New FusionHDTV Software - Page 38

The new version seems to be working well on my two XP PCs.

I also have a G35-based PC with an Intel quad core Q6600 running Vista 32. This PC has a Fusion 5 USB. As Dvico notes, the floating point error has been fixed. I don't have dual tuners on this PC, so I can't comment about the multi card access violation problem under Vista.

One more thing, it appears that 3.67.01 does not need to disable Aero when it starts. That's a nice improvement too.

On my G35, I am using the HDMI output for video and 7.1 channel LPCM at 24-bits and 96kHz. When I switch inputs at the AVR and my TV to view my other HTPC, the G35 detects the change in EDID info from my AVR and switches to 2-channel LPCM. This causes the Fusion software to crash. It causes problems for a lot of other players too, so Dvico is not alone.

It will be interesting to see how other Fusion users fare as more people start sending 6 or 8 channel audio over HDMI. The 8200/8300 boards are starting to appear, so more people will be using HDMI for audio.

For now, I am perfectly happy doing HDTV recording on my old 32-bit Athlon 3200+ PCs running XP.

Is the correct method for removing the existing files still by re-running the setup program? Or is it done through add/remove programs? I'm currently using 3.66.01 Web.exe on XP MCE.
I seem to remember a post by KAXKID, but wasn't sure if it was still applicable with the newer versions.

I appreciate the help,

I don't think Steve has updated his procedure for Vista.

In Vista, the drivers are not present in Programs and Features, like they are in Add/Remove Programs under XP. Therefore, I uninstalled 3.66.01 from the Control Panel, and then I ran the 3.66.01 install package to remove the drivers. I am not sure this is required. Maybe the Vista Fusion uninstall gets the drivers too. However, it worked fine.

I love XP, but it is going away:

If MS does not extend the deadline, I might even pick up an extra XP MCE copy.

yeah, but by the article we have some time!

But that would only happen after XP reaches its end-of-support term (when all support plans expire). The good news for you: That happens on April 8, 2014, which should be plenty of time to get the kinks worked out of Vista-or switch to a Mac, Linux, or anything else. Bottom line: Your copy of XP will work, totally legally, for at least six more years.

What about after 2014? Well, that's unclear. But it's possible XP will stop being installable at that point. Microsoft's official policy is that these dates have "no affect [sic] on how long you can use a product," which may imply product activation will work forever. However, two things come to mind:

1) Even the most die-hard XP enthusiast will probably be ready to upgrade at that point (as XP will be nearly 15 years old, and your PC will be dead by then, I'm sure).

2) Even if Microsoft shuts off product activation, the hacker community will certainly make dozens of tools to let you continue using XP with abandon. Fret not.

For some reason I was incorrectly under the impression that CFC was using Vista, but his message made it very clear that he is using XP. Sorry for the confusion.

---------------------------------------------------------------

1. With Single tuner and Vista SP1, the problem of the floating point error was fixed.
- The Multi card of the Access violation problem didn't fix yet.
We recommend you to uninstall the Vista SP1 if you have a Dual tuner.
- We'll release fixed version as soon as possible.

Guess I'll check it out

Doesn't work on my Fusion 5 USB with Vista. Switching to VMR mode and it crashes. Perhaps the next version.

I am not seeing a crash using a Fusion 5 USB with Vista 32 and 3.67.01. I am using the Unified Video Decoder with the VMR and DxVA options checked. Also, I am using Intel G35 graphics.

Call me crazy but I've built a VMCE box to replace my XP MCE one.

So a question, just how much of the latest Dvico release do I need to install in order to get my Fusion card to work within VMC?

I never could get XP MCE to recognize it. Would like to do it right this time.

Thx - Gene

Crazy fer sure, Gene...and in the wrong thread, since there's one already dedicated to Vista and Fusion (5), which would have all the subscribers with the knowledge you seek. I'm still boycotting Billy's Latest Betaware fiasco, meself.

Knew you'd agree with me.

Thanks for the pointer, I'd only followed the XP & Fusion threads so far.

Fusion 3.63.01 has started crashing with the error 2008 4 31 is invalid. No new recent changes, no updates to XP, and nothing in the scheduler with that date. I tried upgrading to 3.66 and 3.67 to see if that would help but things just got worse. No idea where it is getting this date and crashing.

I got that exact same error message last night when CSI Miami started recording. But then it recorded the show fine and dandy. I don't know WHAT to make of that..........?

I'm using 3.67 on a brand new fresh XP (with SP3 slipstreamed) install.

Thanks. At least I know it is not just me. Can't get it going at all right now.

I just got that error "2008 4 31" tonight too. Only problem is I am not able to record now. No changes at all. I have been using 3.63.01 for a long time.
Same "2008-04-31" error message here. I have v3.50.01. I tried installing 3.60.x and 3.67.01 but can't get the program to run correctly, so I downgraded back to 3.50.01.

