Looking for (2) 18" subs for my car

In an Eclipse? Are you sure you'll have enough room? What kind of box... sealed? Ported?

just do one 12" free air.. the new rockford subs pound. Your hatch will bang.

Don't waste the money on 18"s

Some people like 18s. I had 2 ported in a Ford Ranger ext. cab. Tuned low. 2,400 watt amp. **** was ridiculous.

Some people like 18" subs for bragging rights, others like smaller subs that outperform larger ones and the knowledge to explain why they outperform.

Some people also like having the bragging rights of saying they have a 2400w amp also, beacuse they need that 3 extra db over a 1200w amp right?

I've had 12s, 15s, 18s... Sealed and ported enclosures... Design and build my own enclosures... I know how to fiberglass. I've been a car audio junkie for many years.

I'm not bragging about anything. Telling somebody to just use a 12 when they're asking about 2 18s... Yeah okay. Some people are just scared to get loud.

I have been installing car audio equipment for over 20 years.
I have many kids walk into my store every week asking about getting 18's and I always get them to change their mind pretty quick. The only exception to this rule is if the kid walks into the store with a pocket full of cash and asks for the MTX Jackhammer. So far I have installed 2 of them, not in the same car of course.



Instead of getting 2 18's, why not get something that isn't going to distort the sound as much, such as 2 12's and 1 10". Your sound will be more rounded and if you PM me I will give you some suggestions on which subs and amps to pick and where to get them for pretty cheap, and some that I will guarantee that will hit harder than any pair of 18's and cost around the same price.

Seriously, ask somebody like Steave Meade to go with some 12s. I had my 18s in a small ported box and 1,200 was the rms rating for each. Was far and away the loudest and best sounding setup I've ever had. I've used Digital Designs, RE, Adire, Image Dynamics, JL, Kicker...

But back on topic, check out the Fi Q18s and BTL 18s, Resonant Engineering xxx and sx 18s. If you can get last year's xxx's, those are some very very nice subs. I'm using sx 15s at the moment.

Elemental Designs has an 18" model. TC Sounds has a few models. Soundsplinter is coming out with an 18" RL-p soon.

18's, jesus. Are you looking for a quality sound or just fat, sloppy bass that people will hear down the block?

Man, that would be painful. I sat in a friend's ride with 2 9515s with about 4k watts and that was nasty. Was doing low 150s on the new Termlab.

18's are cool. I've ran two 15's sealed with 450x2 amp.. Yea it pounded for miles..
That was long time ago if i had to do over i go with 4 12's or 10's. Tighter more accurate bass

Had a CompVR 18" and a Kicker 1200.1 in a sealed enclosure. Not exactly something you wanted to turn up for daily driving. It wasn't the best sounding sub, but by far one of the loudest setups i've ever had.

I appreciate SQ more than just plain loud now. It doesn't take much to create a crazy loud system. It does take time and patience to create a quality SQ setup.

What's the point of tuning a musical sub to go much lower than 30Hz? Very very few songs every go below 30hz.

In a vehicle with cabin gain and a relatively finite working space, IMO, there isn't one.

If you want to tune lower than that, I say go sealed, vents start getting really tough to place in a car w/ super low tuning due to length involved.

about the only way to fit some 18's in a car like that with a good amount of air space would be to wall it behind the driver seat

or get one and stick it in the biggest ported box u can fit back their

18's can still hit and sound good at the same time, today the tech they have now for building subs is alot better then back in the day

im rolling around with a one off built 18 in my truck with 1800wrms, i have a 2nd one but i need to get another amp to push it, porting is the only way to go with a 18

one of the cleanest 18's i have ever used was a treo ssi 18, hit the lows and had good punch to the bass,
but like everything, the box is what makes or breaks the sound

18s are for concerts, not cars. You need 20 cubic feet per driver or you get mud.

WOW, what are you smoking? Seriously...

I am not against using 18s, the general theory all along is more voice coils make it louder (lots of 10s, like Alama Gates PPI Iasca Bronco), or using one or more 15 or 18 and this allowing the bass to sound lower because they are larger cones. It is just that you will need to remove a seat or two to house an 18 inch or two to get the right air space in a normal vehicle. Also, to control the driver you need mass amount of clean power and plenty of juice from your alternator, isolator and a 100Farad cap with multiple Optimas. I love deep, tight bass, our theater rocks. It is just that 18s are more often found to sound best at concerts and in gentlemen clubs and other dance clubs. Plus, the car, the worst acoustic envornment in this world, and an 18 is ear-damaging, but some like it that loud.

20 cubes is outrageous though. Using the RE XXX 18 as an example, it sounds great sealed, and the recommended sealed enclosure is 4 cubes. I fit 8+ cubes EASY in the trunk of my Impala. Those will still get nice and loud off 1,200 watts. You don't need a crazy eletrical system for that either.

Wow, they are doing a lot these days. That is great you can get them sounding good in such a small space.

19Ov.2 that was mentioned earlier only needs 2.5 cubes for good response in a car.
