To those who thought their TS360/TS160 was dead!!!

Well, I have a DTC-100 down our basement having trouble pulling in OTA signals from Philadelphia. We have 2-H20's upstairs pulling in OTA just fine, but my wife uses the DTC-100 downstairs to watch TV while on the treadmill. Certain stations keep cutting in and out. This prompted me to pull out my mothballed TS360.

I plugged it in and nothing...no lights, no "welcome screen", no "now booting" menu and worst of all there seemed to be no power. So I found a 2 year old thread stating to plug your TS160/360 in until it comes on...even if it's making a clicking noise with nothing on the screen. So I left it plugged in for about 3-hrs and nothing. Well, I thought it was the outlet, I switched it to another outlet and with in 20 minutes the TS360 came to life and is working great now in our basement pulling in OTA signals the DTC-100 could not hold.

Just wanted to post to let you know not to throw away your TS360/TS160's if they don't power up or just "click".

Yes -- I can personally vouch for this as well. I purchased a "defective" one on the cheap ($25), left it to click away on the bar downstairs overnight, and it was 100% ready to go by morning.

This is the best HD deal on the planet. I love my 160.

The weird thing with my TS360, is it won't pick up a few digital channels that all other recievers pick up...including my DTC-100. Anyone else experince this?

For some reason it won't pick up the WHYY and chanels 39-,2,3,4,5, where my others do...weird...the other recievers show 80%-90% on these stations....

Hoping my 360 comes back to lilfe. Has been unplugged for 6 months or so. Just got another HDTV and wanted to see if I could pull in more stations with the 360 than with the internal tuner in the TV set and got nothing. Have it plugged in after reading this thread.

Actually came looking for the Official TS 360 thread and this one came up first with a search.

Will reoprt back with results when t comes back to life. It does have a low clicking that is only audible when ear is right up to the unit.

Sure enough, 6 hours after plugging my 360 back in and leaving it, I had a Boot Fail showing on screen. Thanks for the info on this weird-crazy behavior. Wonder what it is that is making these do this when they hadn't been plugged in in awhile.

um, anyone know why my 360 won't get analog cable? I've done everything that I can think of. Local OTA HD is a go, it just clicks on Cable. I've had it hooked up for 2 weeks now. I had this unit as a BBY replacement for 2 other OTA HD receivers (Toshiba DST-3000, my personal fav unit and one I had 6 years ago and some Hughes HD Receiver). I don't use it for DirecTV anymore, just OTA HD and hopefully analog cable. Thanks.

I have a TS360, I have not used for over a year. Now I'm back with D*, plugged the unit - dead as a brick.

Last time I had to fix the 13/18v regulator, I opened it up, nothing aparently wrong with it. Only the power supply clicks a little as if no power is drawn.

I just ordered a service manual for it, but we'll see if it revives itself after a few hours.

If you've got Comcast, they cut out the extended basic analogs a few months back within the city of Chicago.

The only analog channels still available are the limited basic ones.

The news was plastered all over this forum. Don't know how anyone could've missed it.

I just replaced my "dead" TS360 with a D* HD-DVR.

The 360 would randomly re-boot, then, 2 out 3 times, lock up after the guide was downloaded. I couldn't get out of that screen, no matter what I would try.

So now, it is "mothballed" in the closet unless I can figure out the constant re-boot, locked-screen deal...

Happy to report that this morning my TS360 was working.

Now the bad part, the moment you plug it off you need to wait another 4-6 hours for it to start again.

Will see if the service manual provides some hints.

Add me to the list of folks who had a "dead" TS360 come back to life. I got mine on ebay and my half-a-thief seller told me before I bid that it was working fine. But he apparently was basing that on his last experience with the thing which was who knows how long ago. He obviously couldn't be bothered even plugging it in to check it before selling it because if he had, he would have told me it wouldn't power up. Unless he was more than just half-a-thief, which I tend to doubt.

But it all worked out fine as I got an appropriate rebate and then brought the thing back to life. Hah!

I had mine plugged in overnight and it still hadn't come back to life after probably 14+ hours. So I unplugged it and pulled the cover and poked around a bit inside (to no avail), also pulled the card out of it, then plugged it back in. About an hour later it sprung to life. And it's working just fine, thank you.

Just like Tonedeaf's box, mine had only a low clicking sound (more like ticking sound) that was barely audible -- and only heard at all when I put my ear right up to the thing at the rear where the power cord is.

I'm guessing that these have a battery backup that needs to be charged before the unit will power up. It's just wired that way; that is, it won't power up until the backup is fully charged (or sufficiently charged). So when it's been unplugged for a long time the backup becomes totally discharged and thus it doesn't power up until that backup gets a sufficient charge into it.

Just my guess as to why they all seem to behave this way.