The only channel I cannot tune to is PBS-HD and its subchannel. The program crashes.

edit: Fusion5hdtv gold, WinXP sp2, and no recent changes.
I got same crash on 3.63.01. Most times I had to restart computer as Windows XP was extremely slow terminating the process that continued to run. I was kind of fed up with that version anyway due to higher load on CPU causing more stuttering than I was used to and a skip that regularly occurred at about 1 minute intervals. Used KAXKID procedure to remove and reverted to 3.20. 3.20 generates same error message but doesn't crash all the time and when it does (usually when changing channels) crash is more benign as there is no process left running so I just have to restart program.

Edit: V3.20 crashes only when I attempt to tune to RF 31 or 56 (KDNL 30-1 ABC and KMOV 4-1 CBS in St. Louis, MO). Other available channels at RFs 43, 35, 39, 26, 14, and 47 tune with no problems.

I get the same error. The Fusion software opens, I get the error re 2008 4 31, and then Fusion closes.

This happens on both my PCs. I was using 3.67.01, so I uninstalled, tried 3.66.01, and I get the same error. I wonder if this is somehow left over from the DST change in 2007.

Since Fusion is unusable and I want to record some shows tonight, I am recording now using my HDHR and MyHD tuners. I will play around with this more on Wednesday.

I did upgrade to XP SP3, so my first thought was that it was SP3-related. However, it worked fine Sunday and Monday with SP3, and others have the error too with different versions of the software.

-Dave

Edit: Could this be related to the fact that 2008 was a leap year?

I think Dvico is on top of the problem. I just found this file dated 4/30/2008 at 10:56am:

ftp://ftp.dvico.com/Products/FusionH...FusionHDTV.exe

I dropped it into my 3.66.01 install. Fusion shows 3.68.0 at startup, and the problem is gone.

I am not recommending that anyone depend on this update until we hear more, I just wanted to point out that it looks like there will be a fix.

According to support there appears to be invalid EPG data. Yep...4/31 is not a valid date.

Here is the location I was pointed to for the new version...

Anyone using Windows Vista? Every time FusionHDTV crashes, which happens often, i get -1% signal when I restart it. I have to restart the pc to get TV signal again. Any ideas how I can get the signal back without restarting the pc? Windows XP doesn't have this problem.

I think that you already found the solution: Run WinXP on your HTPC instead of Redmond Betaware.

They sent me a patch for the invalid date. Drag it to the installed folder:

I think it might have been in response to my post to them. Q&A. If so they were incredibly fast.
Actually, I expect that the problem showed up in Korea while it was still "yesterday" here.

Patch is working for me. Thanks guys.

I just started getting this problem yesterday. I'd recorded the first two segements of PBS's Carrier series the prior two days, and, yesterday when I tried to launch Fusion HDTV, message boxes would appear and the program terminate before I could see them. I searched the Dvico directory for reciently modified files, deleted the EPG file, and was able to start Fusion HDTV on a different station. If I tried switching to PBS, the messages would immediately appear then terminate. Then I went to the Dvico site and downloaded the "latest" software and installed it - 3.67 - but, still had the problem. Overnight, it occured to me to check AVS Forum - sure enough - you guys were talking about this same problem and about fixes. I tried downloading the link above, but, my system complained that the resulting file Fusion.exe wasn't a Windows executable. I suppose there was something I didn't understand about dropping it onto the prior install. Right now, I'm downloading the 3.68 version - hope this fixes it.

I was happy to find that with the 3.67 version I was again able to schedule recordings from TitanTV. I'd not been able to do that for awhile and much prefer it to the kludgy EPG included in Fusion HDTV.

3.68 is still downloading. Don't think it is needed though. I re-downloaded the patch, dropped it on the FusionHDTV folder and the problem is gone! Much faster and easier than installing another full update. Thanks!

Responding to my own post, but to make 3.67 & 3.68 work correctly, I had to install a Fusion driver update from Windows Update. Without the update, the program was giving some invalid auth decoder error.
I've just completed a new computer build and everything seems to be working fine except - when I select the timeshift option the program locks up and I get the message: "FusionHDTV application has stopped working". I can not restart the app without exiting Windows as there is another instance of fusion still running.

Windows tells me to change my performance settings and/or install latest video driver. I have tried those as well as reinstall the app (KAXKID method), take out all other PCI cards, and put the card in different PCI slots.

Everything else runs perfectly (plays & records qam) and I've tried versions 3.63, 3.67, and 3.68. I'm thinking it may be something in my bios or the fact that I'm using SATA drives (no raid). I'm hoping someone can shed some light on this. Thanks in advance.

Ohh, I guess I should mention - I'm running Vista 64 Ultimate (saved the best for last, didn't I?).

My hardware:
Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L
Intel Q9450
4gb RAM
XFX GeForce 8800 GTS 512
WD Caviar SE 16 and Seagate SATA/300 drives
Mildly overclocked - Prime Stable
