Official MK - Miller & Kreisel Thread?!? - Page 114

Click on the image to see the original size. I took the panoramic picture with my Galaxy sIII cell phone.

Just thought I'd share. My dad built the base and the poles leading up to the M&K brackets. They look very much like the M&K stands. He and his neighbor have machine shops that they are able to perform all of that metal work.

I'm a proud M&K owner having run S150's and CS29's for a few years in a dedicated room, I was lucky enough to pick up some 2510PK's recently but there was a fault with one of the amps (now fixed) but it appears to have damaged one of the tweeters. I need a 4 ohm Z16, does anyone know where I might be able to find one?

Can a Parasound a52 power the M&K s150thx models. I know the 150's are rated up to 400 and the Parasound stops at 225 at 4 ohms so I was wondering if the sound will still be good out of the 150's with the Parasound.

Absolutely. 225 Watts should be fine unless you have a gigantic room. Even then, I would think the Parasound will suffice.

Well, it took some doing, but I just purchased the following for my HT in my apartment:

Front Main: LCR-750 THX Left and Right Speakers
Center: CTR-750 THX
Subwoofer: V-125
Rear Surr: S550-THX Left and Right Speakers
Emotiva Processor: UMC-200
Emotiva 5X200 Amp: XPA-5

Since I haven't listened to the speakers in over 10 years, I hope to be satisfied, especially with the Processor and Amp combination

I am running the MKs150 THX 5.1 package just looking at a power amp to power it.

I am stuck between the Parasound halo a51 or the Simaudio MOON Titan both are 5 channel, 400watts into 4ohms

Just some info on people that have use both or one.

thanks

The Parasounds pair really nicely with the M&Ks. My S-150PK's are powered already, but I do have two in-wall SW-150's that make the system 7.1 and I am using the two-channel version of the a51. I like it a lot.

Sim Audio titan is one awesome amp and like it better than the parasound.
any other suggestions to look at or would they be the top 3

Hi there,

My name is Sean and I am new to the forum. I'm also new to M&K Speakers. Infact I haven't owned any...yet. I'm in the process of purchasing second-hand / new for a 5.1 home cinema that I am busying putting together. I've already bought the pj, an amazing JVC DLA X70R. I was totally blown away with the picture and that was running a movie off my laptop with only PC speakers to boot!!

Anyway, I'm seriously thinking about obtaining a set of M&K S150s. I'm not sure about the sub woofer yet, but have been on ebay and trying to get a feel for what a good price is for them both new and second hand.

I recently came around this:
NEW Pair (2) of Miller & Kreisel MPS-1611P monitors. These are powered/active monitors with built in amplifiers. The cabinets and construction are superb. These are brand new, but have z11 tweeters and 4 ohm m&k woofers. I have tested theses speakers in my home studio and they sound excellent with great midrange and crystal clear high frequency sound. Add a sub to these monitors and you have premium recording and monitoring sound. There is also a tiny LED light that is missing, it is meant to shine through the tiny hole above the tweeter (when monitor is powered on). They have their accessory kits with power cord. The retail for these speakers are $1,199 per speaker ($2,398 a pair).Supplys are limited so get them before they are gone!

I have a small room for my home theatre and was thinking these might be great for my front LEFT and RIGHT. The price seems very reasonable. I can see the tweeter has a Z11 Tweeter and a 4 ohm M&K Woofer. Is this a problem? Remember I have no experience with M&K and speakers in general. The price is good but I don't want to pay money for something that has a ton of problems. Any comments or experience with such a confideration?

Cheers,

Sean.

There are many power amps that would work well for you. Audiogon has great deals. Hell an Emotiva would work just fine to be honest with you unless you're one of those guys that can hear the difference in budget gear as compared to the higher end stuff. I can tell a difference with a higher power amp vs. a lower power amp but the sound quality to my ears doesn't diminish. I can hear slight differences in preamps though. What is the price range?

I am selling my amp and they work awesome with M&K speakers. The Ada MPA-500 which is a Two piece amp, one power supply and one 5 channel module. Tons of power and Class A up to 50 watts per channel them AB. The two pieces together weigh 100 pounds and connects with a 4 gauge power cord.

Just heard the parasound gear is great for the speakers. have looked at the XPR-5 not sure how it compares to a halo a51

Hey all! Wanted to share a few pics of the DXD-12012 in my home theater. If anyone is on the fence about buying one of these, don't hesitate! The DXD-12012 mates wonderfully with the M&K speakers of old (at least with the S-150s!).

The other reviewers weren't kidding about the break in-definitely made a change for the better. After an initial reading from an SPL meter located at the "sweet spot" I measured a three decibel increase in overall output after breaking in the 12012 for a few days. My only complaint so far is the green power LED on the side. That thing can really light up a dark room! Not an issue though once some material is applied to cover the LED.

I experimented with placement of the sub in the usual spot in my home theater, with the driver facing the listener. I also tried the sub placed firing into the side wall. I prefer the former. Wall-loading yielded an increase of output of four decibels in my room, but there was a perceived loss of detail in the bass.

The 12012 comes with soft threaded plastic feet. However I am using Star Sound audio points for the feet under the subwoofer. Really can't go wrong with either. I own an Auralex GRAMMA pad, but it didn't work too well with by MX-350. I haven't tried the GRAMMA with the DXD-12012 as I'm very satisfied with the subwoofer on top of the spikes!

Feel free to ask me any questions about this beast!

How much does that behemoth weigh???

That is an awesome subwoofer; I would love to hear/feel it. You may need to place a structural engineer on standby...

The online specs/outer carton say 80.6, which is slightly lighter that the M&K MX-350 MKII it replaced. Yeah, the bass seem more tactile than the MX-350. I set the M&K to the THX BASS EQ switch, which gave me a smoother response that ANCHEONIC. The DXD-12012 ships with a default response closely matching the THX EQ on the MX-350.

How far do you have the sub from the side and back walls? Also, keep posting more about that sub.

Okay! Well, I have a less than perfect room, with no back wall. The front of my home theater covers an unused (and sealed!) gas fireplace. The fireplace extends a bit out, with a "shelf" spanning the length of the front wall. In spite of that, everything is measured and centered as equidistantly as possible.

The DXD-12012 is angled to directly face the listening position. The farthest corner of the sub is exactly 17 inches from the side wall. The closest corner of the sub is exactly 3 feet from the recessed portion of the front wall underneath the "shelf". I have most of the control dials on the DXD-12012 set to the default green dots, except the variable phase knob. That has been adjusted a little bit to add enough delay to match the main speakers.

The combination of adjusting my processors distance controls and the DXD-12012s variable phase knob have given my home theater a wonderful level of clarity due to proper impulse response alignment! Prior to using the 12012s phase knob, I had to rely solely my Lexicons internal distance controls and physically moving my M&K MX-350MKII around the room to achieve a decent impulse alignment between my main speakers and the sub.

I have so far found the DXD-12012, properly integrated into my system, has given me a greater appreciation for everything being played back. From my roommates video games, to Brahms Intermezzo Opus 116 and everything else!

I suggest everyone give Barry Obers' SOUNDOCTOR website a read. He worked with Ken Kreisel at M&K for a number of years, and has quite a bit of knowledge and anecdotes to share regarding consumer and pro sound history. His methods may not work for every setup, but his white papers can help give some clarification to many set up and calibration procedures!

Been looking into M&K speakers for my brothers basement build. Looks like he can pickup some used 750thx or s125 for under $600 for his lcr. Are these better them going with a new set of some ID speakers such as HSU?

Room is 14x25x9
