Really should explain QAM to the beginners, like me, in this forum. What a big win!! I get HD on all networks plus several PBS channels, plus a bunch of other misc channels from my analog cable with no cable box.

Second, quit discouraging folks with stories of imperfect displays and unwatchable SD. SD quality is very good on my cable/TV combo. If you believe everything written in this forum you would just stick with your old CRT SD and wait for another 10 years to buy that new set to get that gigahertz refresh rate and billion to one contrast. This is like buying audio speakers with a frequency range of 0-200Mhz. Way beyond human perception, but beginners become convinced they can't watch/listen without it.

I think the firmware ver. 5.00.68 resolved a lot of problems. Out of the box this set had no dead pixels, no noticeable ghosting, no backlight problems or banding issues. If it lasts several years it will be an excellant value.

I was looking for a "entry level" HDTV that was relatively inexpensive, was at leat 32" and had a good picture.

HDMI allows me to connect my upscaling DVD player .

I would prefer a black cabinet rather than the silver, but this one is OK.

Multiple HDMI's instead of multiple component and composite inputs. Also a VGA connector would be nice.

Make selection of inputs using buttons on remote, instead of menu pull downs or advancing channels.

7. What was your biggest "Surprise" after you received your LCD.

The ATSC tuner was able to bring in 10 or so Digital channels over an old UHF antenna I haven't used in years. I am about 50 miles from the transmitters so this was a nice suprise! I am waiting to change my Satellite programming to HD until the DSS companies have more channels available and have worked through all the HD-DVR issues.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.

When changing channels very quickly using the remote, the TV has locked up on two ocassions. I had to remove the AC cord to reset. I am going to check the firmware and upgrade to see if this corrects this problem.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.

Still a little high, but I am pleased with the sale priced, open box, 24 months same as cash financing I received.

I like the SPDIF audio out put which allows me to run the TV tuner audio through my Bose receiver.

Great picture quality with ALL of the features I wanted. I originally got an LG 37LC2D, but was not satisfied. I really like the on-screen guide feature.

The TV Guide on-screen and built-in DVR are absolutely awesome. I no longer use my Panasonic DVD recorder, which was always a bit klunky anyway. Picture quality is great (HD and SD), and menu navigation is easy.

4. What you don't like about your LCD.
Having to change screen ratio settings depending on the show. Not always consistent. Remote-control design not the greatest..

A bigger hard drive

Selling a set with a built-in dvr and ONE tuner is a mistake. You really need two tuners, so you can watch one show while recording another. You should also include the biggest hard drive possible.

That the built-in TV guide feature is much more useful than my older "Guide+" on my RCA analog set, and despite the pickiness of several people in these forums, my lcd set's picture quality and brightness and color are amazing, period.

8. What "Problems or Issues" have you had with your LCD.
Recordings seem to cut off a minute or two early. I am still playing. This is adjustable.

9. Do you really think that todays "Prices" are worth it.
Not really, but they finally became "affordable" (sort of) for me. Got my set for about 50% of its original price.

One thing I get annoyed at is how many people do not realize that you can get *really good* television, and tons of HD content, over the airwaves. As in, broadcast television. No, you won't get ESPN, but many cities offer far more in digital tv signals than the analog counterparts. Many prime-time shows are in full HD now. *NO CABLE OR DISH REQUIRED*. Just a regular old antenna. Voila. In my city (Milwaukee, the analog stations are 4,6,10,12,18,24,36, and 58. That's 8 stations. In digital? We get: 4-1, 4-2, 6-1, 10-1, 10-2, 10-3, 10-4, 10-5, 10-6, 10-7, 12-1, 18-1, 24-1, 24-2, 55-1, 55-2, 58-1, 58-2. That's 18 stations compared to 8. Two of those are desdicated 24x7 weather. Just like cable... almost If you are considering getting a HDTV, check out "titantv.com", and see what digital content you have in your neighborhood *before* being sold a crappy dishtv deal by the BB or CC dude.

A lot of this is consumer ignorance, but a huge part of this is ALSO due to salesdudes basically "implying" that in order to get HD content, you need a cable or dish setup. I wonder how many people have thrown tons of money away because of this false impression............

and no clouding or anything reported here on AVS. (checked with
9 year old and 6 year old eyes)

There's a problem here on the first day with either scratched DVD's
out of the oppo 981, or the 100 ft cat 5 hdmi. The TV goes black
screen during movies and I have to switch inputs or turn it off and
on to clear the problem. Need to figure out if it's the TV, the cat 5,
or the oppo. Simple debug in the next few days will sort this out.
(same issues feeding oppo output to the older Sony 32" 720p)

yes. There is a wide range of prices, features, and sizes for
people to choose. Yes, I wish mine cost less, and hope it's

I plan to put it through it's paces this weekend with the superbowl
and more types of inputs. I'll figure out the black screen thing with
DVD's where scratched ones are far worse. I'll also use a VCR
for RF demod and play around with OTA and cable HD over the
next week or so.

I needed a panel format due to restrictions of placement in my new living room, so i was looking at either plasma or lcd. i use an HTPC, and have lots of windows in the room, so LCD was the choice. The Samsung had the same panel as the Sony (which is largely considered the best LCD), and was substantiall cheaper, and had a way better looking bezel (to me).

