The motherboard is an Asus A8N5X and the ALC850 is an on board chip claiming "8 channel codec."
My goal is highest possible quality audio via the S/PDIF port to a Denon 5800 receiver driving ESL speakers. My sources are DTS and DD DVD's, and a TV card.
For now, I seem to only be able to get 2 channel sound. The ALC volume contoller has all but the left and right fronts grayed out.
I tried loading the nvidia drivers that nvidia says is compatible with this mobo, but I get zero output on the s/pdif port with them. So, back to Realteks. I loaded drivers from Asus and from Realtek site but met the same results.
Anyone know how to get DTS/DD out the S/PDIF port? Please?
Thanks,
