so PQ is OK
def not the best as my old 37" crt woops in in color depth, color accuracy, dynamic range, and "gradient" smoothness.
it seems that even with its 13-bit processor that can allegedly reproduce 549billion colors or something like that, it does do "dark" very well. If there is a dark scene, you get these black GLOBS of darkness that can only be taken away with lowering the contrast and upping the brightness....this takes away from it's dark accuracy. Either it's me being really anal, or its just the dvd's mastering (i've watched i robot, finding nemo, gone in 60 seconds, and the devil wears prada) If i give it great black-scene detail, it's "windowness" when a bright scene occurs is just smashed with lots of grey...as in little contrast. DNIe seems to do nothing than ruin the PQ also....
As you can see, glare reducton is non-existant...they should have gone with some sort of film like they use on lcd computer monitors....i don't see how glass can reduce glare any.
Will a calibration disc solve my problems?...it just makes me mad that a 6 year old sony crapola 37" crt displays a smoother picture (in color steps, that is) than a plamsa....but i guess crt's always win when it comes to accuraccy...like comparing my 30" apple HD screen to my old 17" crt monitor...right?
Other than that, i LOVE this screen! It's just so huge and enormous. I'd still rather watch this plasma than my old 53" 4:3 sony rear projection....When a bright , animated movie is played (monsters inc, finding nemo) the colors just POP out and GRAB YOU!!! Unparralelled reproduction with animated films. It's just with real world stuff (real ppl talking in movies, ect, as in Unbreakable, or Gone in 60 Seconds) where this display fails in terms of black scenes.
Any help on the color depth? Willl a calibration help...every setting (and hours of tuning) haven't seemed to help with anything. I'm running it with an xa2 as of now WITHOUT the firmware update...is this why the PQ is so bad?.....I have about 10 hours on it now, and haven't given it ANY bars or normal 4:3 material. Everything is stretched, no logos using the zoom function. Will this screen get better over time, or is it time to seek professional help?
-this is not my main viewing venue...upstairs will arrive on wed, a hew hls7178 run by an xa2...hopefully that will satisfy me better than this plasma did (is)