Picture Quality, "look" on wall, depth of blacks for an LCD.

the remote is utter crap. It feels cheap, and has a very narrow I/R "spray"

It's hard to go through all of your questions without going back and forth between screens because I'm just dumb. But I love the Vizio L42. I looked at it on the shelf at Sam's next to several other 42" LCD's such as Samsung and Westinghouse and Phillips. The floor guy found the remote and let me play with the Vizio. I was able to find the custom picture settings and made the TV look very similar to the other units next to it. The whites are much better than some and the black is acceptable to me. The sound fills the whole room which is 26' x 42' although it does need a subwoofer. I switch from the normal to cool temperature mode when watching an animated DVD because of the extra color saturation in the animation. The screen is so bright even in a room full of Andersen windows that I reduced it twice!

OK, I have two questions. Does anyone know how to mitigate the loud sound at power up? The sound seems to come out full blast for about half a second as the TV is warming up.

Has anyone noticed a definate and striking reduction in picture clarity and color quality when looking at the S input versus the composite input? I have a TIVO going into the composite input - could it just be the TIVO?

Don't order anything from Office Depot. Bought on a Sunday, said it would arrive Wednesday. Wednesday was told it would arrive Friday. Friday web trace showed it had been delivered. It hadn't (tracking number OD provided was bad). Was told it would be Tuesday. Arrived in good condition on Monday but the frustration and POOR customer service throughout the week kind of took the wind out of my sails. Still worth it, especially of I get the $200 rebate I just put in the mail.

I'm really impressed with how good this TV looks with both my Oppo 971H and my D* H20. The colors really pop off the screen and SD content actually looks good.

The remote control is perfection. Best I've ever owned. I love the easy to program and use favorite channels especially. You can program 16 of them and they're surprisingly easy to use to go to my favorite channels. Picture quality is stunning. Eveything I've tried to set up was easy: Easy to search channels, select the ones to skip for example. Trivially easy to set up: I was watching HD inside half an hour. I don't have cable so the built in tuner was very convenient: just plug in the antenna and you're set. No dead pixels. Freeze frame: never had that in a TV before. I love it. And the frozen pictures are surprisingly sharp and good. Color, contrast, it's all unbelievably good. I LOVE THIS SET!

4. What you don't like about your LCD.
On some standard resolution 480i digital OTA channels there's an odd line of static at the very upper edge of the screen. Not on all, but on some. Don't know if it's the TV, the antenna, the station, etc. There's an odd clicking/rattling sound sometimes during parts of HD surround sound broadcasts, again not that often but enough to convince me it's either the TV's problem or there's something sitting on a nearby surface that resonates and rattles at just the right frequency. SD content could be a little better I think. Hard to say though. Slow switching channels. Sometimes you can switch right away but often there is an annoying delay between the time you press the button until the channel changes. Sometimes I think it didn't "register" so I press again only to be sent too far.

A smarter zoom? Widescreen SD broadcasts and DVDs have black bars on both the sides and the top and bottom. Isn't there a way for the TV to make one or the other set go away without stretching/distorting the image? A way to output analog signals to my analog VHS, DVR, etc.? Wishful thinking I suppose ... I'd really like there to be some kind of immdediate feedback when you switch channels. Even if it takes awhile for the set to actually "acquire" the new channel or whatever it is that it does, it would be great if there was at least something on the screen that told you instantly that it knows you switched the channel.

The size. 37" looks a lot bigger in my bedroom than it does in the store. Still I'm very happy with the size and I'm glad I didn't get anything smaller (or larger). It was heavier than I expected. I'm surprised at the complete lack of glare. I often watch with a light right behind me and was annoyed by glare on my old CRT television. It took me awhile to even be aware that this TV had no glare at all, but when I finally realized it I was surprised and delighted.

Nothing, other than my list of things I don't like above.

Yes. Absolutely.

This is the first HD set I've owned and I'm astonished at the quality. Nothing in the stores looked as good as this. But not having owned one before or even having had a chance to watch them outside of stores I may have nothing to compare it to. I'm convinced this was the absolute perfect time for me to make the HD leap, any sooner and there wouldn't be as much HD content out there to make it worth the higher price. Plus this was one of the first 37" sets that could do full 1080p. And YES, I notice the difference even at 37" (I set about 8 feet away from the set). I can tell instantly the difference between a 1080i broadcast and 720p one. Especially for video, the difference is dramatic. Not so noticeable for film though.

- Mitsubishi LT-46231 (Diamond Series 46" 1080P LCD TV)

- Positive reviews here. Solid deal. Not overly popularized/unknown by most. The only 1080P LCD which didn't seem to have problems unlike those LCD's from Sharp (banding), Sony and Samsung (clouding and motion blurring), and Toshiba (ghosting).

- So far I'm relatively impressed with the SD feed. The HD feeds take my breath away. Perfect Color and Perfect Tint adjustment allow user adjustability of six separate spectrum colors to get the perfect color output. Much more than just your basic tint and color adjustment bar you get on other TVs. Color output is incredible when calibrated.

- Nothing yet.

- A third HDMI input and 1080P over component (up to 1080i only).

- Keep on putting out an incredible flaw-free LCD!

- How easy it was to set up and the color output when up and running.

- Yes, as they have come down substantially from a year ago at this time.

- Consider this "undiscovered" Diamond Series LCD if you're shopping for a 46" 1080P LCD. You might just find that this is the perfect LCD TV. I know, I've looked at the others (Sony, Sharp, Samsung, Toshiba) and this is second to none!

This is a great LCD. I consider myself a novice when it comes to Home Theatre...however, I am 100% satisfied with this purchase.
