Cannon dig, Camera (3 years old-uses Compact Flash Cards-not SD); but if I take the card out of the cam, and place in a SANDISK USB (to PC) reader/writer, I would see the same structure as you have mentioned. Of course, I would imagine that ALL the pictures placed on your SD card by the CAM directly(?) are in a single "folder". I have not yet seen a camera that somehow allows the user to create user named folders (in PANA terms so called groups). Further, in my opinion, I want to be able to clean up (edit) the Jpegs and actually just place those on the SD card (keeping it for slide show viewing in the years ahead). Panasonic support (and I must say I use this term without regards to their technical prowness), now insists that the DMR-75 DOES work correctly...se page 8 of manual- (which is correct for CDs/DVD's with JPEGS in a folder /group structure...but for SD cards, I still have not sen that a user compilation in several folders is viewable...I'm not sure (yet) if in your case, you are able to have multyiple folders (groups) each containing pictures and all accessible...SAnd yes, I have tried formatting the SD card either in the DMR directly or via the PC in the (per manual) FAT12 or FAT 16 format.

Maybe it would make more sense for me to ask (you or Panasonic)...how do I arrange to have mutilpe groups (folders )on the SD card which contain JPEGS which I have edited, or even come from various CAM or sources etc/ I hope this is clear and that you will be kind enough to help me...

I must say, other than it being a rather complex product, every other function of this MR is really great and works correctly..so in gneral I'm happy....

I have to agree with you regarding VHS recordinh...I hadn't run into this myself, but it seems true. I must say, the DMR-75 is quite complex (102 pg manual with lots of cross references (btw, do yourself a favor, goto to the panasonic website and downloafd the PDF version...much handier than the poor index of the printed version...you can use Acobat to search terms/words!

But, to the point...Whether manual/TV Guide or otherwise VHS as a destintaion seems not to be possible. Only, as you said "1-step recording...equals <> programmed.

But...why do you want to record to VHS? Perhaps to record and take/give it to a person who only has a VHS machine?

Otherwise...of course for yourself record to HDD. Otherwise, (ok an extra step) record (using all possible methods) to HDD and then copy to VHS or DVD.

This also offers the so-called fit recording method so say you record to the HDD in LP mode, then (move to VHS/DVD) the compression will be determined at COPY time and FR (Fit Recording) will compress JUST to the extent needed. My experience is that even > 3 hours to DVD gives better than VHS SP quality....

Give it a try.

No excuses as to why Pana didn't give this feature...other than the record to HDD is so easy/fast/good qulaity that I only use VHS in copying...mostly 3-4 hours VHS tapes to a single DVD.....with great quality.
